Billups is a coach

Stotts was an observer.
But but but, there are some on this forum (they know who they are) that swear that coaching (and by extension, coaches) doesn’t matter! Lol GTFO with that garbage. Chauncey has these boys believing, buying into playing defense and, most of all, PLAYING WITH EFFORT and intensity for 4 quarters!

And there are people who actually think people on the forum said that. LOL GTFO with that garbage. This forum has a search function and that phrase only seems to come up from people saying other people say it, but no post of someone making that claim. If your narrative is so bad you have to flat out make things up, especially on a night where we had a great win, that's a bad deal.

Billups is a good coach this year, as he was last year, when we were awful all season!

Honestly don't know what Ben Simmons would provide this team that Justice Winslow is not already delivering.

Winslow can setup the offense, runs PG, defends all positions, not a great shooter but knows his limitations and makes the smart play.

He makes $4 million and is ideally a backup but can start when needed. Pretty awesome to see him running PG with and without Ant tonight. Hed get the ball to Grant or whoever it should go to.

That no PG lineup was super sick on defense. Maybe we should trade both Dame and Ant (kidding)

I personally never say anything. I’m very quiet and reserved.

Spot on.

To be fair…. I wouldn’t trade Grant or Sharpe for 2015 LMA.

That's high praise!

My bigger point is that Winslow (our #4 forward) might be better than that last 10ish starting forwards in the Olshey area. That's crazy to think about!

Didn't you making a thread titled "Stotts is the worst coach in franchise history!" or and I'm blending that with another thread? I'll just make it up and pretend like it happened even though I can be easily fact-checked!

Eh…. He’s different from Harkless and Aminu but do you think he’s better?

I would never…….. I would have made that post about Cheeks though.

I mean Cliffy wasn't close to as athletic as Jerami is but I guess he was for his time at the PF spot. Cliff was and Jerami is really good and versatile but not great on both ends.
Cliff made the all defense 2nd team. His 2pt% wasn't great thoygh.

Shout out to Josh Hart. This guy is the definition of a TEAM player. He's sacrificing his touches to do the dirty work.

Career highs in Rebounds, Assists, and Steals.

Not only is he averaging a career high in assists (4.7), but he's also only averaging 1.9 TOs per game. That's a 2.47 a/t ratio. Damn good for a shooting guard!

He really is the 'heart' of this team. Both he and Justise (finally spelling his name right!)
Everything changed last year, when those two showed up.

Players were in bad habits from the previous coach. Covington and Powell were good defenders when they came to Portland. Billups we’re trying to implement new stuff and guys with old habits didn’t buy in.

I do agree it takes good defenders to have a good defense. But I apparently weigh the scheme of things more heavily than you do. Billups and staff are way better schematically then Stotts and his multiple staffs. And I don’t think from a personnel point that we’re night and day a roster of better defenders. Maybe slight upgrades with Grant being the exception. The type of long rangey defender we’ve always needed.

I don't believe your theories are accurate, but since they are simply theories, we'll never know.

I challenge you to look at the how the previous 10 starting forwards on the Blazers are doing throughout the league (if they're still in it).

Hood when healthy was much better on offense. Aminu was better overall Id say, he was super good defensively. Problem was Aminu was our best forward instead of as you say Winslow being 4th. Aminu and Grant wouldve been an impressive duo.

Hood was WAY better scorer, no doubt. Was he better overall (including ball handling, passing, and defense)? It's close. Aminu was a good defender and better shooter than Winslow. He was also 1% the playmaker the Winslow is. I think cases can be made for a few of those forwards over Winslow, but none of them are slam dunk cases. That's nuts!

I’m trying to understand why Winslow and Grant have been bounced around the league so much. Both players have played several teams. But, yet they’re thriving under coach Billups.

Their 4th and 5th teams respectively. Seemingly shining under Billups tutelage.

I think he went to Phoenix after Portland? Had some great defensive years later in his career.

Cliff was a superior rebounder. Cliff would thrive in todays NBA. Grant/Cliff are different. Love them both!

How are we going to get all these guys playing time, Billups hold my clipboard. Grant and Nurk take the night off, next night Dame Sharpe and Nurk take the night off. Then turns to next guy up and says your turn go get it done, go play your ass off!

Most likely because they were on tradeable deals? They were never the main piece of a deal except when Grant came to Portland. Just a theory though.

This is where Cronin has a tough job. He's quickly got the depth of this roster to a point where it needs a consolidation trade to maximize its potential. The scary part is, a consolidation trade could also blow up that continuity.

Dude you have zero credibility. Quit while you’re ahead (behind?). Like literally zero credibility. You are the poster boy for forgetting about all the dumb shit you write. See below for NUMEROUS examples.

If you've read my posts, you know I do not think a lack of a coaching change is what was causing us to not be contenders

Again, I'm NOT saying Billups sucks, I'm not saying injuries don't matter, and I'm not saying we ran the best schemes in the past. What I was saying before the coaching change was I did not think we were likely to see a significantly improvement by only changing the coach who focuses on defense.

Tough to say about Boston in this scenario, but my stance has always been coaching doesn't make a HUGE difference.

That is, if coaching mattered a lot, which of course, I don't think it does.

If you've read the majority of my posts over the season you would know I think coaching in general is highly overrated and is just the low hanging fruit people use to get their anger out.

And here you almost quote the exact phrase I referenced.

You'd think someone with 2 all-nba players, both good defenders, would be able to scheme up something. Or maybe the coaching just doesn't really matter that much.

I don't know how many times I have to say this: My stance is that coaching (not Stotts) plays such a small role in overall team success that it is not something worth creating an entire brand over.

I'll be called an apologist of the next coach as well, it comes with the territory when my stance is that coaching plays a very small role on overall team success.
