This loss almost negates the Denver win from the other night -- period -- BUT

I am done for the night -- I hope everyone has a good rest of the evening and I will check in on Wed's game from time to time but I expect a loss by 15 to 20 plus --

One huge problem that Lamar just pointed out is that we had guys like Bronny and Nick Smith Jr. out there and we didn't impose our will on them. They looked just as good as Smart did not because they are but because we didn't make them look worse than him.

This is the first game of the season that I'm really frustrated with our guys. Hopefully this is a real wake up call for them and they really take it to OKC on Wednesday win or lose.

We have to be the team other teams dislike playing even if they get a W.

there have been times when a seriously depleted Blazer squad beat a team they had no business beating. Games like this happen 30-40 times every year in the NBA. Blazers turn to be the donkey tonight

Blazers gave up 59% shooting on FG's tonight. The defense was MIA

Clingan had a rough game

Sharpe+Jrue+Camara+Murray....4-26 on three's. That's 15.4%, and my hunch is that's not good

something else: the Lakers had seen the Blazer defense and transition offense already. Looked like they were prepared for it

Almost?! It completely does. This is already the worse loss of the season - I don't think we can have a worse one from here on out.

- Being unable to rebound and counter Ayton means the Lakers could employ a zone defense and force Portland to shoot threes while gobbling up crucial defensive rebounds. On an average night, it doesn't work since Portland would make 33% of their threes. But on a night like this, Portland needed to transition into the mid-range with Sharpe, Jrue, and maybe even Deni if it's clear the team cannot hit their threes. Just a few less 3s and a few more mid-range shots made (Sharpe and Jrue having elite mid-range FG% at various points in their careers) and this is much closer.

- That is where I think Clingan or Rob should've played more minutes. Have them set picks for mid-range shots and fight more aggressively against Ayton. If Clingan doesn't play as well as he did in the last match up? Let Rob play more.

- I continue to think Sharpe's game is not congruent with Tiago's offensive system. He has been raised to play the half-court style and barely played the game to begin with.....but just like Warriors ball shifted things, the sub heavy rotation style that OKC & Indiana used may be the new trend that teams are chasing.

Now, Sharpe will eventually catch up and match up to Tiago's system, to varying degrees, as seen in this game and the prior two (and a half) games. However, I think Tiago will have to adapt to Sharpe (and Deni), as well. His system cannot purely be 'equal sharing', relying on passes and shots and intense pacing (at least, not until the playoffs). Not that the team cannot do that but it also needs a pecking order for when things aren't going according to the system. Imo, it's Deni>Sharpe>Jrue=Grant.

And you'll need players to set these guys up with actual plays, having some moments of half-court basketball. This is where Jrue, Scoot, the big men, Murray, etc can play important roles to help facilitate the leading scorers and control team play or set picks.

- From what I understand, this is basis for the lockerroom tension between Ja Morant and Coach Iisalo, too, and may be why a high flying, athletic, non-shooter guard like Morant's FG% has been abysmal this season. A Sharpe and Morant may be averaging 24ppg elsewhere but seem to suffer with this analytics ball meets international style. Sharpe doesn't appear the same ego as Morant so maybe that can be circumvented but this may have to be something to manage. For all the attempts to make this like soccer, it's still basketball and star heavy and therefore, finding ways to make your star feel confident as a scorer.

For example, in OKC's case, SGA is playing 32mpg and not capped out at, say, 28mpg like Ja Morant is so there has to be some of way replicating that aspect, too. And I think, if Sharpe is playing offensively like he was the last few games and is healthy (he's still got a calf issue), I don't see a reason to limit his minutes.

- Losses like this will happen. Even historic teams usually suffer a few losses to bad teams. This team was predicted to be a .500 team or near it so you can expect a few more of these.

They looked tired. Unable to keep up the effort they have been playing at. Maybe starting to wear down a bit. Is not having extra fresh bodies due to injuries making guys play more minutes, and tiring them out more?

I think once we all step back a bit, we're going to realize that this team is not built to compete yet, not in its present form and thinking it was isn't realistic, partly because of just how good the West is right now and partly because we're still a couple of pieces away.

The loss last night was sobering. It shouldn't have happened. But it also wasn't completely out of the question because the team was banged up and it doesn't have shooters or scorers.

There'll be games like this.

I think we could've withstood Ayton and Hachimura going off but Nick Smith killed us. They needed a ball handler and he stepped up. The only silver lining about this loss is that it takes some of the shine off Austin Reaves

Turn out the lights the party's over --- LOSS incoming

This was pathetic and anyone who thinks different well as they say better to say nothing at all then say what I want too cause this game is bringing out a little of the old me. This was a sure fire WIN and they have pissed it away and they need to have a team meeting no coaches and Dame and Jrue needs to kick everyone's ass -- period

Someone aka Dame and Jrue need to pull Sharpe aside and tell him to get his head out of his ass and play to his potential cause right now he is not
They came out and underestimated the Lakers.

Yes it was a bad loss but it’s a long season. No need to overreact

I didn’t know we played the Suns last night lol

I know you meant Nick Smith but Nick Richards plays for the Suns.

Yeah, 42% from three from Grant is abysmal shooting....38% from Advija and 35% from Camara is utterly appalling. Scoring around 20-30 from Holiday and Advija every game is paltry. Oh and typically getting double digits from 6-8 players is sorely lacking in the scoring department, too.

Yeah, I didn't think we were good enough to fall into a trap game and I thought our players knew we weren't good enough to take any squad lightly. I was wrong. Hopefully it's a lesson learned but obviously we could see our guys lose concentration and intensity again.

That’s one of the most embarrassing losses in Blazer history. When you can’t beat the Lakers without their 3 best players, you’re beyond hopeless. And doesn’t that Ayton trade look good!

if you're talking three's, going into last night's game, the Blazers ranked 20th in 3ptFG% at 33.9%. But their 9-40 mark last night leaves them at 32.3%; which ranks 26th. Last season they ranked 26th too.

their offensive rating was 15th going into the game; it probably will drop one or two slots after last night's game. That's a definite improvement from last season, but I question just how sustainable it is....

For instance, last season the Blazers shot 76.2% on FT's, ranking 26th. This season they were shooting 83.2% on FT's, ranking 8th. I have a hard time believing the Blazers will continue that pace. No way....last season OKC led the NBA in FT% at 81.9%. Now typically, shooting percentages tend to drop as the season grinds on. If the Blazers drop down to 78% they will be losing 1.6 points a game from their offense....assuming their FTA rate remains about the same
