Hampton's Offer Sheet includes Akron, Idaho, New Mexico, Texas St, and UNLV. At his size I think the offer list is most telling. Not meaning to bash the kid, He's a million times better than I ever could be

My guess is grades or Test Scores

Is there any chance we've not mentioned Alfonso Hampton so no other team will scoop him once we have, or is this kid got some off the field issues that are glaring? His film makes me think Warren Sapp at 6'5......

You'd think a 6'5 Warren Sapp would have schools beating down his door. He's playing at a JC in California, yet according to rivals not one PAC 12 school has offered. I don't know anything specific, just connecting the dots as best I can.

my name is STUMP? Lack of reading comprehension is yet again blasting me for something I didn't say (that Oregon's D dominated in the BCS game). Clearly I'm not against adding traditional sized NTs as Targus also berated me over, as I've expressed hopes for adding several of them many times now. My point to Zalsa was that a superior talent might come in a non-traditional package (as evidenced by Bair & Fairly among others) and basically we've little choice but to trust our coaches and their proven track record of spotting diamonds in the rough. It's pretty clear that Targus has personal issues with me as this sort of nonsense is happening daily

Hopefully that helps clarify

STOMP

LOL! I missed the Stump. Not sure if that counts as a personal insult but I can see where it could spin ya up.

We really do need size on the DL. You can see it in who staff are going after. We may need immediate help and some size to shore up the DL because of who we are losing.

Fairley had a nice Scout outing and reported with more weight than you posted. He then went to a CC and ended up at 6'5, 295# heading to Auburn with 3 years to play at Auburn. What our staff would do to land a 300# DT in this class who was the "typical" DT...much like Fairley in his first year at Auburn.

"me as this sort of nonsense is happening daily"

Prior to last night, I had not posted in several days. Please, for the love of all that is Duck football, cease the drama and lies. In fact, I had not posted for five days and my last post was about Nick A. Please. It's OK. No one is out to get you.

You posted in this thread Yesterday 07:12 PM.

And prior to that...Yes, I am aware this was posted yesterday. No. This is NOT happening daily, lol.

You didn't post on the 20th.

But you did post on the 19th, 18th, 17th, 16th, (didn't post on the 15th,) 14th, 13th, 12th, I could go on but I'll stop here.

Anyway, I don't really care. I'm just asking that from now on everyone needs to stop with the personal insults. No where have I or did I single you out.

I didn't read the post prior to the edit, but thanks SPD

Fairley had a nice Scout outing and reported with more weight than you posted.

the size I relayed wasn't my opinion, it was his HS Scout profile

He then went to a CC and ended up at 6'5, 295# heading to Auburn with 3 years to play at Auburn. What our staff would do to land a 300# DT in this class who was the "typical" DT...much like Fairley in his first year at Auburn.

right, I've been talking about the physical transformation that many HS guys go through as they become adults and NF is a perfect example of that. Btw, by the time he declared early for the draft he'd lost an inch and 4 lbs.

Jalen Jelks Senior year HS profile has him at 245#, but he projects to be a big boy on the inside by the time he's 19-20. The guy I was talking about (Canty) when you started the nonsense about me not valuing size is listed 6'8 270... thats pretty huge for a HS kid IMO. How many HS kids get 22 sacks in a season, let alone in their first year of football? This speaks to whats more important then raw size (again IMO)... raw talent. Imagine what the Duck coaches could do with that, especially since he seems to have both raw talent and size...

It doesn't say Lealao has decommitted from Stanford yet :X

Yeah rivals doesn't immediately flip things, but like so many young athletes these days he did it via twitter. He's been retweeting come to our school stuff from followers from various schools including Oregon.... we'll see.

https://twitter.com/NEE_FEE_ZEE

So far, I would be content with landing Trey L and Lealao, along with that Fresno St. commit Jalen whoishisname

content??? Added to Jelks Mondeaux & Talia, that would be ridiculous

Oh snap I forgot bout Talia, Jenks, and Mondeuax on playing DE(I've been visiting 247 too many times :X)

Good lord that would actually be a solid D front, with Trey L as the Nose. He can redshirt as Balducci continues to play. Who else is playing NT behind him? Would Lealao play NT or is he too tall?

Vandy does worry me in regards to competing for him. Mason will shoot for the SEC+Academics angle

Armstead and Buckner both lined up at NT for snaps last season. So did Bair... Sam Kamp could too if he adds some pounds. So to answer your question on whether Lealao is too tall to play NT, 3 guys who played it last year are taller then him.

My problem with to tall NG's and DT's is they lose leverage out of the block, often they have their length used against them by savvy O line players who pull well, especially in a 2 gap scheme. Length and speed on the DE positions from guys like AA and Buckner makes more sense to me. I'd prefer my DT and NG's to be 6'2-6'4 300 area to get under the O line pads and create holes for my LB's to run through. We could only be so lucky as to find a DT like Warren Sapp that can not only get the leverage on the line but also be able to penetrate into the backfield on their own. These are truly rare finds. I always like to look at the motor assessments on DT and NG's. That said Trey and Poona are very intriguing. Both have very good motor skills and get into the backfields. Poona seems a bit more nasty which is GOOD but both would be good leverage guys that can punch nice holes across the line and disrupt, which will make our LB's jobs now attacking vs reacting like we saw last season.

On a side note, have you guys seen Glen Ihenacho's highlight reel out of Serra? This kid hits with bad intention, I see some Ronnie Lott in this kid! He and Springs and Seisay could be lethal in the secondary for years to come. NICE!!

