Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Getting rid of Cousins is a combination salary and head-case dump. It wouldn't surprise me if Cousins could be had for less than Batum, just for taking on his salary. I'm not sure what else we have that they'd want, but I hope to god Olshey makes that phone call. We have a whole lot of picks to throw at them. As a total rebuild, they might find some gold there.

I doubt they'd move DMC in a pure salary dump, DMC doesn't make much to begin with

I'm sure they'll look to offload John Salmons with him. Would probabyl take Batum, Meyers and MAYBE #10 for DMC and Salmons.

That would be a massive overpayment, IMO.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

I hate answers like this from Wes

What areas does this team needs to improve at?

“We just need to be consistent...The team we had last season, we beat the best teams, we lost to some of the worst teams. It's just finding consistency, that constant belief that we can be an elite team and playing up to that standard.

we had the worst bench in the history of the league, and the worst interior defense in the league. But yes, consistency is what we need. LOL

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Then there are these from Damian, who gets it.

SLAM: What aspects of your game do you think you still need to work on?

DL: I think I need to work on my solutions in the paint, floaters, being a little more crafty. I think I could be a better passer, and individually I also need to be a better defender. I need to get better defensively. I could also have a little bit more gamesmanship, drawing fouls, you know, just stuff like that.

There will be a lot of film that I've got to go back and watch to look back through the whole season to see how I've progressed, to see some of the things that I started to do better or some of the things that I still need to get better at.

...

SLAM: What kinds of things do the Trail Blazers need to work on for the '13-14 season?

DL: As a team, the number one thing we need to get better at is defense, and it's going to start with me. Being the point guard, I defend the guy who has the ball most of the time and I'm going to be the first guy that goes into the defensive stance when he's bringing the ball up. So we need to get better defensively, we need to communicate better and I think we could have more desire to play the game. We could have more energy with the way we approach the game.

That is a man who wants everything on his shoulders. Some players shrink from that pressure--he gravitates to it.

Damn, did we get lucky in last year's draft.

This part makes me so happy to hear. It will basically round out his offensive game.

Just had a thought ... didnt Gary Payton have a decent tear drop in the lane move? If only he could perfect that move with Tony Parker.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Good lord, does Lillard have anything to dislike about him? Even the flaws in his game are turned into positives by his unabashed desire to highlight and correct them.

Payton had some decent floaters and runners, but as I recall, most of his game around the basket was spin moves and bank shots.

His self-awareness about his limitations and his willingness to accept responsibility to lead this team is awfully nice to hear. It seems he's a natural leader.

Two more sources state again DeMarcus Cousins does NOT want to be traded. After sale was approved first person Vivek called was Cousins.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Damian Lillard: We have a lot of good pieces. With me, Wes, Nic, LA and Meyers right now, and maybe JJ, I’m not sure, we have a lot of good pieces. But I think we could get another young athletic wing that can come in and score. I even think another big guy that can come and protect the paint, shot blocker, rebounder, athletic guy that can finish in the paint and dunk the ball. I think those are the type of guys that we could use next season. SLAM

Another young athletic wing.....I agree. (The big center goes without saying)
So who is that young athletic wing?

Just don't take his picture or his homies will crack you in the head!

That's just Lillard's burning desire to defend. It rubs off on the posse from time to time.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

I wonder if Masai Ujiri will make anyone on the Raptors available.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Fuck you, Mags!

Jk, welcome back.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

A Batum/Cousins deal would have to include Thornton to work under the cap.

So the Blazers would have to include the pick at a minimum.

After the honeymoon with his hot young wife, he's probably not interested, Fez.

Besides, he's probably out of the little blue pills.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Read a rumor that the Clippers are going to pursue David West. I don't understand how Clippers are a team in the running to pick up pricey FA's this summer with their salary cap situation.

Billups probably on the market . . .

Just a rumor, but here it is:

David West will be a hot commodity despite his advancing age. The Clippers are prepared to make him an offer, and according to a source, the Hawks could make him a priority, too. Should Memphis move Zach Randolph, West would be a natural fit there as well. Sporting News

Yeah that makes no sense. The clippers have other needs, PF and PG are the least of them. The other three are.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

It's still the Clippers as long as Sterling is running the team. I don't see them ever winning crap.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

It's still the Clippers as long as Sterling is running the team. I don't see them ever winning crap.

Just read an article bashing on the Clipper organization:

The decision not to extend a contract to Vinny Del Negro was an organizational decision from the top down,” Clippers vice president of basketball operations Gary Sacks said. “Our front office evaluated the season and Vinny’s three years here before making this move, and our conclusion and feeling was that we needed a change.”

“Our goal is to compete for a championship and I felt that in order for us to keep improving, we needed to make this move to help us achieve that goal,” Sacks said. “With the talent we have on our roster, it’s not our goal just to make the playoffs. It’s our goal to compete for a championship, and we need to find the right person who can lead us there.”

All of that might be true, and Del Negro wasn’t without his flaws. But if the team truly was concerned about how Paul would be perceived throughout this process, they would have said these things from the very beginning, and repeated them on a loop to any and all media outlets willing to listen.

By jumping in after the fact like this, the organization is coming from a position of weakness. Those in charge are letting it be known that they will do whatever is necessary to placate Paul to make sure he’ll re-sign with the Clippers in free agency.

That’s not the wrong thing to do, but this is the wrong way to go about it. Paul should take the way the Clippers have handled this whole thing as a sign that they still aren’t ready to compete at the level of of the elite, and look elsewhere for where he’ll spend his future.

He won’t, of course, because the Los Angeles market is too great of a place to play, and because he can get a max contract from the Clippers while playing for a team that’s relatively stocked with talent. But the organization groveling at Paul’s feet and responding to his every reported whim publicly is not the way to build a long-term, two-way relationship full of mutual respect with its cornerstone superstar.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Marc Stein: Hearing early projections given to GMs and owners in May have NBA salary cap rising to just $58.5 mil next season. This season: $58.044 mil

Some GMs were thinking it would be raised to 60+ mil. Smaller MLEs for those over the cap. less cap space than anticipated . . . things are getting tough for the GMs who don't have a spending limit.
