We're number 6!
We're number 6!

If the team gets a win against the Hornets, they will be one win out of #5. The Blazers would be even with the Hornets in the loss column.

Screw blowing it up. Get Marcus and Brandon back and go to frick'n war!

Go Blazers

Edit: I didn't realize the the Bugs play another game before they get to Portland. Oh, Well....

Now that I think of it, meteors don't ascend.

hornets play GS tomorrow. if they lose that game and ours we could be ahead of them in the the loss column

It would be nice to be at the #6 or #8 slot. I don't think I want to see the Lakers in our house.

According to one of your posters, your season was over awhile ago! Wow...what a long NBA season it is.

You guys are playing some good ball and watching LMA dominate has been fun. Keep it up guys...

I don't know why, but when I read the title to this thread I had an image of a guy running out into the street shouting "we're number 6!" over and over again.

nic do you still think we miss the playoffs?

I can honestly say that I don't have a feel for it one way or another. I'm leaning slightly towards "yes," but I want to see what happens at the trade deadline.

Yea according to that guy the season is over every day.

Seriously? The Blazers have played 4 more road games than the Jazz and 3 more than the Nuggets. The Jazz are a mess and didn't even get the expected post-Sloan boost in play. The Nuggets are playing poorly and are likely to lose Carmelo. The Blazers have been playing pretty well, have moved into a tie for 6th seed and are going to get two good players back which will boost their anemic second unit. It seems to me that unless Cho pulls a major rebuild move that dumps Miller and Camby, it takes a whole lot of negative attitude to predict the Blazers don't make the playoffs.

Our schedule gets pretty tough in March and April. Getting Roy back will probably lead to an udjustment period as well. Cautiously optimistic is best served here

If the plan was to insert Roy back into the starting lineup, I could see there being a major adjustment. However, I would think that Nate is planning on bringing Roy off the bench for the foreseeable future both in order to save on his knees by minimizing his minutes and to avoid a major disturbance in what the first unit is doing. I don't see how having him with the second unit, probably in a 3 guard lineup with Patty and Rudy, does anything but improve what we've been seeing lately.

I've heard several people suggest that Roy might come back as our backup PG. That could definitely be...interesting.

I'd think it would be more likely to use Patty to bring the ball up and guard the opposing PG and then use Roy to set the play. I guess we'll see how it works out pretty soon.

This is exactly my train of thought ... but apparently I'm being wildly negative.

I agree with you. But if Roy is able to play, he will be there in the 4th, and that will take an adjustment period to get familiar with Roy's ISO vs the currents team ball movement. Both players and coaches.

With respect to Roy, I need to see it to believe it. He's been a ball dominant guard his entire time with the team, he's never shown that he's all that comfortable (or effective) playing off the ball and he's going to be extremely rusty. Add in the fact that he's physically limited now and I'm just not sure how much good he's going to be able to do after such a long layoff. Will he be better than Patty? Maybe, and he probably couldn't be much worse, but expecting his presence to be a benefit right away (if at all?) seems like wishcasting to me. Hopefully my reservations are unfounded.

I am in wait and see mode with Roy for more than seeing if he can coexist with the team. I am more interested if he can play at all, let alone co-exist.

You must live down the street from me!

Go Blazers

I don't think being cautious is you being "wildly negative." I think the mocking of having moved into the 6th spot in the conference is an example of it.

You've gone from being the cautious type to the "Get back to me when the team is likely to win the title, until then all you homers enjoy celebrating beign SIXTH BEST." :)

If you can't enjoy anything but true title contention, you're not going to enjoy sports fandom much.

I'm happy the Blazers are in sixth (truly), the OP just gave me a funny mental image that I decided to share. Nothing more, nothing less.

What worries me most about Roy returning is will LA revert into a 15 ppg player? Will Roy expect to take the last shot after a few weeks back and expect the offense to run through him again? I really think expectations for Roy needs to be explained to him before his return "BY NATE" and the organization. This teams chemistry is good now. Roy must not disrupt that because he still thinks it's his team to run. I don't know that LA is strong enough to say Roy " THIS IS MY TEAM NOW!" We'll see!

The season in my eyes hinges on wether Roy can be a sixth man or feels the need to be the star!

Damn, you caught that post before I deleted it like 10 seconds later. :sigh:

I deleted it because I decided it wasn't a fair characterization of your post after going back and re-reading it in the context of the OP.

What's been impressive to me is that since Roy went down, we've had very few letdowns. We had that bad loss to the Kings at home, but that needs to be offset by the almost win against Miami where James had to go crazy to get the game into OT and the big wins over SA and CHI.

I'm used to blowing several games to teams we should have crushed simply because we can't get motivated for them.

No worries. No offense was taken.

I think where the Blazers are at now and the records of the teams competing for the back half of the playoff list says more about the drain of talent from the Western Conference to the Eastern conference than anything else. I think if this was any of the past few years Portland doesn't get in. But this year is different, and they probably will.
