The way I look at it is you trade Aldridge now for a couple reasons
1) He probably wants to leave
2) Avoid being a pointless .500 team
3) Keep adding to the young talent pool
4) By getting started earlier you can get a better team around Lillard to keep him here
5) Ton of young assets to trade for a better player down the road
I've been one of Aldridge's biggest supporters for years here, but right now it seems like the right play is trading him, especially if he wants out and the Blazers down have the pieces around him that will keep him here.

What, you actually think Golden State is going to give up both Barnes AND Klay? ROFL. Look at what Denver got for Melo, what Utah got for Williams, then take it down a notch. LMA isn't considered on the same tier as those players so do you honestly think we could get a package that's better than what both of them got?
In the end we're probably going to have to settle for something like Lee and Barnes. Are you okay with that? Or are you going to whine about how Olshey couldn't get the whole damn kitchen sink for a borderline all-star?

Right there is a chance to reload the roster with young talent for a guy who seems to have one foot out the door. By trading Aldridge you'll end up acquiring multiple young, talented players and increase your chances of building a good team around Lillard.

Late to the party here, but my W's had a busy day. I like their aggressiveness. Howard didn't pan out, but being considered by him is a sign that the organization isn't as looked down upon around the league. Can't stress enough how much I love the aggressiveness of ownership and the front office. So refreshing.
I've never been a huge Iggy guy, and the contract is a wee bit much for my tastes, but not outrageous. The more I think about it the better of a fit it seems like. We really needed another ballhandler, more athleticism, and better individual defenders. Between him and Klay you've got some flexibility as far as defensive assignments, which is especially important in protecting Steph. He won't be pressured to score a ton and can take what defenses give him. Seems like with his skillset there should be plenty of sets where he initiates the offense with Steph and Klay running amok off of screens. Can't argue with adding a quality player for basically nothing of immediate value. Next year's pick will likely be pretty low in the first round. Who knows for 2017. And we threw in some seconds. Lacob has purchased quite a few picks in his short time here, so that makes me feel better about it as well.
Other notes: Warriors apparently got a massive TPE from the cap dump with Utah to boot. Not sure if its Aldridge-sized though. Jack and Landry renounced, both likely gone. I assume Barnes goes to the bench where he'll get the ultimate green light.
Curry/Klay/Iggy/Lee/Bogut with Barnes and Festus off the bench...not bad.

Well after the Utah dump (lol at this name for the trade) we don't have much flexibility as far as moving future picks, and got rid of all of our expirings except Bogut. Sending Lee to PDX doesn't really make sense for you guys- so you can calm the fuck down Mags- but I think the front office will continue to explore dumping Lee for any kind of assets that they could sweeten the pot with. I don't think his trade value is as bad as people on here make it out to be. I think he could get one or two role players with short-ish mid sized contracts and maybe a red chip prospect or a heavily protected future first.
I think it could be a three way where Portland gets a couple of salary filling role players (expirings maybe), one of Barnes or Klay, Festus Ezeli, and whatever extras Lee might yield (see: heavily protected first, or a middling prospect).
If we're only talking about what GS has to offer as currently constructed, either Bogut or Lee has to be in there just for salary purposes. I suppose Bogut isn't out of the question if Lee can then be dumped perhaps for a journeyman C or maybe we can sign some crappy C off the scrap heap. I'd give one of Klay or Barnes and two of Festus, Nedovic, Draymond Green, and Ogmen Kuzmic. I'd say Festus and Nedovic are the best of that lot Nedo, Kuzmic, and Dray are supposed to play in summer league so that should help gauge where they're at. I guess you could throw Bazemore in that group too. I doubt that we're able to offer any future picks.
EDIT: Forgot to add, GS picked up a fatty TPE in the Utah deal. Not sure if its big enough to take on Aldridge but it might be more attractive to PDX to work on a deal centered around that if its possible. Players can't be combined with the TPE, but you can break a deal into separate trades. For example TPE for Aldridge and then Barnes for Pavlovic, etc.

