Employeers are hasseled with outrageous medical coverage (fueled by horse manure lawyers) , FICA, UC-27, WR-3o,941 Quarterlies ( passed without taxation representation) plus protection to Vinnie the pinch,Uniform fire code registration, zoning departments, exorbetent taxes, litigation lawyers and lastly employee stupidity. There is definitely a huge issue with the wages in this country. People are going into debt for 50-100k in college and making 16 an hour. I'm surrounded by college grads at my job. I'm almost done with my education. It's ridiculous.

That's partly to blame for some of the students too though. Get a degree that means something. A woman's studies degree is virtually useless in the marketplace. Engineering, accounting, nursing, those are all college career paths that provide jobs at the end of the rainbow

I made $15 an hour in college and in the summer at various jobs and that was in the late 90s. Some were shit jobs though.

But I also spent a few summers making like $7 an hour working in fast food.

She works for a tech firm making 50k a year. So she went to school for four years to make the same amount of money that my dad made in the 1980's. You don't see a problem with that?

Medical assistants make $15 an hour or so. Same with scrub techs, maybe some make $20 an hour. Not sure about dental assistants. Secretaries too. Who wants to have to use Microsoft Word?

Why bother with going to school and have responsibilities and a schedule when you can just hop from job to job in retail and fast food whenever you like? No education required, no training required, you don't need to be dependable.

They can. if they just applied themselves. Multiple scholarships and federal grants available. Just need to go to community college for one year to become a medical assistant or dental assistant.

Hell, they could even become a pharmacy tech, which I think costs around $2,000 for the three month program and make something in the ballpark.

Actually, all three of those fields will be employing mostly robots within another 2-3 decades.

No job known today will be the same 20 years from now. The days of spending 30 years in school, 30 years in a career, 20 years in comfortable retirement are long gone.

People have been saying accounting would be computer based for years. It is with bookkeeping and tax programs, but I highly doubt it can be solely done by computers. Every try has failed miserably.

Accounting also has a major misconception. It's barely about the math anymore. You have to be very people oriented and have plenty if customer service attributes. The days of accountants staying in a back room away from people is long gone.
