Watching last night's game answered (to me) what we need to add to this core, given the common view that we have 3 strong centers, 2 strong forwards (3 if you count Grant going forward), and 2 high-ceiling guards (3 if you count Ant going forward). We seem to be set at the forward and PG positions that the upcoming draft is loaded with, but we lack an alpha scorer.
The answer? A Devin Booker clone. Someone constantly moving, sticking shots regardless of how many touches, never bogging down the ball movement, and playing plus defense. He would be an amazing fit with this group. To some extent, that's what we hope Sharpe becomes, except that he seems to lack the aggressive mentality part. It's not Ant, because his shooting swings wildly between 10% and 90% to average out around 40%, and that doesn't work as the needed consistent threat.
Obviously, Booker isn't going anywhere. But, Beal is basically Booker-light and he's the most available player in the league. His contract is awful and his health is always a concern, but I could see this group going on a playoff run this year with him added. (And I bet he has a positive view of the roster after the past two games, so his no-trade clause shouldn't be an issue.) Not that I think he's the one we should actually target, but it's worth considering if there's no one else on the horizon who fills that niche.
