Game Thread 2022-23 Game #1 - BLAZERS @ KINGS - OCTOBER 19, 2022 - WEDNESDAY - 7:00 PM (PDT) ROOT

I thought the Kings played pretty well; they were hot from three and attacked the paint. Probably played better that what their median will be. Essentially, they had the last 25 games of last season to work on their rotation and for the players to get used to each other.

on the other hand, Blazers were fairly ragged. But unlike the Kings, this was really the first time this rotation played a real game together. It's going to take time to become familiar with each other and learn how to play together

and still, the Blazers won the game on the road. Yeah, it wasn't the Warriors or Suns or Bucks. But it was the game on the schedule and Portland won. So maybe, the pre-season really didn't tell us anything after all

Going forward, meaning like 5 years from now? Or this seasons?

I can't entertain that you could seriously think benching Dame for Shapre is a good idea.
Wait... you can't entertain that @KSF-ERIC thinks an absolutely awful idea is a good idea. Are you just being kind or have you not been paying attention to his posts for the last forever whether it's this moniker or his past monikers?

Going forward now. Not bench Dame. Trade him. I explained why. It sucks but it's the right basketball decision.

There will be some bad stretches for this team, but there is a lot of potential there. Also, I love Winslow, have loved him since Miami, if he never had the injuries, he would have been an all-star candidate

I think he'd be more valuable without the injuries but he would have never been thought of as an all-star with how bad his shot is.

Or fucking benching him. One bad shooting game and these guys are talking about how he's washed. Fuck that noise. Onto the next game!
Had nothing to do with how good of a player he is. I mean, maybe if we bench Simons, it could work. But Sharpe should start at SG. Period.

Chris Paul did have 9 assists but shot 1-6 and did not play down the stretch in Phoenix's comeback win over Dallas.
That's what Billups needs to do with Lillard and Simons when they are not dominating on offense together.

Alright. If you're just commenting on the fact that Dame and Ant didn't look any more complementary than Dame and CJ ever did... I totally agree with you. I would trade Ant, I think we could get a lot of value for him. Neither guy can be traded until January, so let's hope that they both show good individual games like Dame and CJ did for so many years but that Cronin can tell it's just not a good fit and we get an upgrade hopefully by trading Ant and Nurk for a really good C.

I think Dame, Shae and Josh starting wouldn't be a bad thing at all, as long as Hart stops over dribbling. That dude dribbled more tonight than Dame and Ant combined but everything else from Hart was nice.

If Billups is forced to play Lillard and McSimons together at the end of every game it will be worse then the Lillard / McCollum era because they now have better veterans and Shaedon Sharpe and who knows how good Jabari Walker is.

And who the hell is going to be sitting on the bench when Gary Payton is available???

Draymond Green and Ben Simmons were both All-Stars with equally bad shooting. Winslow is the same type of player as them.
He's a Dray type of player but he's just smaller than Dray, not as big of a body, not as long of a reach... just smaller. Comparing him to Simmons is fucking ridiculous. Simmons is an absolute monster. He's way way bigger, he's far more athletic, he's far more skilled in every skill besides shooting which we already established Winslow sucks at too. So yeah, if a smaller Draymond could be an all-star but try and find a smaller Draymond that's been an all-star... you can't.

I know it was circumstantial, but the minutes tonight:

J. Grant SF - 35
D. Lillard PG - 37
J. Hart SG - 38
A. Simons SG - 36

I hope those won't be the averages for those guys, especially Dame

Billiups did this to start the season last year. I think he feels a sense of urgency to get some early wins given how things went last season and this preseason.

Those are playoff-like minutes and to your point, not wise long term.

Sharpe looks like he is a better defender than even his own teammates are giving him credit for. Hopefully they will learn.
I can’t wait till he gets his man strength and he still may get taller. He’s going to fierce at the rim with an NBA body!

What was Lillard thinking when he threw that horrible pass ( I think it was a pass) to Justise Winslow with two minutes left in the game? All he had to do was throw a lob into Winslow and he would've grabbed it away from Kevin Huerter and probably got a layup. instead he threw a bullet that hit the backboard. Nurkic would be roasted if he threw that pass. It was a pass we'd expect from a panicked CJ Elleby.

Sharpe's defense was pretty good all things considering. His 1:1 defense in particular is really advanced.

I recall one bad show/help giving up an easy 3 one pass away. If that was his only real negative play on defense, that's real solid for his first game.

I'm still not confident he'll average over 16mpg game this year, but obviously if he plays anywhere close to this on a consistent basis, Billups will have no choice.

Yeah off ball he has a few blunders. But mostly I thought his on ball defense was better than any of our guards in the way he was able to stay in front of his man.
