Grant is good as a role player 3rd best player/option, who can occasionally be relied on to score in bunches.

Not sure about Deni's role yet.

Agreed on Grant, he has seemed to fit better lately. Kinda overpriced for a 3rd option role player but not as opposed to keeping him as I have been in the past.

Ant & Ayton, yeah, would prefer them gone but don't want to take a bad deal to have them gone. Expensive guys to have sit the pine but I think we are a better team if they do.

Perhaps give them some run on the backup team; just not heavy minutes and especially not when it matters.

I don't know, after watching our free throw shooting the last few games, having a 92% free throw shooter when the game matters sounds good to me. Especially a clutch free-throw shooter like Simons. No one else on the team comes close. (except Williams and Walker who haven't shot many).

The problem with Ant is not his free-throw shooting ability, its the seeming "I'm-like-Dame" complex he has of trying to personally take over a game at the end and then costing us the game. Bad shots, bad decisions.

Nah, rather not have him on the floor a crunch time. Team-begone! This is Ant-Time!

Ick.

Just for discussions' sake, how is that different than what folks around here, as well as Chauncey, have been asking to see more of out of Sharpe? Last season, Ant was identified by the Blazers as their best player and encouraged to try to take over games. This year, it seems to be Sharpe.

Disagree. Ant's been getting Ant shots, he's just been missing. He SHOULD be coming around.

As for end of game, IT'S BILLUPS TELLING ANT TO ISO. That's why it's so exciting to see Sharpe doing it. If Billups tells Ant to iso instead of Sharpe at the end of games with Sharpe back, then Billups needs to go.

Not buying that. He does it when he is asked to do it. In the last year, fans have complained that Grant, Ayton, Simons, and even Brogdon have all hogged the ball in crunch time. You need multiple options or the defense will stop it.

This year you have Sharpe and Simons and that is it when you need a basket. Grant IMO is the 3rd option. There is no one else who can do it. Maybe Banton??

And if we are up and the other team is going to intentionally foul, I want the 92% FT shooter on the floor. Everyone else will choke.

Kind of where I'm at right now. The contract is fine. in a couple years it will be even better. He does exactly what he is supposed to do and he is a veteran presence. He doesn't bring drama and is a decent all around guy. He was the one last night to take the shot on Caruso when that needed to happen. He seems fine with the rebuild because he knows he is getting paid. He guards 1-4 and he does it well. Long good defender that can get his own shot.

Grant might be exactly what this team needs right now.

Straight up. Grant has fit in seamlessly with the youngsters. Anyone still wanting him traded before anyone else isn't seeing what I'm seeing on the court.

I agree Grant is the best on the court, but he has far the worst contract or anyone on the team. So that is the reason for him ideally being the first one we try to get rid of.

You speak in dollars, not sense.

If we are to become a better, more cohesive team, fit matters.

The past few games have shown that Ant/Ayton don’t but that Grant can and does.

I have found myself surprised that I am no longer opposed to the idea of keeping him.

Trade the misfits and evaluate from there.

Grant would fit well on a lot of teams, especially as a 3rd/4th option. A long wing with good length and 2-way and 3&D skills. His rebounding flaw is covered by the rebounding of Camara and Avdija. Blazers don't really need him though, at least not for the next 2 or 3 years. He should be shopped IMO, but not as vigorously as Simons and Ayton should be shopped. Those two should be dumped for whatever. Grant should only be moved for a solid return and cap relief

Well stated. I am not opposed to trading him, I just don't think he should be the top priority.

We also have Thybulle. And his production can be easily replicated with some combo of Murray/Rupes.

Yep. I just gave up the game thread during games.

It is nice to see such a fathering of fandom, however I fear my path will be much the same as yours.

IMO, takes way less time to scan others' posts than to generate my own.

For me, it does take less time. However in that time, I've missed plays. Then i read about the plays i missed. Then I go back and watch the plays I missed. Then I have to catch back up in the game thread.
It’s a viscous cycle for those of us lacking in social forum posting skills.

The thing is his contract isn't really bad at all and will only get better over the next couple years. The Blazers are going to have top spend at least some money. Right now they are not spending much at all. His contract will not effect signing the rookies that we are getting and the extensions they will be getting.

That is opinion. I think Ants and Ayton’s may be worse. JG will be fine in two years.
Ant is a 6th man at best. Very limited defensively and seems to have lost some offensive touch but is paid almost like an all star. He needs to go so the ball can be in Scoot and Sharpes hands.

Ant is the 30th highest paid guard in the NBA. I don’t think his contract situation is as bad as many think.

That makes it not terrible, but how many of the other teams would he start for? If the answer is close to none, then he shouldn't be paid among the top-60 guards. (There are certainly bench guards around the league playing better than Anfernee.)

I believe he’s the 61st highest paid player in the game. I happy with his contract.

Good for you, I am not happy with his play and fit fit on this team, time to go if we can even trade him for an expiring contract and maybe a 2nd.

He's certainly not ranked that high, so that makes him overpaid by most accounts. But...maybe I should criticize Ant more often, because he finally showed some passion tonight!

I showed him your posts about him in the lobby this afternoon….. maybe it fired him up?
