Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

Let's get Jefferson! Who needs D, we will just outscore everybody!

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

Dalembert said he wanted to go to the Heat, didn't he?

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

And then Wesley for Gortat

Lillard
Iggy
Batum
Aldridge/Blake/Who knows?
Gortat

Not bad.

I would like to use Wes and Leonard for asik if they get Howard and that lineup is sick!

Good thing with Iggy is his ability to get to the line and playmake like batum. Having two batums and Lillard 1 and two would be a formidable lineup

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

I REALLY don't get the obsession with Dalembert. Do you know how old he is? Do you know how little time he got ON THE BUCKS?

I think the real choice is which out of Pekovic and Splitter to give an offer sheet to.

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

If we're going to obsess over big men who get no minutes on the Bucks, I say go after Ekpe Udoh. He's a no-stat all star! Kevin Pelton described him as a "defensive savant"!

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

He is a defensive savant, and could probably be had relatively cheaply.

Downside: doesn't have C size, doesn't rebound well, poor offense.

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

Isn't the point of Houston getting rid of Asik to clear room for Howard?

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

ASIK is numero uno target, not a FA but in trade if they get Dwight

Isn't the point of Houston getting rid of Asik to clear room for Howard?

I think he meant "if they have Dwight ready to sign and just need to clear cap space to do it"

My worry is that the Rockets want to appease the Lakers (and Howard, by getting him more money) and agree to a sign-and-trade, sending Asik to LA. I don't see the Lakers really agreeing to that, though - Asik isn't exactly "Hollywood", and they'll want to maximize cap space for LeBron.

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

Matthews/Freeland for Jordan? Any chance that could be enough?

What about Andray Blatche? How much will he command?

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

Blatche is a nutjob, but I'd love him as our 7th man!

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

Millsap might be a target....

Significant upgrade over Freeland, improves the bench play and has come off the bench before, if LA is traded has the ability to step in and adequately fill the starting PF role, POR has had interest in him before and indications are that UTA may not aggressively try to keep him, and he is unrestricted, so no make an offer and wait 3 days to match.

The way I look at POR needs going into FA is as follows:

1) Starting Caliber Center
2) Back-up PF that would be upgrade over Freeland
3) Veteran backup PG
4) Possible upgrade at SF\back-up SF

I see 4 open roster spots, assuming the following:

PG: Lillard, McCollum
SG: Matthews, Barton, Crabbe
SF: Batum, Claver
PF: Aldridge, Freeland
C: Leonard, Withey

There are 2 possible additions, that IMO could\not be added depending on what POR does in FA. That would be Elliot Williams and Papanikalau, Williams is the more likely of the 2 to get that 14th\15th spot

Obviously Center is the number 1 priority but the problem is the options in FA are not good: The 3 best centers on the market IMO are Bynum (UR), Pekovic (R) & Splitter (R). Although I like him when healthy, I wouldn't touch Bynum with his (likely ongoing) chronic knees issues. Pekovic is a restricted FA, 1) POR would have to offer an ungodly sum (likely their entire capspace), which I don't think he is worth, and then hope that MIN doesn't match, which given the acrimony b\t the two teams and statements by MIN that they would match, seems unlikely. Similar with SA, who would like Splitter to return, I think he might be a more possible get, b\c SA is much more pragmatic and I question whether they would match a huge offer by POR...but then again I would seriously question POR for offering a huge sum to Splitter....and they would have to wait several days to see if a MIN\SA matched meaning likely loosing out on Plan B\C options...

A wild card here could be UR FA Brandan Wright, serviceable, probably an upgrade over Leonard\Withey and could be gotten for much cheaper and with DAL trying to get Howard, if POR pounced with an offer right away (and D.Howard taking his sweet time making a decision), you may be able to steal him away, outbidding other teams is another matter....UR FA Andray Blatche could possibly be another possibility...

Possible, swing for the fences\needle mover signings would be Josh Smith, Iguodala...that would require moving Batum to SG and Wes on the bench...Smith makes more sense, but I don't see either one of those guys choosing to come for POR and the cost may be more than POR can afford....

I think POR will pick up an insurance veteran PG (minimum type guy) as insurance to McCollum playing b\u PG, not sure who though, maybe a guy like CJ Watson, AJ Price...DJ Augustin would be a shrewd move (if they could get him) as he is close to LA...

They could also try and pick up a veteran SF like a Budinger, Dunleavy or Korver...Someone capable of knocking down shots (which Claver struggled to do) coming off the bench....Budinger is restricted, but would MIN match a fairly aggressive offer when they have to resign Pekovic?

