I swore Billy Owens was gonna' be the next Magic Johnson!

You are crazy....... he was cold in college! He had flashes of brilliance at GS.

Chad Ford is starting the PJlll bandwagon calling him this years Paul George.

For the sake of argument I won't include Melo, but who was the last Syracuse player who lived up to his billing? Here is some info on Cuse players. Since 92, those wee the players drafted from Syracuse

92' - None
93' Conrad McRay
94' None
95' Lawrence Moutan
96' John Wallace
97' None
98' None
99' None
00 ' Eton Thomas, Jason Hart
01' Damone Brown
02' None
03' Carmelo Anthony
04' None
05' Hakim Warrick
06' None
07' Demitris Nichols
08' Donte Green
09' Jonny Flynn
10' Wesley Johnson, Andy Rautins
11' None

What do you thinks the cause of this?

I don't buy into anything other than coincidence. What players outside of Derrick Coleman (who made AS games albeit) and Billy Owens were really high picks.

That said, I don't like Waiters that much. I'd rather go after Wroten with a pick that late.

"I can't wait for the real workouts to begin," said Waiters, who anticipates matching up against Jeremy Lamb, Austin Rivers and Terrence Ross once the Chicago combine is over. "I'm going to try to destroy them. I love to compete. If I have a weakness, it's that I'm too competitive. But I think once workouts come, that will be my biggest strength."

Lets see if he can back it up.

I've been on the PJ3 bandwagon for a long time, but as already mentioned, I do worry about his "motor", for lack of a better word. He has incredible physical tools, but at times he would just disappear during Baylor games. Still, with that talent, either the 6th or 11th pick is worth him, although he's the type that can keep climbing, and end up Top 3 or 4.

Jones has shown flashes of being a great mobile, perimeter big man. He is a very good ball-handler for his size and can take traditional power forwards off the dribble with relative ease. On the perimeter Jones can shoot the ball from the mid-range and extends out to the three. He is not an elite level shooter, but above average for his position.

As a rebounder defender Jones can be dominant, but plays plays with little intensity. That did not effect him or the team at the college level, but it will in the NBA. His length and athleticism will allow him to be a very good rebounder and defender in time. Once Jones adds some considerable strength the adjustment to the NBA will be there.

I see and maybe agree with that point, I was more wondering if you have any reasoning from the other side of it. Do you have any reasons as to why Syracuse players don't live up to the hype? Without causes from that point of view I don't know if I can come to the conclusion that Waiters won't be good simply because other Syracuse players weren't. Maybe that's just me.

You stay away from Syracuse players the same way you leave Florida QBs & WRs alone...some systems just don't translate.

What kind of system do they have?

Flynn looked like a solid PG prospect @ 'Cuse but in the NBA he's barely a fringe player and I'm not sure he's even that.

Looking back exactly five years ago the hype around Oden was amazing. As good as Anthony Davis is -- he's nowhere near the hype of Oden and Durant:

Oden measures 6-foot-11½ in socks and 7-1 in shoes, and he weighs around 260. His wingspan is an impressive 7-5, and his standing reach nearly 9-3. Those measurements provide the biggest reason most scouts think Oden should be the No. 1 pick. In a league devoid of big, traditional centers — Oden’s numbers add up to a perfect 10.

Everything else is supposed to be gravy.

But when St. Vincent director Ralph Reiff warned that I was in for a surprise, he wasn’t kidding.

Oden’s agility, flexibility, balance and explosiveness are remarkable for a player his size. He’s a 2 guard in a center’s body.

Clearly Oden is more than a big stiff who’s learned how to play basketball. He’s an athlete who happens to be 7 feet tall.

In the span of an hour, there wasn’t a drill point guard Mike Conley could do that Oden couldn’t do. In the strength department, we’d expect that and more. But in terms of athleticism and agility, you have to see it to believe it.

Remember that ridiculous dunk he tried against Georgetown — the one when he took off from a little inside the free-throw line? That type of play should be a staple of his NBA game…

…As the workout continues, Oden plants down low alongside Purdue’s Carl Landry and works on a number of post moves around the basket. His hands are soft. His hook shot is smooth. And most everything Oden lobs up finds its way in the basket. While he’s been working on a midrange jumper to increase his arsenal, it’s his work down on the post that is most impressive.

Yes I do, Chad

Marshall injured worse then thought...........

Kendall Marshall is nearly fully recovered from a broken wrist suffered during the NCAA tournament.

Marshall revealed that his right arm injury was more extensive than originally believed.

"My wrist is almost 100 percent," Marshall said. "What people didn’t know is that I also fractured my elbow. That’s been the toughest thing for me to deal with, still not being able to go full contact. Hopefully, I’ll be ready to go by the Combine."

Marshall is training for the draft at the IMG Basketball Academy in Florida.

Wow, what a badass

Wish we hadn't of spoiled our pick on a guard last year, we coulda rolled the Dice on Marshall

At least it's not his knee.

Still, he's BY FAR the best PG prospect in this draft.

You don't pass on Marshall because of Nolan fucking Smith. If we do ultimately go the route of S&T for Batum, I'd try to get Smith included to get him off our cap.

Marshall's injury was on his non-shooting hand. I'm not too concerned.

Next stop in the draft workout tour: Oakland to see Damian Lillard this morning along with a couple of NBA teams

Chad Ford ‏@chadfordinsider
Here's video of Terrence Ross on Friday. Looked great in 4-on-4 against Austin Daye, Rasual Butler & Arnett Moultrie

Chad Ford ‏@chadfordinsider
Lillard going through one of the hardest workouts I've ever seen. Grueling. Zero questions about what kind of shape he's in.

Chad Ford ‏@chadfordinsider
Lillard hitting just about every shot here despite being run into the ground by trainer.

Chad Ford ‏@chadfordinsider
Great workout today for @Dame_Lillard Such a hard worker, Great shooter, Good athlete. Strongly believe he's a Top 10 pick.

That interview with Terrence Ross was great. I think he'll be better than projected

Yeah I agree as well. As discussed this draft has few stars but it is deep. 5-20 is a crap shoot. There is probably about 10 guys who you could argue are on the same level. Good draft to have multiple players. Few will help next year though.

I think we should try to snag more picks honestly. I know this isn't the way that Paul wants to go, but unless we are either able to trade for a star player or sign Williams, I don't see how we're going to retool on the quick. I'd much rather try to go the route of OKC and put together a young nucleus that can grow together.

There are a few players that you can pick up late in the first round that may turn out to be solid players:

*Evan Fournier
*Moe Harkless

But if we went the rout of adding picks I'd look for another late-lotto to mid-first and snag a player who slips a bit.

Lillard is a beast! Can't wait to see who goes first between him and Marshall. Marshall's game doesn't seem like it will stand out in a 1 on 1 situation. His strength is his court vision. Wonder how this will affect him?

One reason why Brandon Roy looked rather mediocre in pre-draft workouts. He didn't stand out in these drills and one-on-one, two-on-two, etc.
