that is your opinion and just seems to highlight a misunderstanding on the OV sanctions on your part. They took oregon's average which was several below the required and made that a baselin, and then they knocked off a good bit off of that.

I would be shocked if we didn't use all the OV simply because of how few we have.

yes it is my opinion, as I clearly noted. Heres some number crunching facts which I base that opinion on. The past 5 years they've averaged using 41 visits per cycle, the sanctions limit them to 37. The past 5 seasons they've averaged having 14 verbal commits at this stage of the year while of course right now they sit at 17. While in 2010 & 2011 they signed 23 kids, their past 3 classes since have been trending smaller (average 20) largely because their players have been excelling academically & haven't been dropping out. As they've ascended in the rankings, they've had more of their pick of the recruiting litter and high character/GPA has been a focus. Because of a low rate of attrition plus looking at the graduating Senior list/likely early NFL draft kids, I expect this class to be similar in size. In past years quite often their commits post December 12th have come from kids who have already visited and I expect that to be the case this year as well. Predicting the future by analyzing the past is a tried and true technique.

So if their history is any indication of whats to come, some of those remaining 3-4 spots are likely to be filled by guys who've already visited... I'll guess that they land 2 kids who've already visited. That leaves 2 spots (or so) to be filled by the 10 OVs they have left... and again, they've a 2 to 1 OVs to commitments ratio over the past 5 years. Obviously the staff is aware of the issues the sanctions cause and have proactively addressed them leaving them sitting pretty this cycle. There is anything but a misunderstanding about the OV sanctions on my part in forming this opinion, but feel free continuing to complain away about "wasted visits"

that makes for a nice/feel good story. Of course Haloti Ngata was originally committed to the BYU Cougars. DAT was originally committed to USC... the same Trojans who Marcus Mariota grew up rooting and dreaming of playing for. LaMichael James was going to be a TCU Horn Frog until he visited and the coaches called him LaMarcus the entire time

Stidham was told by Tech that there was a large chance he would redshirt next year, he felt the QB position was just going to be given to him. So he bolted! Think Mahalak who spent the whole year learning the system is more prepared to run this offense, or Stidham a kid who's never seen our playbook nor adjusted to how our practices, philosophies and offense are run?

The feel good Stomp to your always cheerful disposition is Marcus committed to the Ducks and never decommitted and so did Royce and Nelson and Crosby and Mahalak and now Waller, "who only wanted an offer from us and had to wait!" You think these guys excitement to their commitment here will translate on the field? Well with Waller and Mahalak it's already translated into recruits they've help to bring in before they've even seen the field. So Marcus just won the Heisman, Royce Pac 12 freshman of the year, Nelson has become our new DAT, and Crosby has been starting and protecting Marcus all year!

Wanting to be a Duck not defaulting to one seems to really matter wouldn't ya say?

As for Ngata he was and is a Mormon from Salt Lake, you think his religion might take a little precedence in his football decision for BYU? Marcus grew up rooting for USC but wasn't offered so that argument is sort of moot huh? Only Oregon and Memphis offered him a scholarship. Good thing we did!

Ya know for someone who doesn't put stock into stars Stomp, you sure seem to care about this Stidham's particular constellation by your quick witted response!

I was merely pointing out that many of the all time Duck greats (like Marcus, LMJ, DAT & Haloti) don't fit the narrow blinders you were trying to put on recruiting, but it seems from the above ridiculousness you're extremely pent up with the BS today. Guess you somehow missed the previous post I made that Stidham just visited Baylor prior to decommitting? Reports are he's been there both of the last two weekends so it seems unlikely he's considering Oregon. Since I can't recall ever posting about wanting JS to become a Duck, where in the world did you pull your latest silly rant from? Get a grip dude, this is par for the course in recruiting & I'm just following the twists and turns of it. But just to name a few more recent examples of guys who flipped from another school to the Ducks...Austin Maloata, Braden Eggert, Jimmy Swain, Cameron Hunt, Torrodney Prevot, Arik Amstead, Braylon Addison, Josh Huff, and hopefully from this cycle Rex Manu. Those who don't fit your narrow "always wanted to be a Duck" statement that I was responding to make up a much bigger/nearly all inclusive list

what I put the most stock in is the coaches as I think they've proven themselves to be pretty astute judges of talent, character and whats good for the team. Guess which QB was the very first one they offered this cycle? If JS decides he'd like to become a Duck and the coaches still want him, then I'd have no problem rooting for him. But thats true of every kid who ever considered going elsewhere but ultimately accepted a scholarship to UO. Mahalak & Waller both knew that stiff competition was part of the deal they signed up for... I've no problem adding another arm to the mix if thats what the coaches feel is best. Yet again you seem to be saying you know better then them.

