Game Thread 2022-23 PRESEASON - GAME #5 - BLAZERS @ WARRIORS - OCTOBER 11, 2022 - TUESDAY - 7:00PM (PDT) ROOT

The Blazers can simply put out on the court the players that played together and played hard for the 4-game win streak last season, that forced Cronin to sit players down.
Surely Jerami Grant is better overall than CJ Elleby.
Simons, Hart, Winslow, somebody (Grant or Little) and Nurkic.
Honestly, I think they would easily beat Billups current lineup that has no chemistry.
They certainly would be more fun to watch.

So bench Dame?

So bench Dame?
What I'm saying is that Billups should be able to do at least as well as that unit that played last season.
That would pathetic and sad if our team couldn't at least do that.
Yes, bench Dame if that's what it takes because it's a ridiculous situation that anyone should see.
We have the same damn players, there's no excuse.
"Oh we have to play Dame and Simons together because Dame and CJ worked so well."

But this is the preseason, so what happened doesn't matter. It just doesn't look good.

Greg Brown... what is up with that guy.

Geez, Chauncey has barely been the head coach for a year and people already calling for his job. His first season was a tank year with high roster turnover. At least give him a chance with a stable roster.
He’s got a roster full of vets and they look totally discombobulated out there. Lillard will come in and save the day a few times a month and Nurk will have his obligatory great game once a month, and it’ll be lipstick on a pig. Or maybe they’ll suddenly figure out how to play defense and run a good offense in the next few weeks.

I don’t disagree with anything here but he’s barely been here a year. I don’t know if he’s the right guy or not but he deserves more than a year to implement his system. He only had Dame for 20+ games last season. There are vets on this roster but there are also a lot of young guys as well.

If he inherited a roster that was ready to win immediately and this was the result, then yes, the seat should be hotter. But by no means was this a roster that was ready to win immediately.

Roster "full" of vets?

They have (realistically) 3 seasoned vets on the team.

Hart, Little, Simons, Winslow, Payton, and Eubanks are "vets" because they've played a bit, but they're not really vets.

5 players are in their 1st or 2nd years Walker, Sharpe, Brown III, Johnson and Watford.

And of the actual vets they have, 1 is coming off of a surgery that has changed his game a bit, the other is a brand new player on the team (and done surprisingly well) and the third is the Bosnian Least.

The team needs another vet.

Hart, Little, Winslow, Grant, Eubanks, Nurk, Lillard, Payton, Simons are all vets and all play a lot except maybe Eubanks. So yes that’s a roster full of vets. This isn’t the Spurs or OKC.

I’ve reached the age where seeing young players be freaky athletic does not get me excited anymore. I’m tired of alley oops and breakaway dunks being considered elite play.

Obviously Shaedon is talented. I want to see quality defense and high % 3pt shooting.

I don't have any confidence in this team, but I don't think "big changes" are very possible. Nor do I think that management will suddenly change its tune over a 5 game swing.

I know that Cronin has said, "We're not done" with this team, but... it's about as done as it's going to be this year. We just need to try to get into the playoffs and have Dame win us some games. That's not a very good hope, I don't think, but it's probably better than changing courses 20 games into this stupid approach (mainly because I don't think the stupidity can be un-stupided this year).
Fair enough i guess? Not sure i agree though you might be right? I see 5 or 6 players that could really gel and start to win some games. Blazers need to add a solid player to that mix.
Things don't seem to look right as it is right now? I also don't think Billups has much of a clue yet? I'd like to see where they are at the end of November. This will address the GP2 core surgery issue as well. Last we heard on this was around mid September he was "on schedule" to be back for the start of the season.
It's just my take at this point? What else can they do but try to make the very best of what they have?

You really think Chauncey could take this team to the Western Conference Finals with an injured Enes Kanter as the starting center?

I'm not ready to pronounce any judgement on Chauncey at this point. He has a lot of new people, young people and the most important person returning from being out most of last season who hasn't really played with a large portion of the roster.

I think preseason has been more experimentation than worry about winning.

Still - what we've seen in preseason doesn't give a lot of reason for optimism as we head into the regular season.

Offensive scheme - do we have one?

Defense - has that been discussed/emphasized?

I hope we see something different as the season starts but as others have said, I'll give it a while before I get overly judgmental - doesn't mean I won't get frustrated has all get-out on occasions but I'll try to keep that in check.

No Curry, no Draymond, no Wiggins, no Thompson....and we still got blown out? Again? I get it's pre-season, but it's getting worse, not better.

Time to watch the Shaedon highlights again. Wembanyama may not be that small of a chance after all.

Things I expect under Chauncey

Better defense

Better ball movement

That’s it, and neither of those two things are happening….so far

wins and losses will take care of themselves, but it’s been really sad to watch this trash Dame and Ant-J are still bogging down the offense. Nurk is still super frustrating. Hart is undersized. Grant looks good so far.

No one boxes out. Really disappointed so far. I know it’s incredibly early

Huh? We have alot of young guys.

It's always the talent. A coach is easier to fire though...
