I think the other thing that makes me so excited about this (possibly) is we basically would be going into USC's backyard and stealing their (arguably) top commit in this highly ranked class of theirs. This dude has been a solid SC Commit since May

a much better video of him.. just ignore the err.. nickname :p

sorry I normally dont get caught up in rumors, but man I love LOI Day and week and recruiting stuff! This kids highlights on D are better IMO.
all those highlights are from the same game. The compilation highlight reel I've seen has him scoring on most every play

That guy is amazing....

Thomas reminds me a little bit of DeSean Jackson. I wonder how his hands are, and if a move to WR/KR would utilize him the best if he signs. I don't really like tiny CBs, and RB is so loaded that a small guy like Thomas may not get many touches for a few years.

Man... we have so many athletes at that position though... how are we going to find touches for all those guys? It's a problem you love to have, but it's still a problem.

The two most common comparisons I read last night for Thomas were DeSean Jackson and a little more so than Jackson was Jahvid Best... not bad company at all.

His instintcs at the DB just stood out to me for some reason. Kinda like Cliff Harris' instincts. And he weighs about the same as Cliff. At least as a high schooler, not sure what Cliff is at now.

SC has the same issue, so I wonder if Thomas sees an opportunity at WR? Dillon Baxter barely got on the field for USC last year.

Seastrunk, LMJ, Barner, Dontae Williams, Huff at times, and now Thomas? How soon until either Lache or Dontae transfer?

From what I have been reading it would seem Thomas isnt big enough to handle a huge workload.. I could see him playing both ways but mostly on Defense.

And that's why I wanted LMJ to go pro. I love having him around, but we needed those minutes for other guys I think. Start Barner and bring Seastrunk off the bench.

Still think you are crazy. Barner is not an everydown back. I see more and more of him in splitting time in the backfield and also lining up in the backfield then motioning to the slot.

My question is will the Ducks be recruiting a bruising FB and a large target Tight End for 3rd and 6 type of yardage?

I hope so!!!

Doubt it.. not much playing time for a FB in the spread, maybe a walk on or something?

Last year They got Curtis White who could be a TE, and Redshirted. This year they possibilities are Christian French, and Colt Lyerla so far unless I am missing someone.

So... how legit does Thomas coming to the Ducks seem? I can't tell from the links above (although I might have missed something; sorry).

And when is LOI signing day?

Sorry for being a n00b. :)

LOI day is the 2nd

Thomas seems to have loved his visit according to other sites and also according to those sites he switched to Oregon. If nothing else he is teetering

LOI day is always the first Wednesday in February. :) Also one of my least productive days of work all year. To top it off I'm leaving to Disneyland and Cali Wednesday night after work so I'll be extra useless at work that day

I cant say how legit him coming here is, but there sure seems to be a lot of smoke to be checked out. I hope its true. As it would def show a switching of power to the North.

Reminds me of a Michael Fletcher, Keenan Howry. Those two were fantastic.

Howry was a ruthless punt returner. I hadn't seen anyone previous, or since - take so many interference calls. He would bait the defenders into his space by being a few yards back before the punt came down, then contact would be made as he went to catch the football. Smart player.

Nice to have the option of CB, WR and special teams in a player.

Wow, that Thomas kid is fast... real fast! He'd make an amazing punt/kick off returner.

pic of him in Duck gear... now lets hope he keeps it on past wednesday :)

I don't know guys, Justin is telling everyone on DT to be wary and that nothing is official yet. Lot's of USC fans are still pretty confident that Thomas signs with them plus some are saying the true "insiders" close to Thomas are still saying USC. One recruiter said it would be the biggest recruiting coup he's seen in 8 years.

I recall a quote from Thomas this past summer that (quoting as best I can from memory) said... "I don't understand why Oregon isn't recruiting me. Everyone thinks I'm all SC but I've real interest in checking them out. I'd love to get a Duck offer."

Physically the guy he reminds me of is Redskins CB great Darrell Green. He has a top gear that only a few possess, but he's also so composed and coordinated in his movements.

From what I understand, today starts a dead period where coaches aren't allowed to contact PSAs (Potential Student Athletes... thats for you Ed ;) ). Think about the timing of his visit. He's the Trojan's prize recruit from their backyard. Dude came into Eugene without any media knowledge of his visit, totally under the radar. From the rough quote I've just relayed, obviously he's had interest in UO for a while. Maybe it's the Ducks offense, maybe it's the way they've been dominant of late, or maybe something didn't feel right about SC or staying in LA? Now having visited the other West Coast powerhouse he's got a couple of days to mull things over with his family without coaches leaning on him and giving the locals minimal input. As with all the kids, I hope he makes the best decision for himself. Wednesday should be interesting to say the least

btw, here's QB commit Jerrard Randall's Sr highlights... I'm thinking the zone read suits him

Wow. Thomas would make this class a top 5 class wouldn't it. I'm excited about this kid like I am about Lyerla.

De'AT will announce 5PM PST on signing day on ESPN ZONE

Fisher would be a good get. If somehow Simmons and or Heyward commit as well, it will be outstanding
the Ducks are supposed to be going primarily to a 3-4 next year. Ideally you want a big hog in the middle who goes 300 pounds or so and some stout DEs in the 270-280 range flanking him. Their options along their D Line include (these are the most recent weights I know of) Heimuli 315 Keliikipi 295 Ebert 285 Hart 280 Remington 280 & Turner 265. Of those 6 guys, only Turner will be a Sr. next year. I've read that Washington has put on lots of good weight and is up to 260 or so, so maybe he'll factor with this group by next fall. They also have Hanna Jordan & Anderson as speed type DEs for when they want to mix up their look and go to a 4-3, but they may have to become hybrid outside LB types to see many snaps next year. Assuming the verbals all commit tomorrow, this next class adds the already mentioned Ebert + Koa-Ka'ai, Byers & Kamp who all project well as 3-4 lineman following a redshirt year.

Now look at the Linebackers specifically for the two inside spots. Kiko Alonso & Michael Clay are the only two guys with experience. Maybe they move Kaddu there & maybe Hanna too because of lack of depth. They've got 5 verbal LB commits, but only Wallace has the bulk to project inside, he looks to play a lot from the get go. Maybe Colt needs to play inside like the guy everyone compares him too? To me Inside LB is more of a position of need then then the D Line.

While I'd love to see them add Simmons and/or Heyward, the guy who I've got my fingers crossed for to round out the club is 235 pound stud inside backer Lamar Dawson. He's played his recruitment very close to the vest but described his OV to Oregon in blown away type superlatives. If he were to sign on with UO tomorrow, I think he'd stand a better chance of starting then anyone else in this class.

Photo from today of Thomas and Snoop Dogg's son. Either he's Oregon-bound, or he is messing with both Oregon and USC for his own attention, I guess.
