Trade Nurk Little and picks to Chicago for DeRozen. Sign Naz Reid for the MLE and Meyers Leonard for the vet min in free agency.

Dame Scoot Mays
Ant Sharpe
DeRozen Thybulle Murray Rubert
Grant Watford Walker
Reid Meyers Eubanks

Defense might be an issue but we can lead the league in scoring especially when Meyers brings all the swi3hes. Goal is to have everyone super rested, limit minutes, and putting a ton of effort on defense so we can get to a top15 defense.

The news about the Blazers cutting Watford surprised a lot of people. He was a solid, young backup on a good contract. Is this move tied to future moves that will significantly upgrade the roster?

Here's the roster as it currently stands:

Quite a few holes, and still lots of youth. Here are the free agents that the Blazers have cap exceptions with:

I only count 10 roster spots filled. 11 if you count Thybulle. Gapping holes at starting PF, and backup C.

What will the next move be? How will the Blazers fill the remaining 4-5 spots?

Do people think Sharpe will be our starting 3? It would solve a lot of problems.

Love your pictures and list of this.

Winslow I'd remove from your picture, he's not medically cleared and won't get any offers.

BAE was used last on Steve Blake? Its not going to be used with the Blazers again in the tax ballpark.

Grant and Thybulle could be listed in the same place, both are PDX free agents. I fee like the depth chart should have Dame and Grant or neither as they're really a package.

If the Blazers keep all 4 guards I'd say theres a legit chance of it.

I'm good with it long term - only immediate hesitation I have is usually young players don't move to a bigger position until they put on more muscle, Durant played SG as a rookie, so the Blazers might want to protect such a young key cornerstone player from contact.

We would be going really small with Dame, Scoot, Shaedon and Jerami... with slow ass Nurk in the middle. We have tried going really small and quick around Nurk before and it hasn't looked great. That being said I think so much is up in the air right now with our roster that it's hard to say anything for sure.

I'm hoping for Shaedon's development we don't play him up a position because I want him to have the best chance to succeed.

Durant was a pussy who couldn't lift 180 (coach didn't have him lift in college)
Scoot is a truck, and ready right now.
Sharpe is somewhere in the middle, so it's a tough one to call.

where did you find out Winslow isn't medically cleared? I haven't heard that anywhere.

Had a major surgery after our season was done. I believe Hoopsjock mentioned it on the Blazers uprise live stream last night. Also Marang has discussed this as well.

It looks like Eubanks is off the market -

The list of free agents that the Blazers have exceptions for is down to 2. Just Grant and Winslow.

10 players under contract:
- D Lillard
- A Simons
- S Sharpe
- J Nurkic
- S Henerson
- N Little
- J Walker
- K Johnson
- R Rupert
- K Murray

1 player restricted that the Blazers can match offers:
- M Thybulle

How will the Blazers fill the remaining 4 spots?
- J Grant?
- MLE?
- Vet Minimum?
- Lopsided trade?

I believe Badji and Butler rec'd Qualifying Offers.
Thanks. Good catch.

I also see that Jeenathan Williams is still active, with a team option of 8/1/23. It looks like he's on the summer league team also (as "Nate" Williams).

Here's the updated roster -

upload_2023-6-30_18-47-12.png

Updated roster count:
12 roster spots taken. (with one being team option - J Williams, 8/1/23)
1 restricted FA (M Thybulle).
2-3 roster spots left.
- MLE? (~$12.0M non-tax, ~$5.0M tax)
- BAE? (~$4.5M)
- Vet Minimum?
- Lopsided trade? (G Payton Exception, $8.3M, J Hart Exception, $2.6M)

Out of the 12 players signed by the Blazer (plus 2 QO), 9 are listed on the summer league team.

The only players on the roster that are not listed on the summer league team are:
- Lillard
- Simons
- Grant
- Nurkic
- Little

Does any other team have 64% of their regular season roster on the summer league roster? I'm guessing this isn't what Dame was thinking when he asked for some veteran help.

Doesn't seem to be putting a lot of 'veterans' around Dame.

Wow interesting stat.

I'd expect Thybulle and MLE to be two more.

But Blazers need a couple vet minimum 3rd stringers that can fill in when needed. Also need them to just set the tone in practice and off the court. I'd expect Williams to be cut. Keon might be shipped out as well.

Can't imagine Williams isn't cut either. Keon seems like trade filler.

So,....

additions:
Scoot, Kris Murray, Rupert

subtractions:
Reddish, Knox, Eubanks, Watford

Not counting Butler, Badji, Winslow, Skyler,...

The good news:
Feels like we got a lot better

The bad news:
Still suck at defense
Still suck at rebounding
Still unbalanced roster/No high-quality starting SF/C is sketchy

I'm feeling good, but also that we have a lot of work to do.

p.s. let me know if I forgot anyone significant in the additions or subtractions

Well we also had Winslow and Hart playing great at the start of last year and still had a losing record. So I don't think this roster has an expectation to be above .500 unless Sharpe/Scoot become immediate stars which seems very unlikely.

Kind of depressing when you think of the talk at the end of the season or lottery. Jaylen Brown, Bridges, Siakam, OG rumors. Or the Cam Johnson / Draymond Green rumors a few days ago.

I love the Scoot addition long term, but it's not going to help much if at all in 2023-24.

If you told me what our off-season would look like that leads to Dame asking out it would probably look a bit like this.