nope. Most of the roster is filled with kids who didn't focus only on the Ducks growing up and during their recruitment. Those that did make a nice feel good story that as an alum I appreciate, but what really matters is where a prospect ultimately choses and what they go on to do with that opportunity.

That wasn't my point, mine was those who committed here that I've mentioned above didn't decommit like Stidham is doing now with Tech.

I think this kid is showing he's not willing to compete and is looking for the easy road to instant starting as being reported, sure glad Marcus thought it was important to compete and did!

Didn't forget him, just think he's out of position. Would love to see them cart him in on short yardage FB plays like Stanford does on Jumbo! Imagine trying to bring that bowling ball down with a 3 and 1? HAHAHA!

Reports are Jarrett's parents moved out of the state but he wanted to stay at his HS for his Senior year. He's been living since with a guy who has Baylor connections and now surprise surprise he seems to be leaning towards becoming a Bear. The not willing to compete stuff is just bitter TT fans whining.

As for Stidham the coaches told him he would likely redshirt, this has nothing to do with the fans. The TT podcast talked about it.

On the recruiting tip, I wonder why more LB's aren't flocking here? With our defensive scheme if they're good, they'd get to make a ton of plays.

I see Walker, Mattingly, Coleman, Prevot and Swain being rotation guys next year. Walker and Coleman will both be seniors next year. We've got room to add some quality players for sure.

Try thinking about it instead of just believing everything you hear. Does it make any sense that their coaches would tell a prized recruit that he wouldn't be getting the opportunity to compete for a job and will probably redshirt? They would have to be complete idiots to say a something like that. Until a prospect signs, coaches are in sales mode trying to keep their customer interested, so right off this doesn't pass the smell test. What would be their motivation relaying something that makes them look like idiots? Add to that the fact that by NCAA rules coaches are forbidden to talk about individual recruits to media lets us know that this stinker didn't come from them. Did I miss the tweet where Stidham told us that he's afraid of competition and wants to be handed a starting spot? Did one of his close family members or HS coach tell us this? Nope, it appeared without any quotes attached coming from the local media and their spurned fans.

On LBs and the lack of recruiting action there, I'm guessing the coaches must have a pretty good feeling about the Duck prospects of the guys they've already had in or they'd be scheduling others in for OVs. They're losing 2 Seniors from the rotation this year and 4 following next. The coaches seem consistently proactive in restocking the cupboards so it doesn't make much sense that they'd just be crossing their fingers hoping. Maybe they've a silent or two? Or maybe they are talking to others about coming in and those kids haven't relayed Oregon's interest in them to the world? We'll find out in the coming month and a half

You know all these recruits who have been told that Oregon is in the dumpster once Marcus leaves are going to be miffed if Marcus comes back, or MM II turns out to be a rock star. I think it's masterful that our coaching staff hasn't mentioned Morgan much this year and then he just walks out and crushes it. He's had a great tutor for a year I think we can all agree. With the talent that kid has surrounding him next year, it's hard to think his numbers wont be NICE!
 
Waller now EE, so better QB competition. Bo news on Durant. Doherty deciding between oregon missouri next week.

So, what do on defensive side of the ball? Also, Daylon Mack de commits from TAMU and Murray posted a tweet of. Duck helmet and then deleted it. Plus his dad isn't a Sumlin fan.
 
Made the mistake of looking at the ESPN rankings. Alabama, FSU, and tOSU all rode their top 4 finish into a top 5 recruiting class. Ducks are 19th.

WTF does it take?

Well it doesn't help that Oregon doesn't produce many 4 or 5 star athletes. We just don't have the same kind of local recruiting crop that the south or the midwest produces. Florida produces so many great athletes. They could pretty much exclusively recruit in-state and have a really good team. That's what Miami did forever.
