I still think once this team is healthy (if ever), they might win games like this. Not having a real PG, and lacking enough shooting is a recipe for losses.

Their lack of shooting is quite frustrating. Jrue playing, the team is 6-6. Without him they're 6-11.

I think with him, assuming he was healthy, that'd probably be 9-8 or 8-9 in that same stretch.

Well I am calling it a night but cya all for tomorrow's game vs. the Magic

I hope they figure out how to correct at least 50% of the stupid shit from tonight or it's going to be another long annoying evening with the same result.
They scrapped back into the game, so for me it was annoying until then and still the turnovers and missed free throws sucked but for me this kind of competition even in a loss is a good result.

Weird game. Under the circumstances, I'd have felt pretty good if we hadn't taken the lead but lost because we missed 14 FTs, gave up 22 offensive rebounds and turned it over 18 times.

Sidy was great. Start with that. He was just great. And we drew fouls and got Cunningham out of the game and almost got Thompson out.

Shaedon was great for about 40 minutes. Then he missed three shots in the restricted area and committed two of his eight (!) turnovers and looked like Kris Murray, not wanting the ball down the stretch. He got the ball twice where he didn't even look at the hoop and immediately threw it back where it came from. That was disappointing to see.

That left it all to Deni, who nearly had a triple-double but also was 9-for-15 at the stripe.

Clingan had another double-double, but it really felt like he didn't play as well as his numbers because Duren was even better, but, more importantly, beat Clingan for several important rebounds down the stretch.

In the big picture, though, this was probably the optimal outcome. We came back from 20 down against the best team in the East and made them sweat but lost, but many of the mistakes we made were by younger players being asked to do a lot and most of those were correctable. Shaedon needs to tighten up the handle and get a better idea of how to draw contact instead of getting blocked or forcing up tough shots when he attacks the rim, but he can do that with good offseason training. He also had five steals tonight. Deni will become a more consistent free throw shooter as he continues to get there. Sidy will add elements to his game, I believe, to maximize his effort. We were competitive, we lost, we will learn and we remain on track to pick up another asset through this draft, so, all things considered, I'm only mildly disappointed and only in the present.

Oh yeah, we're a Jrue away from winning these games. Can't wait to find out they're holding him back so we can tank a little.

Think about having Jrue and Scoot in the game.

I don't know what will happen between now and the trade deadline but one thing is for sure both of those guys or whatever they bring back in a trade or trades would definitely help us.

they ruled there was no imminent possession after the reversed call. Pretty sure by rule that's a new 24 second clock for whichever team won the jump

it could be, that when the officials watched the replay, they saw that Deni fouled Harris about 3 times before the shot, just not the foul they called. So they balanced a bit by their possession ruling
I'm sure that's accurate but that rule penalizes the team that had the bad call against them and benefits the team who did not get fouled, so shouldn't have a benefit.

maybe...but the Blazers are like bop-a-mole. Too many turnovers to win one night...next game they correct the turnovers but give up 20 offensive rebounds and lose because of it....next game they control the defensive glass but miss 14 FT's....next game they don't have many turnovers, shoot 90% on FT's, and win the boards, but shoot 6-39 on three's and blow 7 lay-ups....next game, it's too many turnovers to win...rinse-repeat

It's almost like we're a young team with two PGs (Jrue and Scoot) and a combo guard (Blake) out with injuries.

Portland shot 19 more FT's when Detroit was more aggressive and had a 66-40 points in the paint advantage. Blazer fans shouldn't complain about officials when those two things happen

That was just a pivotal play. I think when the whistle was blown there was only .6 seconds left on the shot clock so they shouldn't have called imminent possession but a shot clock violation.

I don't care about the rest of the game, that play was pivotal and it fucked us... full stop.

missing PG's don't explain 14 missed FT's and giving up 22 offensive rebounds

for me, the injury excuse is wearing kind of thin. For one thing other teams have had major injuries too; for another, I'm beginning to think Blazer injuries may not be a bad luck problem but may be a roster construction problem

I like us at three positions right now... maybe four. I like our starting 2-4 being Shae, Tou and Deni and I like Sidy as a wing off the bench. Other than that I'd love to see us move anyone else on the roster to make more sense either trying to win now or continuing with our rebuild and hopefully players that match the schemes we're trying to play.

This is the way.
