Re: 2012 NBA Draft Prospects
Marvin Williams wasn't even a starter. Didn't show much in the way of perimeter skills. He was far from the best player on his team. One of the most overrated prospects I can remember. He isn't even that great of an athlete, which seems to be where all the hype came from.
Barnes actually produced. He can score, rebounded his position alright, and he shows some competitiveness out there which leads you to believe he'll play defense and be a good team player. Reportedly he has really good handles for his size but suffered from lack of spacing and teams packing the paint as they so often do in college. I'm not a huge fan of his but I wouldn't put him in Marvin Williams' category.
Joe Alexander was insanely overrated but I actually understood why people thought he was good. He had a great vertical leap and was very successful with his bread and butter turnaround fadeaway out of the post, which he really only shot from the left baseline. It looked cool when it went in or when he was able to get a flashy dunk. Unfortunately for him, he had no other perimeter skills to speak of at all. No other post moves. He didn't even rebound well considering his physical advantages. The excellent vertical leap was legit, but all his other athletic numbers were poor by SF standards and he was way too small and way to shitty of a rebounder to play the 4 in the NBA. NBA SFs who were just as big and could jump just as high could easily takeaway that turnaround J from 16 feet, after that he had dick and no other redeeming qualities about his game (rebounding, defense, passing, etc.).
