Did your dad assault the co-worker? I'm not trying to minimize how Jada felt and I can't read her mind. Just posting what she said. It was a classless joke that to me seems rather tame compared to some I've heard on award shows, but it didn't need to be said and it clearly hurt her more than Chris Rock thought it would.

If my dad had been with my mom he probably would have.

My mom came out of remission 3 more times over the years, including one time requiring radiation therapy on her scalp. She never wore a wig again during her cancer treatments. But the radiation has left a permanent bald spot on her head and even though she didn't wear a wig she is very sensitive about having a bald spot. Works very hard on styling her hair to cover it.

Just saying, especially with women, while they might say something like hair loss doesn't bother them they're still sensitive about it.

My grandmother had a condition very similar to Jada and she wore a wig every day of my life. I saw her without a wig every once in a awhile and she was mostly bald. I can’t imagine the wig was comfortable but she did it. I know that men are sensitive about losing hair but it’s a socially accepted thing. Male pattern baldness is extremely common. It’s not socially normal for women to go bald and I can only imagine the social pressure. I’m sorry your mom had to go through that.

It just shows you how insensitive folks that try to equate male pattern baldness with a woman becoming bald are.

Tsk tsk - judgemental reverse sexism. You are lumping all men together. How do you know that some men aren't sensitive to losing their hair? If they are, what right do you have to judge them?

My mom had the same type of cancer Paul Allen did, nodular lymphoma. It's a cancer of the lymphatic system. So it can pop anywhere you have a lymph gland.

My mom would battle cancer, beat it, go into remission, then it would pop up somewhere else. After her 5th occurrence, 4th time coming out of remission my mom told my dad and I, she will fight it this one last time but she didn't have another battle left in her. That was very sobering but we understood. The chemo, puking, baldness, weakness, having to work through it. It's hell.

Luckily she has never had to battle it again.

Not all men lose their hair. Guys can be sensitive about losing their hair. I don't have as much hair as I once did either. Still isn't the same thing as a woman losing her hair. Sorry.

The Academy is launching a full review of the incident. The governing body of the Academy held an emergency phone meeting to discuss whether to suspend Will Smith from the Academy or to take back his trophy.
This is the same academy that gave roman polanski an oscar. fuck them.

Look, I was beaten by a drunk of a father as a kid for YEARS! You being worried about harsh words and how it affects/effects people just doesn’t register with somebody who got hit with a poker from the fireplace because he forgot to take out the trash. I WISH my dad had just yelled at me and called me horrible names.
VIOLENCE IS ONLY OK IN THE CASE OF SELF DEFENSE!

Damn dude, that is awful! I'm so sorry you (or any kid) had to go through that.

I'm worried about harsh words because I have seen it destroy kids that are not considered "normal." Kids that have various syndromes. Kids that have disabilities. Kids that are a little nerdy. And I see how devastated they are when other kids call them monsters. Or call they losers. Or tell them they are pieces of shit or are ugly. Words can have lifelong effects on these kids. And sometimes the only thing that stops a bully is a kid one day sticking up for himself and socking this kid as hard as they can to let them know they aren't to be messed with. It might be easy for some folks to let words go and have them have no affect on you. For some of these kids that's all they hear from people. So much so they join in when they get an opportunity to make fun of someone else. I've seen parents of bully kids join in and start making fun of these kids too. You can bet your ass i'll get in that adults face when I see that.

Violence doesn't always have to be the first option. Maybe not even the second or third.

But people need to stop making fun of others for their appearance, medical conditions, disabilities. It is fucked up. And sometimes those people deserve to be smacked.

I am not totally sure, but I don’t think ONE person on here has said verbal abuse is OK…..

Just that violence isn’t the cure or answer to that problem. Never.
