I thought I read somewhere that the new CBA will make buying picks much more difficult? Or maybe it was that there is a cap on how much you can pay or something....

Ya, it used to be 3 million per transaction, but now it is only 3 million per season. Portland can still pay 3 million though because they haven't used any

There is now a 3 million dollar limit per year for ALL trades. So you can buy a pick for 3 million, but can not include any cash in any future transactions for the year.

We should take advantage of it by using 3 million right after the draft lottery, and then another 3 million on draft night.
 
As for trading down, Houston has 2 picks at 14 and 16. Could always move 6 for both of those, if the value was seen as similar.

I think that's a tough one. If for some reason we get #6, which I doubt happens, I think that is more valuable than 14 and 16. However, if we still get their pick and it falls to #8, I am all for it

Yeah, I think a lot will depend on who is available at 6 and if it is someone we like. If Beal or Drummond happened to fall there, for example. If BPA is Barnes, I'd look to swap with Toronto at 8, who might like to get ahead of GS who could look at Barnes. 6 and Shawne for 8 and Ed Davis. Then move 8 for 14 and 16 to Houston. Draft at 11, 14 and 16. Also, if Marshall were to be a target, I think we have to get ahead of N.O. at 10. So maybe with 11, 14 and 16, you swap 11 and 40 to Detroit for 9. Draft at 9, 14 and 16.

I sent in my resume. Still waiting for a call back. I think they'll go through these initial candidates to make things look good.
I think at 6, Barnes is a possibility to be there, and I think GS, Toronto and Detroit could all be interested in him. I'd be looking to get the most value possible out of 6 if we can get the same player we like there at 8,9 or 10. Swap 6 to GS for 7 and 30? If they liked Barnes, can convince them that there's a great possibility you move back with Detroit or Toronto,a dn they don't get him. Swap 6 for 7 and 30. Swap with Toronto for the Davis swap mentioned.
 
This is kind of a weird draft because there most of the players with the highest ceiling are risky and will go in the middle of the first round. The year with did this with Martell was exactly why you don't trade down. When there are clear BPAs available at your pick you take them and go with it. This is not one of those years. Sign me up for RR7s deal, but I don't see them giving us Davis to move up.

The issue for guys like us would be convincing PA that this team needs to rebuild and not reload

I think you convince him you rebuild and reload at the same time. Trader Bob did that for Portland, and we never missed the playoffs.

That's what I prefer. Reload with free agency signings, and rebuild by going with maybe more high risk players in the chance of getting a star, and avoiding the low ceiling guys. Try Wroten and see if he turns into Westbrook, Perry Jones to see if he realizes his potential.

Exactly. Assuming we get the NJ pick this year, I think we're setup pretty nicely for reloading and rebuilding at once, when you consider the pieces we currently have, our cap space/flexibility, and the likely draft picks.
 
It sounds like if there are a lot of gambles this year, then more picks, the better!

I presume that a "new season" begins immediately after the NBA Finals end? Just wondering because the Warriors bought a pick to draft Jeremy Tyler and bought another second rounder from the Hawks at the deadline. I believe both cost around 1 mil each. GS has the #7, the 30, 35, and some other late 2nd and the GM already said there's no way we're carrying 4 rookies. Even 2 or 3 would be overkill on this team.

I'd have to consider this if I was GS's GM. Like I mentioned above, the team is already young but also trying to compete with Curry/Lee/Bogut/Klay and a good bench. We don't need multiple rookies and we do have a glaring hole at starting SF going forward. If they (and by they I mean Jerry West lol) like Barnes then get the fuggin pick and get your guy.

GS is usually pretty transparent come draft time. Seemed like it was months and months last year when EVERYONE was reporting how much Jerry West had a boner for Klay Thompson. Everyone knew Larry Riley was deciding between Monroe and Udoh and the couple days leading up to the draft most of the big draft insiders had somehow been sure the pick was Udoh. Wouldn't surprise me if Lacob tries to shore this up, but on the same token the reported pre-draft workouts have historically been a good indicator of who GS will draft. If they show their cards about coveting Barnes or whoever it could be to their detriment.

i believe its always been july 1st, and anything done before the new cba is likely not counted anyways

blazers could do 3 million at the draft, and another after in a trade after 7/1, but then would be out of dough for the 2013 draft
 
I've definitely cooled on Jared Sullinger -- One leg is an inch shorter than the other. The Blazers have been down this road before. No thank you.
 
The Bulls are searching for a SG -- I wonder if they'd bite on the #11 for Mirotic.

Jeremy Lamb/Austin Rivers with Derrick Rose would be an intriguing backcourt combo.

Props to the Boston Celtics for not trying to turn Avery Bradley into a PG.

He's a glue player and plays off the ball extremely well and his defensive IQ is extremely high; more than holds his own against 6'7"-6'8" SG's in the playoffs despite being 6'2"
