Wes really fits what they need, but not more than Beal. Maybe they're thinking that Wes+6 is better for them than Beal alone.
If Beal is as good as they say, then giving up Wes is worth it. I like the guy but in the long run he is a role player. If they think Beal is a long term starter then go for it.

I'd love to ship out Wes. He's overpaid, can't create his own offense and is a streaky 3-point shooter. I'd do the deal in a heartbeat.
Me too if we are drafting Beal or even Robinson but no way if we are trading up for Waiters.
In "asset acquisition mode" I think this is the path a franchise has to take. You have to get the guys you think will be the best assets. Matthews is a below average NBA player, so if you can deal him for a "chance" to get a really good player, you have to do that, IMO

Blazers should take a long look at Oregon State's Jared Cunningham if he's still on the board when they pick in 2nd round.
That would be a good pick IMO
That's just not true

could be they feel Charlotte will trade down, and Beal goes 2. So they figure going to 6, if we took MKG at 3, Robinson 4, maybe they think Drummond goes 5, and they can still get Barnes at 6 and a player.
Could be a good pick. I do think at 40 and 41 there are going to be a few bigs that can play in the league. This draft is sort of weak but deep IMO and the guys at 40/41 are not that much worse then the guys mid 1st.

Sounds like teams in the late first round are targeting Cunningham. The Bulls love him IIRC.

We will agree to disagree on this one. Looking at PER and offensive and defensive ratings, as well as win shares.....he's not that good, IMO
My theory is that this is a bluff to try to force the draft to fall in our favor. I don't think anyone truly believes that we'd take Waiters over Beal, so if Robinson at #2 is a given amongst the GM community, we could be floating this to get Cleveland to bite on jumping to 2, fearing that our jump to 3 would be for Beal (sidenote: if we actually DID jump to 3, I don't see how it wouldn't be for Beal) If all goes according to this plan, Cleveland jumps to 2 to secure Beal, we pull out of the trade, draft goes Davis, Beal, and then some arrangement of MKG, Barnes and Robinson our choice of Lillard or Waiters falls into our laps, just like we wanted it to...
If you think about it... Sacto and Washington should be all on-board with this scenario, so there would certainly be a lot of rumormill firepower.
Wes is an average NBA player. Paid like an above average NBA player.
That $6M is sure a lot of money![]()
