He became too passive at the end.
i will refrain from saying the disrespectful shit i want to say in response to this clueless post.

as you were.

dude literally killed himself to win this game for us and was getting trapped hard because the rest of his team let him down to close the game. legit question, are you watching the games?

I get the panic but we are a team that literally has no bench right now. Our bench is 2 rookies, a guy we signed on a 10 day last season and a guy just returning from injury. We have absolutely no depth and have been able to compete in games. It’s obvious the starters are running of out gas late in games. Once Winslow and Nas come back it will help. And we need to make some moves.

Everyone loves Dame but why is it so hard for people to admit that just maybe at his age and salary he has also handicapped our flexibility to improve the roster? “Go get another all star for Dame”, how the fuck are we supposed to do that? I love Dame, but we are currently the 11th worst team in the league, we can’t even win when he drops 50 lol. Our front office failed him a long time ago and then continued putting bandaids over the problem while Dame’s contracts grew. There isn’t ONE obtainable player that will make us contenders, what does that tell you? Some of you may care more about keeping Dame his entire career and are more of a Dame fan than a Blazers fan and that’s fine, I’m not.

I agree, except that the talent on this bench isn't big enough... we haven't seen the lack of post depth like this before.

I agree with you. My #1 concern going into the season with the lack of size at every starting position (minus Nurk) and we had no center depth if Nurk went down. Luckily Nurk hasn't been out for a long stretch, but being undersized 1-4 and off the bench has been and will continue to be problematic.

Yeah he had said after the last loss that he wasn't going to do that any more but I don't know if he was expecting to play 21 minutes of the second half.

True

Dame had an amazing game and for naught. I was really excited to see him be extra aggressive tonight. For awhile he has allowed the defense to dictate his every move. Tonight he was pulling up and shooting shots in people's faces and making them. He went back to allowing the defense to dictate his moves late, but I guess he ran out of gas. It was good to see his aggression most of the game. Hope that continues.

Has Dame's $42m handicapped our flexibility more than Ant + Nurk's $38m handicaps our flexibility? Frankly, I'd much rather have $38 to try to replace the production of Ant/Nurk than I would have $42 and try to fill Dame's shoes.

Needed him to finish off the game though. Sadly, we needed 57 from him.

bro these cats who complain about dame's contract have no idea of this thing called the salary cap.

and they conveniently forget that his extension will only begin two years from now when we'll be deep in the tax regardless.

oh but wait, i was told he's gonna fall off two years from now and look like Love did tonight.

I think Nurk is here because of Dame, I hate Nurk. Nurk and GP2 were just more bandaids.

so in summary, this is your narrative tonight:

1. dame is old and will fall off in two years.

2. dame is paid too much.

3. dame got his friends paid. i "hate" his friends, so i don't want dame here.

4. it's dame's fault.

thanks for the laughs.

So the plan is to wait till Dame is 35 and we are deep in the tax to build around him? Thanks for explaining that, sounds genius. Go polish up ur Dame bobble heads and have a good night.

What's your realistic plan to replace Dame's production? What gives you confidence we'll be able to identify, accquire, and retain that level of talent?

dame's contract two years from now is the reason the rest of the team sucks and this coach still can't coach his way out of a paper bag in close games?
Dames contract is massive before two years from now. I thought it was Stotts. Or Neil. Or Joe C. It’s Billups? Or CJ?

what?

what is dame's contract stopping this team from getting this year?

if anything the GP2 deal and hard capping ourselves for that clueless contract is far more of a handcuffing than dame's 42 mil.

We wont, there are no guarantees. But we are guaranteed not to win a title as currently constructed. It’s called taking a chance for something greater over a decade of continued mediocrity.

The real Blazer thing to do will to go on a tear in the second half, get to the 9 seed, win the playin game(s), lose the draft pick, get everyone excited, get swept in the first round. I actually fully expect this.
I don’t think so. The last 5 games were supposed to be our tear. People were talking winstreak with this schedule. Instead, we’re 0-5. We’re done. Trade Dame for injured AD. Tank. Roll with Simons/Sharpe/Grant/AD/Wembenyama next year. A couple years of seasoning and they’d make regular appearances in the NBA Finals.

Who said one thing about tonight, how many 35 year old point guards in the league right now are worth 50 mil? Cause that’s what’s gonna happen. Turn down the homerism a bit bro. No one is saying Dame sucks, I’m saying he’s probably gonna be holding us back with that salary cap hit more than he will be helping at that point. Relax

are you aware that the first year of his extension comes in the season AFTER new media deals, including lucrative international streaming rights are signed? And that projections of the salary cap in 2025 with no smoothing (like last time) are in the 170-190M range. If it is 190M, Dame will be making about 30% of the cap instead of 35%; at 180M, that's 32% of the cap, which is about the level of his current salary vs the current cap. The conservative number of 171M has Dame's salary as 34% of the cap. People have been acting like his extension is going to be half of the cap

now, those cap projections are for the impact of the new TV deals. I've seen speculation that streaming rights deals could add another 10-20M to the salary cap on top of the 170-190M

going by the rumors and conjecture, this new round of media deals should increase the cap by at least the same amount as the media deals in 2016. That increase was 34.5%. The current cap is 134M. That was up 11M from last season. If the 2024-25 salary cap is, for instance, 145M and the media deal bump in 34.5%, the cap would be 195M; and Dame's share of the cap would be 29.8%.

the owners will want smoothing. The player will almost certainly reject smoothing...like last time

I was told Dame was old.

But drops 50 points. Win or lose that's just embarrassing for anyone to say that lmaaaaaaao.
I was also told Nurk should shoot 3s/ the refs are the reason we are losing/Nurk is playing like shit because of Billups/and our bench was better than the Clippers.
Can’t always believe what you’re told FAMS.