What's the word on this 6'3 300 pound DT who's personal friends with Ngata saying he'll commit to Oregon if they give him an offer?

I'm scared of losing Trey L to LSU. LSU not only is closer, but with Ego and Johnson gone they need some beef up front and say that he could True Frosh and go up against the best SEC competition.

We always lose out on top DTs. Just look at Suh. Last great NT was Ngata.

Nick Gates commits to Nebraska. Why he is going to be under Pellini of all people is beyond me. I thought UCLA, Ducks, and TAMU had the best shot at grabbing him!

Haloti Ngata is 6'5, Lealao 6'6. In your previous Ghost Pepper incarnation you said that that anyone under 6'5 is tooo short to play on the Dline. Now you're quibbling over an inch? Your map seems to be a moving target

STOMP

Ngata is listed at 6'4, and with most athletes in football that's a generous spot. I think your DE's can be above 6'5 but I don't feel DT's should be power forward size in height and weight, they lose their leverage on the line.

As for this Ghost Pepper you keep referring to it seems you're the only one trying to recreate that negative dynamic here. Perhaps you should just let go, the Ghost seems to have moved on!

I love tall DE's. The wingspan helps in so many areas, including playing the sideline or deflecting/knocking down passes and coming off the edge to strip. I'm with Quack...I'd prefer a slightly shorter DT. Igor was an exception because he was just so damn strong. Suh 6'4", Will Sutton 6'1", Geno Atkins 6'1", Melton 6'3", Vince Wilfork 6'2", Mike Martin 6'1", Marcell Dareus 6'3", Kyle Williams 6;1",

Regarding Ngata - Baltimore's website lists him at 6'4" as does ESPN, Scout and NFL.

Lealao is listed at 6'5" according to 247, Scout, Max Prep, Bleacher and others.

I don't know much about him other then what it says on his profile, but he doesn't seem very athletic in his highlight tape.

True. You don't know much about him. As has been discussed in detail by 247, Scout, Rivals, SI, Fishduck, etc. we need size and we need power. According to IslandPreps.com:

Ratu is a power house kid who was born to play between the
tackles....man this kid
is projecting nicely as a DT or NT in either a 3 or 4 man front.
Good speed and above average strength! Ratu Mafileo

247 reports he is 100% Oregon. This is the most excellent news.

Folks, I would rather link and tell you what websites are revealing vs stating, "I'm hearing" in a post. I know you get that.

I see the size strawman is still alive and well in your head... you're even starting threads about it! Thats just awesome news for the board

I said Ratu didn't look very athletic in his highlight tape to me. In those stats you relayed, for some reason they dropped off the tenths, so who knows where in the 5 second range he fell on the 40 yard dash, but the 18" vert speaks to what I'm saying. Heck at The Opening this year, not one of the big boys at there had less then 20" and that includes 370lb Damien Mama. I only suspect this to be the case with Ratu, but D1 size without D1 athleticism isn't something the Ducks desperately need. Conversely, a D1 athlete with the frame but not current D1 size in HS is something the Ducks do need. Over the years they've regularly pursued that sort of prospect and then developed them to be solid contributors to the program.

In your opinion, why don't 247, Scout, Rivals & ESPN have a personal profile page for this great player you're trumpeting? All had personal profile pages the year before on his former HS teammate Clemson Freshman Dlineman Scott Pagano... there must be a reason. Do his grades suck? Maybe he's an unlikeable hothead? Perhaps he's a late bloomer. Or maybe I'm onto something with the talent thingy... broken clock is right twice a day and all. Of course you know the real reason because along with monitoring all the Duck chatsites, there's those close connections with rich donors you boast of that we all believe. Did coach Greatwood visit him when he did his island swing last weekend?

Folks, I would rather link and tell you what websites are revealing vs stating, "I'm hearing" in a post. I know you get that.

folks... This ongoing battle with common speaking terms is entirely necessary and worthy of your freetime. You are our champion!

DLineman Jalen Canty is to announce today. There have been rumors of academic issues and he hasn't visited Eugene, so this isn't looking likely

And we lost out on D prospects again. And people have Lealao going to that shanty-town of Cal! What for? Their record was terrible.

Trey had nice size and weight for a DT and it's to bad he felt Eugene to boring for his night life needs. I thought he was looking for a place to make an instant impact and play for a top 10 team? When he's sitting 3 deep on the depth chart at LSU he'll have tons of time to see who's following him or not on twitter. I want a DT who realizes if he brings a good work ethic, we have an immediate need for him at Oregon. When you're in high school and you're good and Trey is a three star not a five, you hit college and reality punches you hard in a hurry. Tyner found out super fast he's not playing for Aloha anymore! I think we've all seen the D lines for LSU, most of these guys look like 30 year old men. Trey I'm afraid will find this out in a hurry. He may kick himself for picking nightlife and twitter over national championships and the best facilities in the country. But that's youth!

2014 DT recruiting class is not a strong one but next year, WATCH OUT! Check out Daron Payne in the 15 class and he's just one of 5 or 6 in the top 20. There weren't 7 in the top 100 in the 14 class.

We'll just have to coach them up till next year is my thought!

With us seemingly missing on Trey we've offered JC DT Rika Levi. We seem to be missing and swinging so late now. We'll get gambles to fill out the class this year like Hobbs and Benoit last year. Allen to a degree but we were at least involved somewhat for awhile with him.
