now the big question.

do you play shaedon in these last two games?

The Timberwolves would also be only one game behind the Clippers and Warriors, except the Blazers BEAT THEM.
Oops.

We were in 6th and back then the odds were a lot longer to move up from 6 to 1 than they are now. We had a 5.3% chance of landing that pick and this year, if we can get losses against these last two teams that should be playing hard to win, with really good rosters... we'll have nearly double that chance at 10.5%,
Oh c’mon basketball gods, just give it to us please

Geez, that was rough. I hope we don’t ever have to do this again because I’m tired of trying to explain to my 6 year old why I’m rooting against the Blazers.
It's fucking brutal and tonight more than any other game I felt dirty afterwards because of just how badly I wanted us to lose. That being said, not a personal attack on anyone, but you're a simpleton if you don't understand why we have to lose these games. In NBA basketball losses have value right now and wins hurt the team. Those in this forum who think we should be playing to win these games want the team to be damaged. It's a little nuanced but the reality is losses are good for our team right now and wins are bad. It fucking sucks but it is the way it is.

They were tied with Houston in the win column.
There is a 23% chance that both Houston and San Antonio both get bounced out of the top 4. In that case, Houston would pick before San Antonio if San Antonio has a better record.
Could be a big difference between picking 5th, and picking 6th.
Of course there’s over a 75% chance it doesn’t matter and one or both teams get into the top 4.

Ah makes sense

6th I believe, but the odds were much worse back then.

Makes me wonder if it’s increased the likelihood that teams try and tank or not. I thought they evened the odds out to prevent that. Maybe I’m wrong

I don’t think he’s against it. He just is tired of explaining the sitch to his son. Understandable.

Haha same with my 6 year old. He was confused why I was rooting against them I had to play it off

No. Would be my answer.
Yeah, that's a hell no. He's on the injury report so let the dude sit. He showed more in his first season in the NBA without playing a college game than Kobe or TMac.

The hope was that the flat odds for the worst 3 teams and the more balanced odds would reduce tanking. It doesn't seem to be working.

The only way to prevent tanking would be to have even odds for all 30 teams.

If Shaedon can beat a fully trying Clippers or Warriors team….we’ll…

The only solution to tanking is relegation and that is never happening.

Well, only the top 4 spots are determined by the lottery. There would still be plenty of reason to tank if you’re already bad.

Is someone suggesting that all 30 first-round picks be determined by the lottery?

I honestly think that reversing the lotto odds would do it... take some of the odds to win it from the last four out of the playoffs and the worst team in the league can have like a 3% chance to win the first pick instead of 0.7% but reverse the lotto and smooth the odds just a little bit. Teams will be playing to win and after the four lotto winning picks you still obviously draft worst to best but teams will not be tanking. If teams who could make the playoffs want to tank for the chance that they might win the lotto let them but I think there would be a big bunch up 7-12 in both conferences and the teams outside of that would not be there by choice. What I'm saying is that a team who could make the playoff but wanted to tank for a 9% chance at a top four pick might slip further than the last four in.

I think it would make games like tonight go away completely actually and I would be more than happy with that.

they have flat odds for the #1 pick. But if they don’t get #1, the number 2, 3, and 4 teams draft in that order. So the spurs still had incentive to lose and hold onto #2.

GS is not going to want to do us any favors.

The Warriors are only a half game ahead of the Lakers for the 6th seed in the West. No way they’re going to mess around and risk dropping to the play-in.

Correct.

If they had a true lottery, for all 30 picks, with even odds for all 30 teams, there would no incentive for teams to lose.

given how crucial those games are for our opponents, and with us being at home... think he might play
Don’t underestimate how bad the Warriors are on the road. Just announced that Wiggins will not return in the regular season. If we don’t keep our eyes on the prize, we might mess around and win the game.
