Guys it’s crazy how both Blazers and Seahawks outperforming expectations in the same damn year. Are we sure we want Jody to sell? Seems to me she knows exactly what she’s doing

I don’t really remember Stotts even running any kind of zone. One of the main philosophies of a zone is to hide players who have defensive deficiencies.

Your memory is failing you then. Though we run way more zone than we used to. Oh, and zone (in the NBA) can help hide one bad defender, not really 2 or 3.

I think Billups is a better defensive coach (actually Rogers) than Stotts or any assistant he had. Though, back to roster being the most important thing. Last year Billups (and Rogers) were "coaching their ass off" and we were the 2nd worst defensive team in the league. And we were playing more zone than in previous years. Why? Because our roster wasn't a great defensive roster!

I think Watford might be one of my favorite stories. Undrafted, but so smart. He might not put up big numbers, but makes so man of the hustle plays and smart decisions. Just seems to know what to do and where to be to help the team. Plus he plays good defense and can switch onto lots of different players.

I hope all the fans that disavowed the team and swore not to watch any more Blazers games because the franchise hired Chauncey really kept their word so they are not getting the opportunity to enjoy this team right now.
That’s their secret... They never watched any games to begin with.

After all the shit Chauncey had to go through last season, I really am so happy for him.
What did he have to go through?

I thought it was a pretty relaxed low pressure situation. Compare that to what Nash went through with the Nets or Ham on the Lakers.

Terry was not the problem, which does not mean Chauncey could be better in time...

I think people on these boards have underestimated the Jerami Grant effect.

If you could trade Grant, Hart, Winslow, or Sharpe for any of the 20+ forwards we had from 2015-22, how many one for one trades would you make?

The fact you have to pause to think if you'd take back our best forward over a 7 year stretch for the 4th best forward on this years roster shows you just how bad it was!

And more importantly: If Olshey was here and we sat Dame & Nurk, we would've played the NOP with Bazemore, Whiteside, Melo, Gaberial, and Hezonja. I think the outcome would've been different!

Yeah this is the difference, more so than Stotts vs Billups.

Although I agree with the point Stotts ran Dame and other starters way too hard.

But Stotts got plenty out of shitty players. Making a WCF with a Harmless Aminu one armed Kanter front court is pretty amazing.

Does 2015 include LMA?

Players were in bad habits from the previous coach. Covington and Powell were good defenders when they came to Portland. Billups we’re trying to implement new stuff and guys with old habits didn’t buy in.

I do agree it takes good defenders to have a good defense. But I apparently weigh the scheme of things more heavily than you do. Billups and staff are way better schematically then Stotts and his multiple staffs. And I don’t think from a personnel point that we’re night and day a roster of better defenders. Maybe slight upgrades with Grant being the exception. The type of long rangey defender we’ve always needed.

Jerami reminds me if cliff robinson.
I mean Cliffy wasn't close to as athletic as Jerami is but I guess he was for his time at the PF spot. Cliff was and Jerami is really good and versatile but not great on both ends.

I kind of feel like the Jazz are stealing our glory from a national perspective.

Cliff was pretty athletic but he was much taller he played Center back in the 90's. Yeah he also played both forward spots. Could shoot 3's and defend. He was really ahead of his time, would be much more in demand for today's game.

I normally would hate watching a game with Dame, Nurk and Sharpe sitting. Assuming we’d lose but damn I love smart unselfish basketball. Again highest bb IQ I’ve seen in the 40 years I’ve been watching this team play. Fun watching them take on the coaches personality

We are only going to get better when Gary Payton is ready to play. I’m jut enjoying the ride. Haven’t this much fun and pride watching blazer basketball in a long time. I knew Billups would be an amazing coach. I think having an actual good power forward in Grant is huge, we have been missing that for so long. Enjoy the ride bros.

Shout out to Josh Hart. This guy is the definition of a TEAM player. He's sacrificing his touches to do the dirty work.

Career highs in Rebounds, Assists, and Steals.

Not only is he averaging a career high in assists (4.7), but he's also only averaging 1.9 TOs per game. That's a 2.47 a/t ratio. Damn good for a shooting guard!
