Way different player. I think AA is way slimmer and will probably play with more finesse unlike Ngata's 330 pound man thrust that just bulldozed everyone.

Well Arik will be playing DE not in the interior, so yeah definitely way different players.

Update on Shaq:

@GregBiggins: For those asking if Shaq Thomson was at the Armstead presser, he's on an unofficial visit to #Washington right now

That's his second trip up there, so I think we are on the outside. I can't imagine why he would want to be the next Jake Locker (on the D instead of O), meaning the best player on a below average team. He must be very serious about UW...

I think he likes big cities and he likes Tosh.

I'd imagine that he wants to take one more look at UW before saying yes to them.

It does look good for the Dawgs there, but as a Duck fan I'm happy to have one of the two on board with a chance (even if slim) on the second.

Ed O.

So how does AA compare to Ngata?

As an offensive lineman, he might be a top five player in the nation... so he'd compare to Ngata that way.

As a defensive lineman (where he wants to play and the Ducks will have him, at least at first)? He's tall and athletic and a lesser prospect at this point.

Still, an exciting get!

Ed O.

Chip needs to call and up that offer... throw another 20 or 30k on the table.

so I had an awesome bike ride up into Marin... anything exciting happen while I was gone?

I'd imagine that he wants to feign interest one more time before crushing their program's dreams and committing to Oregon.

fify... you're welcome!

Better yet, let's play who can find the angriest post between Cal and UW fans

this was the best I could do. A post from comments section of The Seattle Times article breaking the bad news... "in other news oregon ( who armstead will also play hoops for ) just lost to oregon state in basketball to fall out of a first tie with UDUB!!! WOOF!!!"

my quick impression of reading uw & Cal forums is more one of acceptance that their sad new reality really is true after all. They get it.

I'm looking forward to the NCAA ruling on the Lyles stuff

Here's a good one... From a Cal player?

We don't need top ranked guys to make us a great team. Ranking don't mean anything. #weallwegotweallweneed

Incredible. Hands in the passing lanes on short patterns, and speed on the outside to force throws.

AA's decision is a curious one...what did or could chip sell him? It certainly wasn't Eugene (passed thru there once and for the life of me can't remember any of it).

It seems to me Oregon was a relative late comer to his recruitment, but I could be wrong. Regardless, I honestly thought ND or Cal had the best shot, but now Oregon comes in...with what??

Good facilities these days are a dime a dozen, but if you have a dump town and and even worse student body, I just don't see what chip can sell. A gimick offense that only appeals to the most desperate of NFL franchises? A defense that is just serviceable? Something just doesn't seem right with this somehow.

With all that said, I think last year with in-staters the huskies benefited because it was on an upward trajectory at the end of the season, capped with a bowl win. This year was the exact opposite. Unfortunate, but it is what it is. Holt and his legacy I think hurt this year...time to focus on the next crop.

Lmfao.. this dude can't be serious? (talking about what chip could sell to AA).. Actin like we paid AA to come to UO

For sure. Kelly has taken to heart what our biggest need was. I'm really geared up for the next few seasons.

That means I'm also really hoping we don't get probation.

He just is clueless. Arik took an OV to Oregon, and they certainly weren't "late comers".

recall all the fretting over the potential of sanctions impacting recruiting? I'm pretty sure that recruits (via parents) are checking out whats what, yet here we are continuing to upgrade. From what I'm hearing we've had a great weekend beyond AA

Hey guys check this out.

Me n my boy Arik.WHO JUST COMMITTED TO THE DUCKS! #SomeOnesWinningTheDay

The guy in that picture is 2013 DT Eddie Vanderdoes. He's going to be one of the top interior lineman in the country. Definitely a 4 star if not a 5 star. I've heard we have the inside track for him.

I just checked out his Rivals page, why isn't he ranked for Rivals. I do hope he can go to ORegon though, we would be set defensively(only issue I think would be corners but I trust in Chip's ability to handle that).

And our offense will be steam rolling over anyone, as usual. I just hope Bennett or Mariota can bring it to the table next season

Rivals hasn't started the ranking process for next years class yet. They did an article though saying who the five stars were, and Thomas Tyner was one of them. Robert Nkemdiche also has us in his list.

Here's a good list on where a lot of kids will rank next year.

2 things:

1) There is a rumor that Shaq drove to UW and is stopping in Eugene on the drive back. I HIGLHY doubt it, but if anyone hears something reliable post it. My bet is he flew. That's a terrible drive, for those of us who have done it!

2) This could be funnier, but it's not bad. I think some Cal fans are having a good time doing this. My bet is it has UW fans feeling a little more bitter!

Even a one-year bowl ban isn't a big deal, though I'll be shocked if that happens. Armstead just may be the next Julius Peppers at DE. He'll be playing next fall, no doubt about it, and he'll get to learn DE from Dion Jordan. Oregon is on the cutting edge of yet another new facet of football; the tall D-line.

If I wasn't 5-11 and 230 I'd play ay my JC at DE, but taller guys are more better for the position.

But yeah, ORegon's D will become an unmovable object come a season or 2

updated the OP to reflect most recent changes.

Man this thread has gotten long. I went through and read through the first 30 or so pages and it's crazy how the year has gone so far. After going through it the one thing that caught my attention was how many recruits we actually turned away. Kwon Alexander, Faith Ekakitie, Randy Uzoma, and Aziz Shittu (Didn't give him an offer after a visit). One of those guys (sans Uzoma) would have been the cornerstone of our entire class in year's past, crazy.

Also this quote from a story I posted a while back was interesting.
Jeremy Castro took a surprise unofficial visit to UCLA the other day, but says he is all Duck.

"Oh I'm committed to Oregon, I'm a Duck," Castro said. "I went yesterday because I have a younger brother that wanted to check it out. My older brother kind of wanted to meet the coaches too since Mora coached in the NFL. But it doesn't matter to me, I'm all Oregon."

Will Castro be taking any future visits?

"Nope, I have been telling coaches that call me not to waste their time," he said. "They have all started to back off which has been nice. I just can't wait to get up to Eugene and start helping out the team."

"I can't wait to watch the Ducks on Jan. 2 in the Rose Bowl," he said. "I'm not going but I'm not going to miss watching it. I love my team and I think they are going to win big. I think the Ducks win 38-20 over Wisconsin."
