Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

pretty impressive stuff. I also had cause to reflect on the Blazers past glories, when he spoke of how management had grown to believe that winning was easy..

We just passed the 10th anniversary of Bob Whitsitt's resignation.

I'm not one to repeatedly say I Told You So forever, but would anyone listen? Hell no!!! They all said it would only take a year, and I said we'd never get back to where we had been.

And besides Wolfowitz' 2-week war, the ESPN board also argued about the Blazers.

makes you wonder if we had had a first class coach, someone who could have controlled that mob..but alas, General Patton was already dead...

It's hard to say that they didn't mesh when we made it to the WCF twice. We should have gone to the Finals and we should have beaten Indiana.

We were so close. In a way it is painful to think about, yet at this point I would gladly take a year like that again . . . it's been that bad the past decade.

Right now, 6 of the 16 playoff coaches have been fired. Several must be better than Stotts.

Some owners and GMs can turn on a dime to quickly grab a good coach. Most can't. The Jazz had an excellent coach in Frank Layden. Everyone was mystified when, 17 games into the 1988-89 season, he announced he was retiring so that his assistant Jerry Sloan could take over.

Sloan was Patton reborn...buy in or GTFO I loved the guy, built a system everyone tried to copy..yeah...

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

I assume when they say shredding of Thomas Robinson's contract they are saying trading. Because they can 't cut him until after year 2. Right?

The threat of the James Harden-led Rockets signing Howard away from L.A. is very real to the Lakers, sources said, which means the Lakers will eventually be getting a sign-and-trade pitch from Houston as well. The Rockets will have the cap space to sign Howard outright after the expected shedding of Thomas Robinson's contract, but sources say that the Rockets will certainly attempt to convince the Lakers to take in return Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin in a sign-and-trade deal for Howard, thus theoretically keeping alive the possibility that Houston could preserve its cap space to pursue Chris Paul and possibly pair Howard with Paul. It says shedding, not shredding. ;)

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

I don't really see Eric Bledsoe as a point guard in this league. I think he is going to end up being a very good 6th man do it all guard. -- @JonesOnTheNBA.

This is why I'd like Neil to make a run at him in free-agency.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

I get the whole start high theory of negotiations. But come on Danny,
2 first round picks, Jordan and Bledsoe for a 18 year old vet and a coach. Boston wants to get of both salaries. Good luck with saving 20 million dollars AND getting 4 players.

The current teams are now at an impasse in a multi-level deal that would free Rivers and trade KG, who has reportedly said he’d go with Doc. The Celtics asked for Eric Bledsoe, DeAndre Jordan and two No. 1s. The Clippers rejected it, threatening to turn away and hire one of their interviewees—Lionel Hollins, I’m told. SheridanHoops

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

anyone interested in bring back Martel Webster? he shot the hell outta the ball last yr (42% from 3) and could be a nice off the bench backup and also allow Batum to play more Sg, he's still 26-27 and plays pretty decent D I think

For the right price, I would totally be up for it. The good thing bout Webster is he can play SG/SF; instead of PG/SG combo. I would much rather have a player that can anchor the SF spot, in case Batum gets injured than if Wes gets injured. At least when Wes gets injured, you can put Batum at SG for an interm.

I guess it depends on who we draft. If we get someone like Shabazz, and if Will Barton also improves over the summer, then we need to allocate our resources to center/PG. But over all I would not mind seeing him come back for the right price.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Much rather have Webster here than Claver.

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine 3m
One proposed solution in Celtics-Clippers talks, sources say: If Clips take back Courtney Lee or Jason Terry, Boston would relent on Bledsoe

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Bill Simmons ‏@BillSimmons 12m
PS: If deal happens, I think C's will try to deal PP to a cap space team for a trade exception, then make a run at Josh Smith (sign+trade).

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Rondo and Smoove is good start for a rebuilding team.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

JSmoove is a PF in a SF body. He never really matured in terms of his offense and struggles when playing in the half court. He and Rondo would be a pretty mediocre jump shooting combo.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Rondo/ Bradley/ Green/ Smith/ Jordan

is easily a 45 + win team in the east. With a decent coach and some bench help, that can win a playoff series or two.

The only "go to" scorer is maybe Green in that bunch. I don't see them winning a series if they sneak into one of the lower seeds.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Why exactly would a cap space team take on Pierce? I can't see a team with space really wanting him at his price, he likely won't be happy because he probably wants to go play for the Clippers, and the buyout is pointless if you already have cap space, as it obviously doesn't save you any money.

The assets you'd get for taking him?

Just throwing out a guess.

I suppose. I dunno what Boston could give out. Bradley, maybe. 16th pick. Big problem is he needs to be waived by June 30th to only pay the 5 million instead of 15. So the cap spade team wouldn't be able to look at it as just, paying 5 million for Bradley, pick, whatever. They'd actually need to want Pierce. I don't see who would. Maybe Dalas, with their cap space, to make one last push with Dirk?

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Pierce needs to be waived by June 30th? Teams won't have cap space until July 1st.

Talk about a small backcourt, Bradley and Rondo. Yikes. Who is going to score? Green? Who is one of the most inconsistent players?

Defensively, they might be ok. But they'd have to win every game 68-60 pretty much.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Not sure if Memphis wants Monte, but apparently Ellis wouldn't mind going there. You never know how he will fit chemistry wise, but I think he would be a good pick up for the Grizz. They need offense badly from the sG spot and a 3 guard lineup of Ellis, TA, and Conley would be pretty versatile. They should jump on it:

Gary Woelfel: As I reported back in April, Monta Ellis planned to bolt Bucks. He has told friends he'd like to join Grizzlies Twitter