Outside of a trade option for a center, which I do think is POR 1st choice...if they have to address other roster holes via FA, their best bet may be offering $5-7 million to 2 players, rather than $9-12 to just 1 player....What would it take to get Millsap? $7-$9 million? If POR could get him at a deal around $7-8mil that could possibly leave enough space to go after a Wright\Blatche at center or a Korver\Dunleavy\Budinger at $3.5-5mil?

Then add some\a vet minimum guys (PG, C - O'Neal?) to fill in with....

I just don't see any realistic "star\signifcant upgrade" players for POR to go after with a full offer, that they could actually convince\pry away (restricted) from other teams...

Freeland is a weak link with no real b\u....Obviously starting center is a major weak link....Claver is somewhat a weak link but maybe not a priority and a veteran b\u PG is a need that should be able to be filled via vet minimum...They can ether fill 2 of those 3 holes (PF\SF\minor upgrade at C) or ATTEMPT to just fill 1 (starting center) with no assurance of success, so the best bet may be go after 2 veteran players at areas of concern to strengthen the bench...

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

Re: Millsap. Interesting. We've wanted him before, obviously. But given that we HAVE to get a shotblocking center (not expecting more than 10 mpg from Withey, tops), wouldn't that mean that we're expecting to trade Aldridge?

My bet: our first target is Splitter. Unless we tell Splitter "hold on, we'll get back to you" and try Pekovic first, because there's a timeline on RFAs. Plus we want to fuck with Minny.

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

Does Milsap really want to come off the bench?

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

boston going full out tank mode, hope they fail like they did with duncan draft and oden draft
yup what a failure it was for them to not get Oden. Instead they only got Ray Allen, KG, a title, 2 finals appearances and 5 years as legit contender. Imagine how much better it would have been had those ping pong balls just come up in their favor.

Rondo
Delonte West
Gerald Green
Al Jefferson
Greg Oden

How many titles do you think they would have won with that lineup? I'd say 10, maybe 11.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Why?

Why would they have any interest in such a middling player like Kosta Koufos?

Because he's actually pretty good? And has a much smaller contract than players like Jordan who don't actually help their teams as much?

Wow, the sarcasm is just blistering. Clearly 3RA1N1AC is on your side: he hopes they fail in tanking so Ainge is forced to get creative in trades, as that's what's best for the Celtics. And he was obviously being very generous, because the Celtics failing to get Oden opened us up to untold heartache.

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

Does Milsap really want to come off the bench?

1. He's used to it.
2. He knew he would be when we signed him last time, and still wanted to come.
3. If you read the post, I took that as a sign that Aldridge would be gone. So he wouldn't be coming off the bench.
4. Even if Aldridge was here, he might start. He's about the same as JJ Hickson last year...

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

Anyone for David West? Just to follow a tradition of making Indy overpay for its players? (Or, in Hibbert's case, pay them their true worth.)

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

All I can say is I'm just waiting to hear where Olshey is tomorrow night at 9 Pacific. I was chilling at the beach house last year, and I get on the Internet before bed, and I see we've made a play for Hibbert. Sure, in the end, we didn't get our guy. But I can't remember a time where we went out guns blazing for a FA on July 1. And to get the guy to agree to terms with us was pretty cool, even if we lost him.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Lost in that is that Presti traded his All-Star, face-of-the-franchise with two years left on his contract for a lotto pick, expiring contract (Wally World) and young starter on a rookie contract (Delonte West)...giving himself two top-5 picks in the 2007 draft. :devilwink:

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Honestly, I think almost every team should consider going into tank mode. Try to build a team that will be good in about 5 years when LeBron begins to decline. Trying to contend right now is a waste of time and energy.

That's just pathetic. Why follow sports if you have no competitive backbone?

It's not like the Heat are dominating. They should have lost game 6 and the series. If Pop wasn't a moron who sat Duncan for the final two possessions, they would have lost.

If we're replacing Aldridge, I would rather go Al Jeff. He's a better scoring option in the post. The guy put up a 21 PER last year.

Game 7 against the spurs? Should have been over at game 6. Hardly "unbeatable". Also; Indiana really have them a run for their money too.

Miami has a glaring hole at center; which is why teams with bulk can punish them.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Dude, we did our best, losing our last 13. What more do you want?
We won a whole bunch of games the first half of the season even though it was clear we were not a playoff team. Overachieving the first half of the season likely cost us Oladipo or McClemore. Either tank or don't tank. If we are going to keep LaMarcus, clearly it's a no tank. If we are going to trade him, do it before the season so he doesn't cost us five slots in the draft.
