Game Thread 2024-25 GAME #15 - BLAZERS @ THUNDER - NOVEMBER 20, 2024 - 5:00 PM PST - KATU - CHARGE - BV

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

I don't necessarily think that Chauncey's late game management was genius or anything but he's not the one that showed absolutely no care for the ball. We turned over this game to the Thunder... yeah they forced some of them but we gave a lot of possessions away.
We did technically lose our starting point guard while the coach benched our starting center for no discernible reason. I bet that contributed.

Yeah that contributed to the loss but there was no greater contributor to the loss than our lack of discipline taking care of the rock.

Students with poor discipline are a reflection on the teacher. This loss is on Billups.
That's so weak. These young players turning the ball over so much is not a reflection of this coach, it's a reflection of where they are at in their careers.

Another fun game to watch!
In it right up until the end. It is looking like Cronin needs to find trades for Ant and Ayton asap.
We need a backup center who can play the same kind of game as Clingan, so we don’t look like two different teams out there. He doesn’t have to be great but someone with a semblance of a long armed defensive game.

Maybe so. Do you want them growing up with this teacher?
I really don't know. I understand the concept that Chauncey can't seem to get this roster to execute in game but what is this roster's make up? I think Shaedon is developing well and it sounds like Chauncey is trying to push him out front, I don't know if any coach could have Scoot doing better than he is, even if that's disappointing, I love the way that Chauncey uses Tou, I think Chauncey has put Clingan in situations to be very successful in the minutes he's given him and when he has played Rupert looks like he's developing at light speed. Unfortunately when Ant is around he plays outside of the offense and Jerami seems to follow him..

Overall I don't think this team has enough talent to try and win now with some of the talent at the top of the upcoming draft class and I don't think Chauncey is teaching bad individual skills or game management. So I do not mind Chauncey being their teacher as far as talent development goes. Chauncey doesn't seem to be the guy that we'll need when this team is ready to seriously win and I doubt he'll be here when that time comes.

Good post, thanks for taking the time on it. I hope Cronin can make the call when the time is right (a bit too early) rather than when I fear (a bit too late).

There is no good reason that Chauncey should get another contract. I just hope this team hires a consultant to perform the next coaching search because I don't trust anyone in this organization to make the right call on that one.

I would like to see us give RWIII that opportunity personally. Though we should keep our eyes open for upgrades. I think we could go with him for the next 1-3 years. With Duop or a pickup.
I think RWIII’s game is similar enough to KlingKong’s that they could come in and out without much shift to the offense or defense.

Look, I like RWIII, great story. But he’s not a defender. He’s a rebounder. He’s early career Zach Randolph: a great garbage man. He doesn’t play the same game as DC and we can’t play the same way with him in the game.

I understand the Blazers are thinking of having a former camera man as their next head coach.

“He sees the game like nobody else”.

It seems pretty clear the coach is able to communicate and get through to the players. I think he would be just fine for the future as a motivator, etc.
i also think he has the team playing better defense than I've seen in years and that is not all because of size and length.
If his offensive schemes are of concern, he can bring in elite offensive minds to assist him.
Some coaches in all sports coach in this manner.
I would like to give more time with this team he is developing.
If we aren't playoff bound in two years, replace him.

For not being a defender he did a hell of a con job to make an All NBA defensive team.

That or maybe he is a great defender.

Maybe he’s a good defensive coach (not that he could transform any of the previous coach’s players) but his substitution patterns are baffling to me.

Was he a Blazer at the time? Was this before or after his knees exploded? Can he be relied on for more than 40 games a season?

He looked slow and hesitant to move tonight. He’s not our future. He’s barely our present.

I could be wrong, but I think he is still experimenting.
I am not sold on him as much as I just don't feel he has had a fair shake with a healthy, balanced roster until now.

Nah, they are going to do a contest to pick a lucky fan as the next head coach.

I'm not really sure what to think of this game. It's an unusual mix of good, bad, and ugly.

It was very impressive we hung with OKC until the last few minutes.

Yeah we had a lot of turnovers, but OKC is the best defensive team in the league and they specialize in forcing turnovers, so that was kind of expected. We're not going up against this defense most games this year. We should make up for the turnovers with rebounding advantage and free throws. We did OK with that but obviously need to improve.

Our defense seemed great at times but OKC also missed a lot of threes they can make so I'm not sure how lucky we got with them having a bit of a cold shooting night.

Camara is amazing defensively, he legit might be the best defender in the league.

Scoot poor 3pt shooting really hurts the half court offense as the opponent packs the paint. He is legit getting the Westbrook treatment where he's being dated to shoot and he can't take advantage. Either we need 4 shooters with him and Scoot just drives when this happens or Scoot needs more time on the bench.

Speaking of PG Banton came back down to earth.

Against a great defensive team like this we really could use an offensive option that can create decent half court looks. It would be nice if Ant could fill that role, but I'm not sure how you do that without his terrible defense and ball hogging nature.

We had a ton of threes go down at various stretches of this game, if we has shot our season averages this probably is a 30 point loss.

This opponent was in the 2nd of a B2B, and without arguably their 2nd best player. Even with the nice 3 game win streak I think this shows we are a long ways from being close to the contending teams.

Up next is the biggest Blazers game since the Denver playoffs, if we can beat Houston in the cup game.

Go Blazers!
