Our man defense has been really poor all season. Guys getting beat 1v1 all the time
This.

It's been a problem keeping dribblers out of the paint.

It's been a bigger problem when we've had our depth depleted to almost nothing and haven't been able to press. I think those two things are related, but it's still been concerning.

Man anyone who thinks we are a good team is nuts, at best we are a .500 club right now. That’s not a knock on our guys that reality. We have a ton of key players out yet we are in every game but one this year.

I will take this season for what it is, we are young team trying to learn how to win. With our lack of depth we can’t play that pressing defense that made us different. We have like 5 rotation players out and Jo PG tonight so yeah losing sucks but gaining experience is huge.

Lastly our schedule has been a nightmare and doesn’t get any easier. Regardless I will look forward to all the ups and downs and watching them grow!

DILLON JONES!
We already have Dillon Jones.

We're actually talking about replacing a player who won't turn 22 until the end of the season with a player who's already 24 and part of our organization? Who has averaged 2.5 ppg in the NBA? Who isn't going to crack our rotation, either?

This is like the saying about the backup QB is always the most popular guy in town. Any port in a storm ... replace a young guy that can't crack the rotation with an older guy that wouldn't crack the rotation.

That last play of regulation is sticking with me. I think if you're Tiago you have to call timeout to set up a play and get the best offensive guys in there.

We just really needed to attack the hoop on that play and I think that's pretty obvious.

Not one question about that play during Tiago's post game press availability.

Dillon Jones
See my comments to Rasta.

1. We already have Dillon Jones.

2. Dillon Jones is three years older and is playing in the G League right now for a reason. If he's going to take the steps he needs to take to stick in the NBA, he needs to play, and he's not going to play even as much as Rupert on this roster.

3. He hasn't done anything in the NBA to show he's going to make any appreciable difference from Rupert.

Team Notes

  • The Dallas Mavericks beat the Portland Trail Blazers, 138-133, in overtime, for their fourth win over Portland in their last five matchups. Dallas is 8-2 in their last 10 games against the Trail Blazers.
  • With Flagg (21), Washington (21), Gafford (20), Thompson (19), Williams (15), Christie (14) and Russell (12), the Mavericks had seven players record double figures for the second time this season (vs. TOR, 10/26/25). Dallas move to 10-1 in the last two seasons when seven-or-more players record 10+ points.
  • For the first time this season, the Mavericks had all five starters record double digits. Last season, the Mavericks were 8-5 in games where all five starters record double digits.
  • With 15 3-pointers, the Mavericks recorded their third game of the season with at least 15 3-pointers (17 3s vs. PHX, 11/12/25; 16 at DET, 11/1/25). Dallas shot 15-of-34 (.441) from deep, marking their best percentage from downtown this season.
  • The Mavericks outscored the Trail Blazers in points in the paint (62-56), fast break points (17-7) and bench points (47-15). Tonight marked the team’s third game with at least 60 paint points, winning all three of such games.

