And the inferior team loses every time an NBA game is played, correct? Hardly. Nobody that I've seen here is expecting the Blazers to win the series with the Spurs. They are clearly the better team. That said, The Spurs punched above their weight in Game 1. As an example, Wemby does not typically take 6 three pointers and hit 80 percent of them. He's fantastic, but he's not superhuman. Vassell does not usually shoot 9 threes and make 44 percent of them. Jrue does not usually take 7 threes and only make 1. I think most here are of the belief that the Blazers have to play to their best level to have a shot at winning a game or two. It would help immensely if the Spurs fell back to earth just a touch on their 3-point shooting.

I think both teams played pretty much exactly their game, and the league reffing to the spread reflected that. What each team learns from that is where it’ll be interesting.

If we want to win game three or four, we need to show the league we’re learning and improving. Sunday I watched a ref literally teach Scoot how to correctly protest a call. He called something against Scoot who argued it and the ref told him to stop arguing. There is a correct way to protest a call and that’s the coach’s challenge. Soon after, same ref calls a bullshit call on Scoot and Scoot convinces Tiago to challenge the call. The call, which was obviously bullshit, is overturned, and suddenly we start getting calls from the refs and close the gap. The refs are trying to teach us how to play like we belong in the playoffs. I hope the players learn. We will know if we have by whether we beat the spread by a significant amount tonight.

Anyone watch WNBA when Caitlin Clark plays. More hard fouls, More hits and it’s like she’s being targeted by players. Blazer players should watch it and maybe we can hit Wemby hard and foul him hard, elbow him. Do something if you want to get back in this series. Put Sidy in there just to hit him.

I think you have that in reverse. Wemby was the one flailing around and slamming his lean and long but still heavy body onto players with rarely a whistle blown. I think in this series, some refs are getting blown, though.

Pick up San Antonia full court then everyone drop back into a 2-3 zone. Play zone all night. 2-3 zone and once in a while swap to a box and 1 (guarding Wemby) but falling back into a 2-3. Focus all effort on defense and let offense “happen” taking whatever a chaotic and scrappy defense will get you.

Yeah I got to agree with you on this. I thought other than 3 point shooting the Blazers did almost exactly what they needed to do.

We definitely shot way below average Sundsy. We needed to hit five more three pointers to “win” (obviously that would have still been up in the air but let’s say it’s true for the purposes of this argument). We would have needed to shoot 39.4% to get those five extra makes out of the shots we took. That, ultimately, is the difference between us and a higher seeded version of ourselves.

Unfortunately our average this season was 34.3%, which only nets us three more makes vs Sunday. That would have put us within four though, all else being equal. And I would be happy with that on the road in the playoffs.

It is interesting though that we do have a player who will be on the court next season who probably can hit those five extra three pointers in a game. We may be closer than we think. Overall I am encouraged.

Shit happens when you're fighting for a rebound. Like you might fall on their star player. And it's not even a foul. That's the beauty of it!
