Oh, I didn't know the condition was "a physical or mental condition that limits a person's movements, senses, or activities." The bully is the one who resorted to violence, the other was just an unfunny comedian.
Nope. Chris Rock made a joke about his wifes medical condition. That's the bully. Will Smith going immediately to violence isn't always the best way to handle things. But, making jokes of someones.medical condition is never ok.

I wasn't equating alopecia to a disability. However, it can cause a lot of emotional damage and self esteem issues. I was just stating that I do call out kids who are being bullies and making fun of kids with physical differences. You would be surprised how many parents and kids think it is ok to make fun of kids with various medical conditions and/or disabilities.

Making fun of how someone looks is not ok.

You can lash out but you are saying that it is reasonable to assault someone over a bad joke.

And maybe Chris Rock doesn’t know about her condition.
Nah, Assault isn't always the best option. But, hopefully Rock learned his lesson.and hopefully so do millions of americans watching in an ableist society.

Jada has spoken openly about her condition. I would be shocked if during all the rehearsals and prep work that nobody mentioned it to him if he didn't know. Either way. Don't make fun of how someone looks.

And nobody is saying it is...
Don't write it off as a classless joke then. People shouldn't joke about someones appearance.

Is it ok to joke.about people.with Down syndrome? Because I still hear and see plenty of people doing that.

That's what it is, so that's what I'll call it. You'll live.

Yeah really not the same thing. I just agreed that making fun of someone's looks is not okay and now you're asking me about down syndrome? That's an actual disability. I think we've both given our opinions. Good luck with the whole hitting everyone you want thing.

Making fun of how someone looks is not a joke. It can be very damaging. Not all disabilities or medical conditions are the same. Some can be seen, some can't. For you to continue to think a classless joke can accurately describe someone making fun of someones appearance proves how ignorant you are in an ableist society. Congratulations.

Have I mentioned Will Smith laughed?

It's not uncommon for the acoustics in a made for TV production like that to suck for the actual audience. They're actors with cameras everywhere. Will had a camera focused on him the entire production. (see the close up of his laughing) They laugh at everything whether they heard the actual joke or not. In something like the Oscars they're "on stage". He would have laughed at anything, smiling for the camera, putting on his best look for the fans. "smile for the camera, smile for the camera" he probably didn't think of what was actually being said until he looked at his wife.

Also there is a report that Rock had ripped on Jada the last time he hosted the Oscars and Will talked to him afterward.

Thanks. FYI I think there might be worse things in the world than a movie star sustaining a G.I. Jane joke. As to the larger societal issues you've brought up, I fear we may not solve all those tonight.

Her being a star has nothing to do with her medical condition. Quit trying to justify making fun of someones appearance.

Not when it is in retaliation man to man in regards to bullying and making fun of someones appearance. Sorry.
Wait, are you saying you don't think it's okay to make fun of someone's appearance?

Here’s what we saw in the US. All edited.

Will Smith is now a piece of crap to me. If he can't take a joke, straight up fuck him.

Edit: Chris Rock is what we call "On the Spectrum", due to his diagnosis last year.

Chris Rock Revealed He Has the Learning Disorder NVLD—Here's What That Is.

NVLD shares some symptoms with autism and Asperger's, but it's a different disorder, according to experts.

And, for anyone who doesn't like my comments. I couldn't care less.

I'm Betting Chris Rock wishes he never told that joke.
I'm betting Will Smith wishes he never retaliated in the way he did.

I'm betting this isn't completely over.

I simply cannot imagine the amount of stress that was in that room before and after that event. Just taking my wife to a nice dress up dinner can be extremely stressful. Can you imagine the Oscars where you are supposed to be a favorite to get one with a wife in her position? Can you imagine trying to MC the Oscars?

Off the hook!

You've been with your woman for a long time, no one else may notice but you can read a look on her face and know if you said something you shouldn't have, or you're going to get some later, or she is utterly devastated. I'm guessing Will's response was based on his wife's unspoken reaction.

As someone who has been married over a decade, I can tell you he saw the devastation in his wife's face and it set him off.

Not that he should have reacted that way or that it should be excused.

You guys take your conspiracy theories too far. There's no reason at all for Will Smith to do this on a night where he FINALLY wins an Oscar. This tarnishes his career. Not fake at all. The guy came completely unglued when he was screaming at Chris Rock.

Yeah, 30 years of work to finally get the Oscar and he shit it away. No one is talking about his win and he may have to give the Oscar back. He might not ever be allowed back at the Oscars and who knows how it will affect his career.

I find it interesting that they had rehearsals in which Rock must have said the same joke? Why didn't Smith call him out then and tell him it wasn't ok, and that he couldn't say that during the Oscars?

We don't talk about Bruno

She isn't disabled. That said, Rocks joke about her alopecia was classless.
Here is a definition of Alopecia
Alopecia areata is a chronic disease which may influence individual or social aspects of patients' lives. The results of our study confirmed this fact as the majority of patients believed that their illness had strongly affected their lives. It also influenced their self-esteem.

Here is a definition of disability
a physical, mental, cognitive, or developmental condition that impairs, interferes with, or limits a person's ability to engage in certain tasks or actions or participate in typical daily activities and interactions

The VA actually does qualify Alopecia as a disability. Not all disabilities are the same.

Making fun of someone for a chronic illness and/or physical disability is not going to ever be ok.

It's not stopping her from doing anything. She just acted in the new Matrix movie. She has a TV show etc. She isn't really disabled, but yeah she has medical condition and it shouldn't be made fun of.

Chris Rock shouldn't have said the joke. Will Smith shouldn't have gotten violent. It is what is now.

How do you know that it isn't stopping her from doing anything? The potential psychological/emotional damage from someone losing their hair to a medical condition might be affecting her greatly. It would make the majority of people self conscious and give someone self esteem issues.
