So I’m really curious.

Does the team think that

Murray > Watford

Badji > Eubanks

We are losing players and it doesn’t seem like we are replacing them. There is no way Dame is happy.

Tired of people talking about what Lillard wants.

Well we also had Winslow and Hart playing great at the start of last year and still had a losing record. So I don't think this roster has an expectation to be above .500 unless Sharpe/Scoot become immediate stars which seems very unlikely.

Kind of depressing when you think of the talk at the end of the season or lottery. Jaylen Brown, Bridges, Siakam, OG rumors. Or the Cam Johnson / Draymond Green rumors a few days ago.

I love the Scoot addition long term, but it's not going to help much if at all in 2023-24.

If you told me what our off-season would look like that leads to Dame asking out it would probably look a bit like this.
I respect your opinion, but we started the season 9-3, and was 1st in the West.
You don't know that Scoot won't help next year. If Scoot was Tim Duncan, would you say the same?
Don't care any more what Dame wants.

Still don't care if Dame is happy.

Tim Duncan was a power forward and he stepped onto a team that needed a power forward. Scoot is a point guard and he was drafted by a team with one of the best point guards in the game.

How likely do you think it is that Scoot Henderson is an all-star as a rookie, ala Tim Duncan?

Luka Doncic wasn't even an all-star as a rookie, fwiw.

TD was a center who moved to PF because the Spurs had a pretty decent one in The Admiral. I'm sure we'll make it work, too.

Tim is widely considered by many to be the best power forward of all time.

Really? You don't say?

At Wake he played center and was a back to the basket player. He evolved to fit what the Spurs needed to work with Robinson. Scoot and Dame can do the same.

Murray is more talented than Watford. Of course, not as experienced yet, but not that far behind.
To play actual, real game center, Badji is better even though Eubanks worked his ass off. 5" taller, 30+ lbs heavier, much larger wingspan even though raw as hell.

So is this where we're at right now

Dame/Scoot
Simons/Sharpe/Keon
Thybulle/Nas/Rupert
Grant/Murray/Walker
Nurk/Badji/JBJ

If we can move Simons and sign Plumlee, that would help balance things out. I could see us also making a play for Oubre.

Dame/Scoot
Sharpe/Thybulle/Keon
Oubre/Nas/Rupert
Grant/Murray/Walker
Nurk/Plumlee/Badji

That's a semi-balanced roster. Not in love with trying to straddle two timelines, and I don't think this team is good enough to do anything more than maybe the 8th seed. Best case and really the only way this team does more than an 8th seed is if Sharpe and Scoot pop. I'd love to get a lockdown defender at three. Let Dame/Sharpe/Grant be the scorers. I wonder if we see Thybulle as our small forward. Slide him in at small forward. Give Sharpe his backup minutes.

PG - Dame 34 / Scoot 14
SG - Sharpe 30 / Scoot 18
SF - Thybulle 35 / Sharpe 5 / Nas 8
PF - Grant 35 / Murray 13
C - Nurk 28 / Plumlee 20

Dame - 34 minutes
Scoot - 32 minutes
Sharpe - 35 minutes
Thybulle - 35 minutes
Grant - 35 minutes
Nurk - 28 minutes
Plumlee - 20 minutes
Murray - 13 minutes
Nas - 8 minutes

That's a 9 man rotation. We can shave a few minutes off Grant or Thybulle as needed. I think Keon/Nas/Rupert/Walker are the guys who sit at the end of the bench.

Not sure WHAT they think, but this is what they SHOULD think

Cronin sitting on his ass doing jack shit.
Any of the basement dwellers on here could have done at least as good a job as him this offseason.

At this point I expect this shit:
Dame (35) / Scoot (13)
Ant (34) / Scoot (14)
Sharpe (32) / Nas or Rupert or Murray or Thybulle or shitty signing (16)
Grant (35) / Murray (13)
Nurk (30) / Shitty signing (18)

Poverty franchise.
Stuck in mediocrity.

Ok.... so....

PG: Scoot/Simons?
SG: Simons?/Thybulle?
SF: Sharpe?/Rupert?
PF: Grant/Murray
C: ????

Not sure what our rotation looks like on day one, but I'm trying to get minutes for these players:

Scoot
Sharpe
Rupert
Murray
Walker
Little
Thybulle
Keon

I want to see if Keon/Little/Walker are worth our time. If they aren't, you move on.

No reason to bring back Thybulle now.

It looks like Matisse will become the Blazers highest paid backup -

Here's the roster as it currently stands:

upload_2023-7-6_9-28-56.png

By my count:
- 13 players signed (with 1 team option - J Williams, 8/1/23)
- 2 QO (J Butler, J Badji, most likely 2-way contracts)

Blazers still have a few cap exceptions available:
- MLE (~$12.4M, ~$5.0M tax)
- BAE (~$4.5M)
- 2 trade exceptions (~$8.3M G Payton, ~$2.6M J Hart)
- Early Bird J Winslow

I talked with my season ticket rep yesterday and informed her that I'm not interested in the Blazers trading Lillard for scraps and seeing this team lottery bound for multiple years to come. I want a mix of a few young prospects/picks, and perhaps a few solid starters. I'm pretty confident she will pass my thoughts along to Cronin.

He might actually start...actually I won't be surprised if he does sliding Shaedon to the 2 and being the stopper with the first unit and a corner 3 guy as a 5th option on offense....Rupert will more than likely back him up.

The Blazers waive Jeenathan Williams.

The roster now stands at 12, with 3 open spots.

Of course, lots of changes are in the future with the Lillard (potential) trade looming. Blazers could really use a solid backup center, a starting small forward, and a backup point guard. Let's see how well Cronin does filling out and balancing this roster.

I'd like to see Badji cut. Keon I'd like cut as well but they're going to at least wait until the deadline if they can get out of his deal. Hoping they don't pick up his option for next season.

Other than that it seems like the potential Dame trade is holding up all the 12-15 man activity we normally have. Pretty likely we add a couple rostered player in a deal with Dame making so much. I'd expect we get a Dame deal prior to camp but who knows.

Will be interesting if this goes to camp just how they'll fill out the back of the roster, and if Dame stays at home or participates. I'd probably expect a bunch of non guaranteed and 10 day contracts. I think you can have nonguaranteed deals that are paid game by game until January or something at which point they become fully guaranteed.

So based on the fact that we have three spot, and obviously Dame would be going out, we could take back Lowry, Jovic, Jaquez and maybe Martin along with their picks.

Jaquez is tradeable in several days.
