Missed opportunity for the SALTY SUNDAY thread. This is not a manic Monday, and Sunday was not a fun day. Thank god this shit is over for another year.
I don't quite get all of the angst over the All Star Game. It's an exhibition game, not an NBA game. Sure, it would be fun to see an actual game between the league's top stars, but that's never going to happen. The league and the players don't want to see someone get injured playing in the ASG, so matador defense is the rule of the day. I agree that the game used to be more competitive in earlier days where you'd at least get a 4th quarter battle. Now it's just uncontested dunks and guys jacking three point shots. If you're okay enjoying it for what it is, watch. If it upsets your sense of purity of the game, don't.
He's not wrong...

This is a copout. The only real injury from the weekend that I could find, was Dwade broke Black Mambas nose and Deron Williams pulling a groin during the skills challenge that kept him out for 2 weeks. The MJ era, they played D in the game. I want to see who is the best of the best. That was the original intent of the weekend and had been that way for a LONG time. The awards given out this weekend mean nothing compared to years past. All star MVP? Sure, cool Dame got it, but it has an asterisk to me. Towns got 50! Since when does playing some defense mean injuries? Players rest more than ever before during the season. It's all just become soft and the injury excuse is the epitome of that.
I'm not saying play 88'-93' Pistons defense, but the matador D is for kids. Give SOME effort at least....Or they should just take turns handing each other the ball and shoot it. Why bother crossing half court when you dont have the ball?
I think there are alot of older All Star MVPs rolling over in their NBA graves over this "new era".
I'm sure Barkley cares.
Anthony Edwards gets quoted speaking the truth that nobody wants to go to the all star game and compete.
Fact is half the league doesn’t want to compete for quite a bit of the season. You want to fix the All Star game? Fix the season first! Reduce the amount of games played so they count more and this will change the entire outlook of the NBA.
The All Star game is not the problem. Greed is the problem.
NBA completely sells-out the AS weekend to corporate sponsors, prices-out fans, and makes everything take 2x as long as it should.
NBA shocked Pikachu face when the game has no spirit, fans are quiet, and the broadcast is lame.

Yeah IMO it starts with the product that the NBA is made out of. The season creates the Playoff teams. The Playoff teams create the championship.Yep, these players get paid millions then don't give a shit.

If you make every game much more meaningful the players will be playing. Again this is just my opinion but I don't see a lack of television revenue from the NFL? I see a huge problem with MLB and them having 162 games.
The NBA would be better IMO with 50-60 games and a shorter season that players took more seriously. A 5 game losing streak for a 50 game season is a big deal.
Bottom line it seems to me that the All Star game is just another media event that doesn't really matter to all the players. Some players though seem to try to at least put on a show. Curry was doing a bunch of trick shots for the crowd. Obviously Lillard decided to defend his 3 point shooting title and I honestly think he was trying to make sure he got that MVP trophy.

I saw a Windhorst video on ESPN and he says Adam Silver wasn’t amused by the 200 points “effort” either.
Silver's annoyance at what took place was clearly on display.
"And to the Eastern Conference All-Stars, you scored the most points," Silver said flatly. "Well ... congratulations."
It was a fitting end to an evening that did nothing to stop the discussions over what the future of the NBA's marquee midseason event should look like moving forward. The NBA threw its weight behind making this game a priority for its players all season, with both Silver and Hall of Famer Joe Dumars, the NBA's executive vice president and head of basketball operations, repeatedly saying that getting more effort out of the All-Stars was a priority.
I saw a Windhorst video on ESPN and he says Adam Silver wasn’t amused by the 200 points “effort” either. Windhorst says the solution is to pay the players, presumably with the winners getting more than the losers.
I really... REALLY enjoyed Guy Fieri's face 267 times during all-star weekend.
care less if I never see his face on an nba broadcast
care less if I never see his face on an nba broadcastStatement was more about how meaningful games are and yes the two sports don't really compare. Obviously pitchers take games off.I'll push back a touch on the MLB. they usually will have scheduled days off for players, usually once a month or once every other month. So barring injury, I'd say the average starter probably plays 90% of the games.
Can't say the same for the NBA. Lol. Though the NBA is obviously a much more rigorous sport.

Some peoples vanity is out of this world. One thing to see an X nba player like Walton around and on the tv a lot, but this guy? A food taste tester? I couldn't (for you @barfocare less if I never see his face on an nba broadcast
No question September can be fun if they are in the race. All 162 games are meaningful in the sense of playoff positioning.
For example, Seattle blew a 10 run lead to the Kansas City Royals. Missed the playoffs by a game.
But I'm just being pedantic in defense of my favorite sport lol I understand your overall point.
Extra point-per-shot for anyone who's made 3 consecutive buckets for his team without missing? Could be interesting...NBA Jam Tournament Edition style

Well baseball is different in a bunch of ways. You either love it or hate it. Not much in between. It's interesting that a sport with half the games people don't take seriously until after the trade deadline.
Sports viewers have short attention span, don't we? Lol
Move ASG to actual midpoint of season. Give HCA in the Finals to the conference that wins. Earlier in season, more teams believe they have a shot. Also, this would motivate the coaches.
