I'm curious about something. Pretty much every mock I have seen has Samanic rated higher than Bazley, but likely to be available at 25. Why do so many folks here rate Bazley higher? They are both long-term projects with (theoretical) high upsides - but at least Samanic has shown he can compete against high level competition.

Nothing against Samanic. I think he'd be a very good pick and is getting underrated, too. I just see so much upside in Bazley's overall game.

To me, the Euro thing makes Samanic more ready to play making him stand out at events like the combine. He's definitely someone we should consider at 25.

I always come back to what strategy you want to implore at the end of the 1st round. Bazley has the skill set to be a superstar if he ever develops. If you hit on a player like that without having to use a lottery pick it could greatly impact our trajectory to both competing for a title while we still have Dame and building a competitive team after Dame starts to wind down his career with guys like Simons, Collins, and Bazley. Of course Bazley is more likely to be a huge bust too who just looks good in workouts.

Samanic's best case is a solid double that mayyyyyyyyybe gets stretched out to a triple if everything goes perfectly. I'd put him in the Olshey bargain value category.

So what would you rather do?

Swing for the fences knowing if you make contact it's going over the fence but you could strike out or just put the ball in play so you don't get out?

And is there really such a thing as a huge bust at 25?

Sitting at JFK waiting to fly home and this kid sits down across from me. He was wearing some NBA Draft combined gear. Said he was good friends with our very owns Anfernee Simons. Wished him luck in the draft and said I might see him in Vegas this summer. Looked him up curious to see his story..... OUCH

Depends on how you define "bust." Crabbe was a 2nd rounder, but I still consider him a bust because he fell so short of the player he could have been.

Yes, because look at the Swanigan pick a couple years ago. I guess it matters somewhat if good players were picked after him.

To me, a "bust" clearly means a player who didn't meet expectations. That is different than a bad pick. Anthony Bennett was a bad pick. Andrew Wiggins is a bust (so far).
I had no expectation for Swanigan. So for me he could not be a bust.
If it was widely acknowledged that Swanigan was a reach at 25, then I would say he was a bad pick. But you can't play that game in hindsight.
So I would ask, what were your expectations for Swanigan? Or was he a bad pick?

I actually liked Swanigan in college but that draft was super deep. So to me he didn't live up to expectations and he was a bad pick.

I do like Skal a lot though, so at least Olshey saved it possibly.

Maybe the future of the Blazers is to take one of Shaq’s Boys

Well with the Lakers getting AD, if we don’t move the pick we will need to grab more length.

If you draft 5 rookies with low picks at least 2 will never be ready to contribute.
Yet you don't think they would trade one of their picks? They absolutely would for a pick next year to kick the can down the road so to speak.

The only guy I think we've worked out that seems to slot around 25 is KZ. I wouldn't hate that pick; it makes a decent amount of sense. There are other guys that should be available that I like a lot more.

Doesn't mean anything, really, but I get the vibe we won't be using the 25th pick for ourselves if we do use it at all.

Sounds like my kind of guy: "In September 2016, Huell was arrested after breaking into his girlfriend's dorm room at Florida International University. According to police, he forcefully dragged a male visitor out of the room, leaving him with scratches on his chest.[1] Despite the assault charge, Huell did not miss any playing time for the Hurricanes.["

Either we trading our 1 or olshey already have there target on someone that he didn't bring in. Maybe he already got trade one of his expiring contract. Now a team that I am thinking of is the kings that don't have a 1st but have 3 second or Atlanta.
