An Achilles tear takes forever to come back from, so I don't think Kobe is going to be much of a contributor unless he's got some bionic parts he can get from his German doctors, as for the rest of that old-assed team, I don't see how they can stay healthy enough to play the long minutes needed to be relevant.

"They gonna suck"

Did Minnesota's 2015 second-round pick come from us? If so then we sent out two second-round players (one who people think can be a star) plus 3 second-round picks plus the right to for a team to swap 2nd round picks for us.

I still like these deals but we gave up more and more each time we read about this.

I'd do that trade every day and twice on Sunday if it got us a top 5 pick every time.

If we play them opening night......want would the starting lineups be? Top 9 even?

Sent from my baller ass iPad FAMS!

The Nets have signed Kirilenko. He turned down $10M and is signed for about a third of that. Amazing pickup for the Nets. The Russian connection. Now they have a bench!

Seems like there might be some backdoor money swapping here. I bet Kirilenko doesnt lose a dime. Russian endorsements perhaps? Or could be a strait up bribe.

I was thinking maybe some kind of wink wink post-basketball career perks whether its here or in Russia.

Cause they kidnapped his children and wouldn't give them back until he signed.

#Blazers did reach agreement w/ Spurs C Tiago Splitter -- 4yrs, $36M. When became apparent SA would match, sides agreed not to go further.

We didn't want a repeat of last year. But basically did have one.

I'm guessing there is already a bank account set up somewhere in Switzerland or Russia...

Am I the only one happy this didn't happen? I'd rather have Lopez and bench help than Splitter.

Interesting! I endorse that move! So now when Hibbert plays Splitter we'll have two reasons to think what might have been.

So glad we didn't get Splitter. Dude was atrocious in the finals. Guys at 8 million per year need to play well in all of the playoffs. Not play like absolute dog shit when it matters most.

Wow, I was right. I pat myself on the back. I said that would be our first target.

I'm not sure, I like splitter more, but I also like that we have a bench, and I really do like Lopez too.

Splitter's older than LMA, though. I have a hard time buying this rumor. Why spend almost all of the cap space on a 'center' who really is better as a PF, and plays PF in San Antonio, mostly?

With Farmar and Vujacic coming back, I like their odds to win the 2008 NBA Championship.

Laugh it up all you want, but the Lakers chemistry was horrid last year and they had a terrible start...sometimes the subtraction of a player (and all the subsequent drama) can have a positive effect....not finals worthy, but making the playoffs? Yeah, I think it is possible....

Yeah - with both Howard and Bryant out of the picture (Bryant at least temporarily*) D'Antoni is free to just hand the ball to Nash and let him and Pau run the show. As long as both stay healthy-ish there's a chance they could be better than they were last season even if their roster appears worse. It was pretty clear that D'Antoni didn't know what the hell to do with Kobe/Howard.

*When Kobe went down I thought they were saying he'd miss the entire 13/14 season. But now it sounds like he could come back after only missing a couple months? If Nash/Pau get the team rolling w/o Kobe, and then he can step in and space the floor that could actually be fairly dangerous.

We've seen this movie before; Allen tried to do the same thing about a decade past. The Nets have some great names, but it remains to be seen how those pieces fit together and what the older guys like Pierce and Garnett have left in the tank.

So what you're saying is that names don't win games, teams win games...

No, I'm saying that you can usually only load so much talent onto a roster until you reach a point of diminishing marginal utility -- you can only have 5 guys on the court at once.
