Think Kuzma is all raw stats and no impact. But he is a UFA.

I think a possibly cheaper wing who has better advanced stats and has won before is my S&T option: Cam Johnson

I feel like Kyle is a little more versatile and a better passer. Not sure how they matchup defensively though. I'd be okay with either.

If you’re going to want to keep Dame here the Blazers are going to have to overpay and not be so cheap. It’s also probably going to take more than just Grant and if Grant waiting on Dame things could get a bit dicey.

Phoenix can't do a S&T because they are over the hard-cap apron (and they don't have assets to trade).
They have the tax-MLE this season (for ~$5M), but that is the most they can offer Irving.

There's no realistic way to get Irving on the Suns before the season starts.

I thought the 2nd apron losing the tax MLE restriction begins this summer in two days?

Doesn't sound at all like a guy getting ready to force his way to Sacramento or Portland.

Yeah I almost subscribe to the idea a Portland dinner with Dame and Draymond the other night could have been Draymond trying to convince Dame to demand a trade to Golden State.

Any appetite for Dillion Brooks?

He brings a defensive mindedness and toughness. If you can sell him on taking a minimal number of shots, I'd be open to it.

Yeah I don't want Kuzma on this team with our scoring below average defense guards. If we had defensive guys all over the roster and needed offense he might make sense. Even without Dame we have way more offense than D. Cam fits much better.

The dinner was debunked. Dwight was full of it.

I love the idea of giving him the vet minimum to have a redeeming year. He probably signs for more dollars in Houston or some young team that wants to get a vet with edge for one season. I wouldn't give him the full MLE with his history so I doubt he is available for the vet minimum.

The Blazers have to be careful though. You don't want to overpay and then it not be good enough for Dame, and him ask out. I don't think that's happening, but you have make sure that if your overpaying dudes, Dame is staying.

I believe that's next year. The new CBA is phased in, as I understand it.

I read the MLE being lost to 2nd apron teams was the one part in effect in a few days but all the other restrictions are summer of 2024. Not sure if that was accurate, if I get a minute maybe I read some of those 600 pages.

Yeah we trade Ant for a poor return, get stuck with Grant overpaid for 5 years, and Dame demands out is by far the worst scenario possible and sadly I don't trust the Blazers management to avoid that situation. Hope I'm wrong.

I haven't been able to find a rollout schedule. I have been coming through the document but it's not easy lol

That would be a disaster. We would have Grant to trade out, but it's not tenable. Most teams aren't going to want an overpayed Grant. We are out Ant for a player we tried to bring in to entice Dame. No Bueno if he doesn't buy in to it and stay.

The Blazers need to keep Dame in loop, which I'm sure they are, every step. They need show him, this is the guys we want to trade for/sign, is this good for you, before pulling the trigger. Though, you could sign some guys that could fit either way.

50-50 Portland trades Ant or Nurk, maybe 60-40

20-80 they trade Dame.

50-50 they trade Little

70-30 they use at least the tax-MLE

40-60 they use the Payton TPE

handle those odds carefully, they came directly from my colon
Speaking of colon…. DO NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THE SUBJECT.,..NSFW….

Its as difficult to read as the US tax code. Theres a reason we have companies translate all of that stuff to simple basic English. NBA teams must have someone who does this, I've never seen that publicly available though. Larry Coon always had his website/FAQ that was pretty good but I imagine it will take him or someone else awhile to get this up.

So you're good with 9 minutes a game for Scoot then?

Scoot is 19 years old and we have control over him for 9 years. There's no reason to sell potentially exceedingly low on a potentially much higher-value asset like Ant just to immediately open minutes for Scoot.

It's certainly a situation that will need to resolve itself eventually, but taking cents on the dollar is probably not the right approach...

https://www.si.com/nba/hornets/nba-...oncerted-effort-to-force-portland-to-trade-up

Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer went on the Basketball Illuminati Podcast follow the NBA Draft. During the appearance, Jake discussed about the confusion regarding the Hornets at the top of the draft.

"Can I say one thing about the Scoot, Brandon stuff?" said Jake Fischer on the Basketball Illuminati Podcast. "There definitely was word Thursday morning. I got a text from Houston. And Portland had been checking in with me throughout the draft about what Charlotte was trying to do here. There was definitely a late rumbling, let's say, sent from Charlotte out to other actors in the NBA world. Like 'We're still considering Scoot here."

"I do think that was a last ditch effort to try to get Portland to trade up from three to two to take Scoot. I think that's where all this came from. I don't think this was done [with] betting markets, conspiracy, blah, blah, blah. I think the Hornets tried to get a little savvy... And as I tweeted out, as I wrote in my book, Mitch Kupchak back in 2015, when he was GM of the Lakers, had the No. 2 pick. D'Angelo Russell and Jahlil Okafor were there two top choices. And they refused to tell two pretty powerful agents, Aaron Mintz at CAA for D'Angelo Russell, and Bill Duffy now at WME for Jahlil Okafor, they just refused to tell either side what they were going to do."

Fuck the hornets

Yeah you would think the Blazers are going to run this by Dame. It seems like the deadline is probably tomorrow or Saturday though. If we see an announcement of Grant elsewhere then we know the result is Dame asking out.

If Grant is resigned I'd hope the Blazers have a commitment from Dame. Now if its a good value deal I guess it could be fine either way, but I certainly don't want Grant for $30+ million if Dame is gone.

No Grant announcement either means the team is moving on and Grant is evaluating what other spot to pick - or the Blazers are trying to get the other requests from Dame done and everyone is awaiting on that being complete before the Blazers/Grant/Dame to all commit.

Totally agree. The odds all 4 players are healthy at the same time might not even be that high, Sharpe can swing to the SF some. Scoot and Sharpe don't need 30+ mpg in their first big seasons, its fine for a few months or longer of having this quad group.

Yeah I agree eventually the team needs to make a move, but its more important the move nets a key rotational level player in the front court, or picks that could one day lead to that, than just doing "addition by subtraction" to have it resolved immediately.

I am not seeing any POR rumors at all for FA signings. I don't like that. Should at least be some rumblings?? I just am getting super concerned Billups runs back the same starting 5 as last season.

Yeah he hasn't updated his site yet.

I'm not sure how we can have the same starting 5 since Josh Hart is now gone? After that it was a shit show of tanking lineups.

I'd be fine with Dame Ant Sharpe Grant Nurk and Scoot off the bench. Ideally Barnes or something off the bench too for the MLE. It would be way more exciting than 10 years of no changes Olshey trotted out.

If there wasn't all this Dame uncertainty, management end of season comments, and draft day wet dreams of Bridges/Brown/Siakam etc addition I think most fans would be very excited to see 2nd year Sharpe and Rookie Scoot join the team.

Not only will you lose Scoot in 9 years, you'll lose Damian before next season. I wouldn't call trading Ant for Kuzma selling for cents on the dollar. They're pretty comparable values imo.
