Well starting in about 3 weeks, (hopefully) we will have 4 months to audition Henderson up close. He will start out rusty, but by the all star break we should have a pretty good idea of what he can do. With a new 3 year contract he would be 28, 29, 30.

During the summer I was open to getting DeRozan because I like the way he scores in the paint. He jumps over people. But I admit I am being overly influenced by one game in which we had no answer for him. Obviously by looking at his stats he didn't do it very often.

I agree with the Hendo comparison. If Gerald plays well he will be offered at least 10-12 per with the new cap, but that will be far less than DeRozan. Anxious to see what we already have.

If he leaves Toronto seems like a good candidate for the Lakers, Knicks, Nets. Those teams won't contend regardless and won't get the MVP free agents but need someone to sell tickets.
Derozan is from Cali. IF we wanted him, I see us possibly getting a meeting and I feel Olshey can sell with the best of them.

But I think the Lakers will be the favorites

We don't sign any of them if we don't trade for a star. Only one we could plug into a rebuild is Montiejunas, but we are already stacked with bigs.

I wouldn't consider Hendo at $10+ mil per season. Athletic wings age very poorly as they approach age 30. Think of Gerald Wallace.

I would certainly consider resigning him at a cheaper price depending on how he plays this year.

Players ballin out who fit with the core:

Ryan Anderson
Festus Ezeli
Evan Fournier
Allen Crabbe (!!!)

My lord this FA class SUCKS.

Ryan Anderson would be perfect for Terry Stotts

It would be SO hilarious if they turned around and signed Nico.

And to be quite frank? I think Nico would be open to the idea.

I'd take him back in a hurry.

*duck again*

Think about it. Lose him for a year, and gain a former lotto pick in Vonleh in the process. Solid move, tbh

Just watch, you sign him to a max deal and then he sucks balls for the next five years.

ehh, 4. that fifth will be a contract year like this one...

We had what.. 7 years of Batum? People actually want him back??????????????????

No more Batum. He's having a great year because he's in a contract year. We've been down this road before. We know what Nic brings to the table, and it's great, it really is. Problem being, we don't get production on a consistent basis.

This hits the nail right on the head. As Yuyuza and Nate stated above, it's a crappy year to have cap space because most everyone else has it too. So we start digging for hidden gold and winkling out the nuggets while the other teams are chasing the elusive mother lode. Kind of like we did this past summer. I like the route we've taken so far and I hope we stay the course until all the dust settles from the free agent feeding frenzy that's going to be fueled by the new TV contract. I think there will be a lot of losers in that process, whether the other teams sign marquee free agents or not. I don't want us to be one of them. Better to find and develope potential than to wind up empty handed, or worse, handcuffed by signing fool's gold in free agency.
This^

When you think about signing Batum...go watch the playoff series against Memphis, take a nap and get back to me.

Bad Nic > Any Aminu

Also, 13/14 wasn't a contract year.

I've always liked aggressive Batum.

The last three years in Portland we got watered down Batum.

Like the Afflalo deal, this trade is starting look look horrific.

The season before last he was terrific. And even last season he was better than Aminu (and Barnes...who some people want to give a max contract to). Peoples expectations for him were just way out of whack.

I'd only take Batum back if we played him at sg this time.

Delly has to be on the list.

He brings a defensive intensity that you will never see from any guard on our roster.

He wouldn't have stayed here.... and he won't stay in Charlotte. There will be a SHIT TON of teams with cap space this summer. He's going to get maxed by someone in a bigger market.

He will sign with the piss and gold and people will still be like Zomg I still love you batum

So far the only thing Aminu does better than Bad Nic is rebound. I'm not one for "advanced" stats, but even those go in Bad Nic's favor.

Stats Schmats. Batum was the poster child for inconsistent effort, and half the time seemed too tired to play.
We all know what we see, and body language does not lie.

Just imagine: Roy goes down and Batum steps up and plays the way he has this season. He had the talent. He had an opportunity to be the hero. Same thing when Wes went down. He made a choice - and the fans/team should never forget that.
