Not fantasizing at all, tell me what Dames comp is? He's an asset that has a certain amount of value in the league.
I didn't mean that as a direct response to your post. It's just a little bit odd that no one seems to be interested in discussing real trade possibilities anymore.

I'll take a piece of toast for Melo. I'll pay a second to get rid of Melo.
The great thing about one year contracts is they can be bought out or just waived. So you'd never have to give up a pick to get rid of Melo. You just tell him, "Good luck and it was nice knowing you." I do think that may leave hole in our roster but the point is that you want him gone... he can just be gone.

Ball would be the only guy on the roster that’s pass-first and a good defender.

He’d fill the Nic Batum role instantly.

How about CJ McCollum plus either Giles or Melo for Ball, Reddick and Hayes. http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y3uxdv4j
I would do that. It puts a good backup behind Dame, I think we'd have Reddick and Gary split time at SG. That would be a lot of back court depth. Reddick's contract gives us some cap room in the off season that can be used, if we want, on all of the RFAs we would have at that point. I am really high on Hayes. Now @BonesJones would point out that this trade doesn't give us a second guy (next to Dame) that can create offense/get his own shot and he'd be right. I do think there might be better trades out there for CJ.

I understand that. I also know they won't do that.

On a personal level, I am willing to give up assets so I don't have to watch him anymore.

Why are people so intrigued with giving C.J. up for garbage to get cap room? Cap room for what? Another Derrick Jones Jr? Why have $10M in cap space when you could have a $10M MLE? Cant believe a guy would trade a guy who's averaging an efficient 27 & 5 for that. Ugh.

CJ's AST% is higher than his this year.

cherry picking

CJ's career assist rate is 17%. Ball's is 27%. CJ's 12 game sample size is almost certainly unsustainable in a lot of categories

that said, I probably wouldn't pull the trigger on a CJ for Lonzo deal, straight across (he'll be RFA this summer). I'd trade CJ for LaMelo in a heartbeat though

I'd do it too, if there was nothing better, although Melo has to go out and Gabriel in. I don't care what BonesJones says. Let NO have an injured 29 year old undersized SG with four years left on his contract. I'll take the 23 year old (that's the age when CJ actually just started getting good!) PG who can handle the ball and defend and can only get better. And get a 20 year old lottery pick thrown in. A kid who shoots .665. Extra cap space is just gravy.

However I just saw that Hayes has lost his rotation spot to Willy Hernangomez; maybe he is not too good?

It’s because CJ is a non-factor. Literally. He’s out for the good part (if not all) the balance of the season.

Considering CJs a score first 2-gaurd who people describe as a "black hole" and Lonzo's a past first PG, I'd expect it to be much more. Lonzo's playmaking is extremely overrated.

So the question I have for you is, do you think that CJ and Dame play well together? Do you think that they are equal to, greater than or less than the sum of their parts (talent and skills) when on the court together?

They add up to a LOT more than Dame+DeRozan, Dame+Gordon, or Dame+A little cap space...

What....

Lonzo is probably more injury-prone than CJ, and Lonzo will never be more than a role player. Let's downgrade our top end talent to do what, further waste Dame's prime?

Do you think they add up to more than Dame+Randle w/Rivers as a backup guard?

I do think if we have Randle we would have to move Nurk for a more mobile 5 but that's another discussion.

Is Dame+CJ>Dame+Randle+Rivers? When considering the rest of the roster.

I like Randle a lot but I feel that trade would be pointless as it wouldn’t elevate us to championship contender. If we are trading CJ it have to be for all-nba type player. CJ has taken his game up to a whole other level this year. And the way how he has been playing is pretty sustainable to keep it up. Now if we could get Randle without giving up CJ then that would be awesome