Player Notes

  • Cooper Flagg tallied a team-high 21 points (9-16 FG, 1-3 3FG, 2-3 FT) to go along with 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks, the first 20-5-5 game of his career. He joined Tracy McGrady and LeBron James as the only 18-year-olds to record a 20-5-5 game in NBA history.
  • Flagg became one of 13th Maverick to record a 20-5-5 game in his debut season, and one of four Mavericks to record such a game in his first 14 games (Dennis Smith Jr., Jim Jackson, Luka Dončić).
  • With his fourth 20-point game, Flagg joined Mark Aguirre, Jamal Mashburn and Luka Dončić as the only Mavericks with four-or-more 20-point games through their first 14 career games. He joined Aguirre and Dončić has the only Dallas rookies to record 13 double figure games in the team’s first 14 matches.
  • Daniel Gafford recorded a season-high 20 points (6-8 FG, 8-10 FT), 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 blocks, his 10th 20-point game as a Maverick. He had only seven 20-point games prior to joining the Mavericks.
  • With 15 blocks through just nine games this season, Gafford tied for his second-best start to the season through his first nine games of the year (20 blocks through 9 games, 2023-24).
  • In all but one of his 20-point career games (at NOP, 1/28/23), Gafford fielded a 75.0 percent field goal percentage or higher.
  • P.J. Washinton Jr. tied a team-high 21 points (7-16 FG, 5-7 3FG, 2-4 FT), 7 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. His five 3-pointers marked a season high, with his previous high in a game this season being two 3-pointers made. His 5 3-pointers tied for his career-high shots made from deep as a Maverick.
  • Washington Jr.’s five 3-pointers marked just his fifth time doing so as a Maverick, with Dallas going undefeated (5-0) in such games.
  • Max Christie, playing in his 200th career game, recorded 14 points (4-7 FG, 3-6 3FG, 3-4 FT), 4 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal to extend his career-best streak to 12 consecutive games with at least 10 points.
  • With three 3-pointers tonight, Christie has hit a 3-pointer in all 14 games of the season thus far, becoming just the fifth Maverick in franchise history to do so, joining Klay Thompson, Luka Dončić, Jason Terry and Tim Hardaway Jr.
  • Christie notched his fourth straight game with three 3-pointers, tying his career-best streak which he set in the first four games this season.
  • Brandon Williams had 15 points (5-10 FG, 5-6 FT), 3 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal for his third consecutive game with at least 5 assists, the second-longest streak in his career.

Opposing Team Notes

  • Shaedon Sharpe recorded 36 points to tie for the second-most in his career (36 points at WAS, 2/26/25; 36 points at TOR, 4/3/25).
  • Deni Avdija tallied 29 points to go along with 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 blocks. This is his eighth game in a row to record at least 20 points, marking the second-longest 20-point game streak of his career (9 games, 3/27/25-10/27/25).
  • Donovan Clingan recorded 16 points and 11 rebounds. This is the first time this season and the fifth time in his career that he has posted a stat line of at least 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Yep. But they are who they are...and clearly defense isn't clicking anymore.

Losses to the Lakers without 80% of their starting 5 and this game isn't good.

This team isn't good. They might not get above .500 again for a while, the next 10 games are against no teams under .500

And with how this team plays against bad teams, I'm not even sure they'll get above .500 again this year.
We’re beating the teams we’ll face in playin/playoffs (GS, Denver, OKC). Who cares about a loss to Dallas? Would you rather lose to the good teams and beat the bad teams? Can’t go 82-0. Let’s win the ones that matter.

Lmao. I laughed so hard at this. Funniest post ive ever seen. Im sure you laughed writing it too.

* I think it was a bad coaching decision to play Kris Murray 32 minutes and Clingan 16. Clingan was killing Dallas on the offensive glass and clogging the middle on defense. When he was out Dallas drove into the paint at will

* Deni complains about every call. It's constant and a bit obnoxious. He initiates contact on just about all of his drives and he's not going to get the call every time.

* Sharpe was aggressive but he drove into shot blockers too often and missed several shots he normally makes. Yeah, 32 shots is too many, kind of like a CJ chuckfest game. But 39-6-4 is still the kind of solid game we've been asking for from him, even if the efficiency was low

* I think people writing off Flagg as not worthy of a #1 pick are well off base. 21-8-5 with 0 turnovers was an impressive game considering he's still 18 years old. He's good on defense too. A 2-way player already. Yeah, needs improvement but from what I've seen he'll almost certainly get there

Deni complaining is getting old. At least 2-3 times a game he’s arguing a call while the other team takes the ball out and the Blazers are scrambling in transition.

Just what YOU needed!!??
kind of OT, but in the game a player knocked over one of the baseline camera guys and his camera needed a fix. I was curious looking at that camera....do you know how much one of those things cost?

Just asked my engineer. A handheld camera like the one you saw get hit tonight costs about $35,000. The “up-cams” that are showing you the whole court during the game are a little over $200,000 on average.
