I'd hope for that, but, here's the thing: Where does he get minutes next year?
I can't imagine him starting in front of Dame. If they don't unload Jrue, he's the third PG. He's not playing in front of Shaedon.
I watched them today when they needed to really score in bunches to try to get back into go to Wesley instead of him. Wesley is one of the guys you could argue is actually a worse shooter than Scoot. That's telling me something.
I think Scoot has 20 games to show them something -- anything -- that he's worth keeping. Right now I see a player who's not doing anything to making him unexpendable.
Or maybe here's another way to look at it: If Scoot played for any other team in the NBA, would you not want to play against him? Would it worry you when he stepped on the floor against you?
I hear our broadcasters talk how great he is when he makes simple plays. A lot of times, that happens when they're trying to get the fans excited and disregard what they're seeing with their eyes.
I want Scoot to succeed, but I also have to be realistic about what I'm seeing. It's not even the shooting to me that's the problem. It's that he doesn't do anything else that makes the poor shooting forgivable.