As a Lakers fan, this loss hurts. I have never been a Dwight fan. Before he came to the Lakers, when he was on the Lakers, and definitely not know. The guy is not a championship caliber player IMO, but I'm not gonna pretend like he is some slouch though, either. I for one don't blame him for going to Houston as they've got a better future as of right now. You can't guarantee anything with the cap space we are gonna have next year, so a future of Harden + Parsons + potentially Josh Smith or Ryan Andersen looks a hell of a lot better than what the Lakers where offering. I am just glad this circus is over. I've admitted to myself that this day was coming where we'd have to move on and rebuild, and its time to accept that.
I also applaud Dwight for being big enough to walk away from an extra $30 million and a 5th year. That is very impressive. I don't like him, don't wish him success, and I do think he's on the decline of his career because of his back issues, but Houston has a nice young team there that if they surround it with the right role players, could be a championship contender.

BJM I really don't understand all the hype about Klay Thompson. I think he's a good player, I think he's a solid starter, but he's not a star in the making. He has a shitty PER, his advanced statistics aren't very impressive, and I don't see how he would be a sticking point in a trade for Aldridge. I think Barnes has a lot more potential, and I could see him making an All-Star team at some point. He's obviously not a superstar type player, but I think he could be good enough to get voted in by the coaches some day.

And the reason why I think the Blazers would do it is because they get younger, but they also stay good enough to win. Reports are that the Warriors weren't even willing to let go of Barnes in a Dwight S&T. Barnes has major potential to be an all-star caliber wing player. Klay, IMO, while good, isn't all-star level. He reminds me a bit of Kevin Martin. It seems like he can score and that is about it. Granted I haven't watched much of him though, so I could be wrong. Run, correct me if I'm wrong?
Mitch and Dwight have one more meeting tonight. Apparently Dwight is having a hard time walking away from that $30 million? Maybe he's just giving Mitch a courtesy in person good bye? Don't wanna defend a known diva and man child, but I think he was pretty sick of getting blamed and trashed for everything in LA. He played through injury all year and I think the way he perceives it Kobe will always get the credit for success and he'll always get the blame for failures.
Oh and in retrospect how shitty of a move was it to bring in D'Antoni? And then keep him through the Dwight free agency?

Martin was crazy good for Sacramento. Look at the shooting percentage compared to Thompson, the win shares, etc etc etc. Martin went on to average as much as 24.6 ppg in 08-09. I just don't see Klay Thompson being that good.

D'Antoni's hiring had Kobe/Nash written all over it. Imagine had Buss swallowed his pride and paid Phil Jackson to come back. No way Howard leaves that situation, and Phil wouldn't allow Kobe to revert back to old Kobe, which is what happened, and dominate the locker room.

I don't blame him for being sick of being blamed for everything, but if he wants to be the man of the Franchise, then he has to accept that blame. For years Kobe accepted that same blame. What I don't get is he apparently didn't wanna play second fiddle to Kobe, depending on who you ask (Stephen A. Smith was on radio saying this has nothing to do with Kobe, but everything to do with Jim Buss and MDA) how is he going to get along with Harden? I don't picture Dwight be the 1A option in Houston. Facts are that he can't really create his own offense, so he's gonna be dependent on Harden to create looks for him.
And yes, MDA is a shitty hire. I still can't believe that.

Apparently the S&T scenario was that of which Utah, essentially, got. Pretty much give them an expiring + a first rounder. Denver didn't want a fat ass contract.

Definitely agree that younger Martin was a better player. I remember thinking this guy was gonna be on the level of Kobe, Wade, etc. but he kind of peaked early. He's still a good scorer, but from what I remember about him, he isn't particularly good anywhere else.
Klay will get better, but I agree with you in thinking that he isn't a top prospect, franchise type of player.

So, you picked Martin's third year at age 23 versus Thompson's second year at age 22, but only because Thompson played more in his second year?
Would the fair thing to do is compare the same season at the same age, which is what these guys have? You can't just jump a season because Martin wasn't getting much PT (for a bad Sacto team, at that). Plus, as a starter, Martin has never even played in a playoff series, and even more odd, has only been in the playoffs twice in his career.
