He is not that type of guy. Chauncey did just this out of halftime and Ayton gabe Zubac one of the easiest blocks of his career. He's not someone that you give the ball to and get out of the way.

Ayton should just collect his paychecks and walk in the summer od 2026 then.. If I was Ayton i'd mail it in if thats how it was... Luckily, thats not how it is..

Ayton can face up and Back down opponents, he's got a solid hookshot in the arsenal, u dont need to baby him... He can punish smaller opponents.. Zubac isnt a smaller opponent n Ivica feasted last night because other parts of the offense were totally shut down in that 1st quarter..

I have a pretty good feeling that final score woulda been the same with last years roster too.

What's positive. Although Ayton didn't do much, he did get 12 rebounds and 3 steals in 23 minutes. I think Anf is trying harder on defense. Sharpe and Toumani had decent games and it showed up in their plus/minuses. Scoot recovered and had a decent second half. That's about it, isn't it?

Someone here put up a comparison between Ant and Brogdon. It overwhelmingly favored Brogdon as the better overall player. Ant had some higher volume wins, but Brodgon was far more efficient, a much higher average shooter, a better defender, and a better passer. It's like the whose the greatest Blazer discussion. Dame is the best scorer, but not sure he was the best overall player. Defense, rebounding, blocks, steals, assists....all make a complete player.

Hopefully Ant gets to the level of even where Brogdon was last year when he was one of a very few 50/40/90 guys in the history of the NBA.

I think Dame is the best Blazer of all time as well.

That's easy for you to say...

What is the difference between your "coached by chauncey" and "coached by the best alternative" (or Bud) win totals?

u really think its the coaching and not

the personnel?
Gotta have a coach that teaches young guys to play the right way, win or lose.

but I mean didnt Zubac destoy scoot in that 1st q?Its all Billups fault? Billups is so incompetent he served Zubac up with some softballs? cuz that seems disingenuous if u ask me.. it seemed to me like Zubac fought hard n just was better tonight, n deserves credit.. they sure were more prepared, as ud expect an mvp winning vet point guard like russ, to be vs a rookie starter in his debut..

we need to fire billups cuz he didnt have his rookie starting pg prepared to outduel the former mvp in game 1?

cuz yall seem to be trying to squeeze blood from a stone!!!
You don’t get it. People aren’t criticizing Billups for the loss. They’re criticizing him for the lack of any system on either end of the court.

Shaedon seems to have come a long long way on both ends of the court in the last year. Ant is light years ahead of where he was when Chauncey took over, both as a scorer obviously but even though he sucks on defense he is out of position far less often.

If you're not seeing the development then you're not looking. Chauncey hasn't been given the personnel at any point since he's been here to put in place systems that would look good. Completely unbalanced rosters and now a youth rebuild with a few vet holdovers who just need to maintain their value until they're traded.

I'll be looking to see Shaedon take the same kind of huge leap forward this season he did last season. I'll be looking to see Scoot make huge huge gains from where we just saw him to the end of the season. I also want to see Ayton playing the best he's ever played and not regressing. I'd like to see some of our young forwards make big gains too but I don't have as good of an idea of what they (Kris, Toumani, Jabari and Rayan) are capable of. I've got a pretty good idea for what Shaedon and Ayton can do but what I think Scoot is capable of is absolutely just an assumption, it's just a far more educated assumption than what I can even make for our young forwards.

The most...disappointing? thing about the game last night was Ayton. Since it's just a single game I ain't too worried, but dudes gotta show up more than 4 points.

Doesn't have to score 18, but needs more than 4. I'll settle for 13ish and 10 boards, and being engaged.

the '99 Blazers?? You'd have to bust out a Nintendo 64 to remember that roster. Generic All-Star NBA cartridge with Keith Van Horn on the cover.
Don’t need to look it up. Here you go:

Damon
Rider
Walt Williams
Grant
Sabonis
Cato
Sheed
Augmon
Jimmy Jackson
Greg Anthony
Jermaine

Ant is the best player on the roster right now.
I thought he looked pretty good while watching but at the end of the night his stats didn't look too hot, and he had the worst plus minus on the team.

Terrible foul trouble. I think Ayton is going to understand just how tough it is to get calls playing for Portland. He literally had 4 fouls in the 2nd quarter. What's crazier is that Billups let that happen.

Plus Minus of the guy who started and played against their best players during the most meaningful minutes of the game seems like the reason people dislike stats.

How about 6 for 14 shooting?
Another one that might not tell the story? I don’t know? I don’t think he played poorly. I think Sharpe looked pretty good. I think Scoot is very raw still. I think Ayton would have been better if not in foul trouble.
Those are my takes without stats.

he played with 3 fouls for a 'while'.

is it that billups feels so good about playing RWIII? (a guy who should probably be on a minutes restriction to start the year)

or is it that billups was playing this one like we were going to get blown out?

In my opinion Thybulle can be traded. And why start him? Might as well start Sharpe at SF now.
My take on that is why trade him? Just let Sharpe start and keep Thybule as a solid rotation guy?
He seems like a team first guy. Not sure he’d mind coming off the bench.

I actually had some of those same thoughts? Not sure but it’s a good question.

Yeah... as we all know, single game +/- is not a good indicator of individual play. I didn't think Ant was great last night though. I thought the best players last night were either Sharpe or Brogdon.
