I see what @JDC is saying on that play. The initial contest was strong, but after forcing the shooter off the line, he didn't take responsibility for Welsh on the switch, really never even looked at him. He continued ball-watching instead of guarding his man. Right here: he should be boxing out for the rebound rather that attempting an impossible shot block.My issue is your example. It was in transition and if he doesn't help out on someone' else's man, UCLA get the open 3 pt shot. He made a smart instinctive play by picking up the open man, and then recovered to get back to his position. What exactly did you want him to do on this play?

If Welsh has any athleticism at all, that becomes a tip dunk follow. I haven't watched a ton of Duck ball, so I can't give an informed opinion as to whether or not this is indicative of how he usually plays, but I can understand how what's shown in that clip is not necessarily great team defense.
