The Hawks may have violated the NBA’s anti-tampering policy by mentioning Dwight Howard and Chris Paul by name in a recent letter sent to prospective ticket buyers.
Atlanta native Howard and Paul are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents July 1. As each are currently under contract, with the Lakers and Clippers respectively, a team is not allowed to speak about them publically.
The letter, obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, was on team letterhead and headlined “Hot New Player news: Chris Paul and Dwight Howard.” It began with the statement: “The buzz around our offseason is more than heating up. With massive cap space, 4 draft picks, and free agency rapidly approaching, we sit in the best position in the NBA. Player interest is skyrocketing as the possibilities of landing Chris Paul & Dwight Howard become more and more of a reality.”

We should use the money to get a starting SG like Tyreke Evans and use the draft and or minimum to find a center. We have to get creative in thinking of our starting center. Find a guy who is flying under the radar. I think Haddadi wouldn't be a bad guy to target for cheap.

OMFG. They are flat out saying they are going after another team's players. And for the purpose of marketing their season tickets no less. Of course this is a nono.

But this is the Hawks! How else are they to market their team if NOT by some other team's players?

It would be a bit ironic if the league penalized them some of those picks as punishment.

While it's possible that George will eventually re-up with the Pacers, the fact that he is not demanding a new contract from the Pacers right now is a good sign for the other teams that may be vying for his services in 2014. Rumors have indicated that the Los Angeles Lakers may be one of those teams.
Indeed, Lakers Nation noted that Mark Willard and Mychal Thompson of ESPN Radio 710 brought up this exact possibility late last month. The duo noted that Los Angeles could potentially sign George to a poison pill contract that Indiana would be unwilling or unable to match.

Of course it's the Lakers talking about stealing him away. George will very likely get the max. He can get bigger raises, and a 5th year from indy, and he can't from any other team.

That's funny, but as a Grizzlies fan, I'd still love to have Blake off the bench.

Who would you rather have as a three-point jacking PG... Jerryd Bayless or Steve Blake?

Before this season, I'd say Bayless, handsdown, but after enduring a whole season of Bayless ball, I'd get rid of him in Blake's favor in a heartbeat.

As fans that have seen both players PG your team, what's your assessment of Blake vs. Bayless?

I'd love to have Blake coming off the bench, he isn't an amazing starting PG but he can hit the three and knows how to run a team. Blake isn't a great defender and is a little slow but for a backup that isn't as big of a liability as if he was a starter. Bayless is much more athletic and is a better defender but seems to get overexcited at times and makes some god awful decisions when he is the main ball handler, he seems to be much better suited as a secondary ball handler when on the floor. Bayless can make much more explosive and exciting, can get to the rim a thousand times more easily then Blake and has the ability to create his own shot unlike Blake, but Bayless is to much of a wild card for me to ever trust him especially in crunch time. With Blake at least you'll know he will make the correct play even if it wont be the spectacular play.

As a PG off the bench, especially as a three point shooter, i'd rather have Blake.

As a starter, be it SG or PG, if there was another capable ball handler i'd rather have Bayless.

Yes it would be, because he's worth about $12 million per year if he truly runs things and isn't just an outside consultant.

The Orlando Magic currently own the No. 2 pick in the first round of the 2013 NBA draft and according to a report, they are not against the idea of moving down.
Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel tweeted Saturday morning that Orlando are thinking about dropping in the order and they have "quite a few" teams who have interest in getting into the second spot in the draft.

Most draft pundits list the top six to seven prospects in the same talent-tier so moving down four or five spots won't hurt the Magic. Of course Orlando may be willing to drop down further if a team would be willing to take one of their players like Al Harrington. The Magic will release Harrington at some point to get approximately half his salary for the next two years off their books.

Rockets want Chris Paul as well as Howard:

While the Rockets have made their intentions to pursue Dwight Howard loud and clear, one other superstar should also expect to get a call from Houston on July 1. Jonathan Fiegen of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Rockets have made detailed preparations to pursue Chris Paul in free agency. Howard has long been the presumed top target for Houston but one source familiar with the team’s plans insists that Paul is just as much in play for Houston as Howard is.
“They are targets No. 1 and 1A,” said the source.

How much cap room do the Rockets have?

James Harden: $13,668,750 (at the moment; as a designated maximum salary contract, it is to be adjusted when new max salaries are known post-moratorium)

It's not enough for a maximum contract for neither Dwight nor Chris Paul. It is close enough, however, to put them in play. And there's plenty of options here. If you were the Lakers, and Dwight wanted to walk to the Rockets (which may happen), why WOULDN'T you take back Thomas Robinson and Omer Asik in a sign-and-trade? And if you were the Rockets, why WOULDN'T you do that deal when doing so would offer up an extra $12 million to throw at someone else? Or do it the other way around - fill up the cap space with straight free agent signings, then sign and trade for the other guy. There are options here, many options, and the ultimate tinker Daryl Morey will know that. Houston's not got the Detroit-level swathes of cap room the prevailing story would have you believe, but they have enough, and they have the means to make things happen. So they're big players in the market

Meanwhile, the Blazers have $11,858,202 in cap room. If Houston wanted that cap space (or $11.63K of it) then they could trade both Asik and Lin ($16.75K) to us for Freeland and Leonard ($5.12K). That would give them $27.8K in cap room... I guess that's not enough, though.

BUT: then they can include Thomas Robinson in one sign-and-trade, and Jones and Motiejunas in another...

Except for the fact that Atlanta is one of the best places in the league for a black player to live while Portland is one of the very worst.

Maybe. But players hate playing in front half empty arenas. Portland may not be a huge destination for FA, but neither is Atlanta.
