Payton is an undersized one-trick pony. He can defend the guard positions well. Offensively there’s a lot to be desired.

he improved as a shooter, but even if he’s a one trick pony, he does it at an elite level. He was third in the league in DBPM behind Jokic and Giannis, and just ahead of Thybulle.

Btw Bruce brown was also top 30 in the league in DBPM.

I have a hard time believing the report of an 8M offer to Payton. That would hard-cap Portland

just to review...yes, Payton is great defensively. But he's 6'2 for chrissakes. This is a guy who has averaged 14 minutes (17.6 this year), 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist. 8 million?

why is it so fucking hard for Portland to stock up on 6'6 to 6'9 wings when the rest of the NBA doesn't seem to have much of a problem doing so?

There just aren't that many of them right now.

my bigger worry with payton is projecting his impact in a system that isn't GS. draymond does so much for them to compensate for his teammates and he makes all his guys look better
Their offense relies far more on movement and passing than ours traditionally. GP in a static, Dame-centered offense scares the hell out of me.

anything offensively he gives us is a bonus. i'm just not sure his defense can translate.

It's not about what he gives on offense, it is about what he takes away from everyone else on that side. To be fair, it would have been the same issue with Thybulle and to a lesser degree, Brown.

PM isn’t a stat that I value very highly.

Basically the modern Bulls. They made so many trash players look decent.

Give me some Judd Buechler!

I mean look at Steve Kerr as a player. He wasn’t really a PG. He was just a guy who would watch hall of famers doing their thing waiting for the kick out for 3.

Greatness around you makes you look much better. I feel that way about Looney, too.

One of the Bay Area announcers refers to Payton as the worlds shortest PF. Definitely an interesting player if you have enough shooters to allow him to slash.

STOMP

I would think guard position D would be a good thing for this team to add
