Media Day is up on us. I'm wondering...

- How many times will media members (*highkin*) try to go viral with a gotcha question to Dame/Billups?

- will any of our new additions be unvaccinated?

...press credentials should be revoked immediately if so!

Sounds like we are going to be up at the level of the screen on ball screens or just below in the middle of the floor as a base. I've always referred to that as an "aggressive drop".

Chauncey has talked about being a help team and was curious what that was going to look like. Small part of me feared we'd see a hedge and recover base scheme. We've seen that that shit doesn't work in large doses.

I'm sure we'll see some hedging and blitzing at times, especially on side ball screen with an empty corner. Sometimes in the middle of the floor based on the other teams lineups.

Are people not aware that EVERY top defensive team still runs drop as their base scheme?
We saw Stotts implement it for a decade without success. He even lied about changing it last year when he fell back into old habits without giving any other coverage a chance. His defense on Steph Curry in the playoffs was an abomination and he was ridiculed for it all over the media. He also publicly chastised guys for trapping and hedging. He also had to be personally implored by guys like Evan Turner and Mason Plumlee to get more aggressive on ball screens because he wanted to be more conservative.

So save me the lecture on the merits of that shitty defense and just let me be happy that Billups is bringing something new.

Hey man. Im just as disappointed about the defense we've seen the last couple years. Change was clearly needed. I'm not arguing any of that.

But how much of that blame people wanna put on the scheme alone is a whole other deal.

Terry clearly didn't have the buy-in from the players and we saw how that affected the effort / discipline and execution of whatever scheme we were in.

That alone (plus the clear personnel improvements defensively) is going to have a larger positive affect than any tweaks Chauncey is going to make scheme wise imo

let's agree to disagree on this one.

I hope you guys caught Chauncey's post-practice media session too. Can really see the similarities of his approach and the presence he commands to how Dame is.

Lmao going from listening to terry’s press conferences to chaunceys is like going from a bicycle to an Aston Martin. We’ll see what the results are but he’s way more personable and it’s easy to tell the players enjoy him more as well. I’m sure Stotts was a good guy but there’s little doubt his coaching style also confused pretty much everyone except dame and CJ. With Chauncey it’s much more cut and dry and it’s refreshing to hear a coach actually answer questions instead of giving a condescending shrug and smirk.

A TON of compliments and attaboys being launched around for our new coach.
I myself don’t have any opinions yet, he hasn’t coached a SINGLE game yet.

I don’t listen to local sports talk radio…… right now on 620am this dude actually sounds drunk! Who is he?

Usually Chad Doing (same dude who does the pre-game and post-game shows) is on the air at the time you posted that, so that'd be my guess, but I wasn’t listening, so I can't say for sure.

There is a huge difference between playing significant drop coverage as a component of a defense; and the Stotts Blazers that were 99% drop coverage every game of every season despite any personnel or opponents on the floor.

Is there a way to verify this number? How much of the time the Blazers play certain defensive schemes? I think it would be really cool to figure that out?

This is a message board for Blazer fanatics, so it make sense to have excitement for the first big scheme changes of the team after 9 years. Obviously a lot of this could fail, Blazers fans know very well the chance of disappointment.

What doesn't make sense is a Lakers fan working for the Blazers then posting 56k message on a Blazers fan site.

Not really much being said about Scott Brooks on the staff. I kind of figured he would have a pretty big role as well. We did hear Nurk speak about Roy Rogers.

Brooks, I imagine, will mostly be Billups' coaching coach. The rest of the staff likely interacts more with the players than Brooks will.
