A heretical thought / And something about Orlando (1 Viewer)

Does it seem curious to anyone else that in 10 years Lillard has never been able to convince another star to join him in Portland? Likewise, does it seem curious that we’ve never heard a star say they want to play with Lillard? We always attribute Portland’s difficulty in attracting big name talent to the weather, or the market size, or the “whiteness” of the city, but might it also be that players don’t see Lillard as the type of guy who can get them a title, or the type of guy they would be comfortable sharing the court with?
Giannis said he wants to play with Dame. Melo and Grant were successfully recruited even though Melo had nowhere else to go. Also AD and LeBron met with Dame asking him to come to LA. So yes, stars want to play with him.

High taxas
Shitty weather (during the season)
Zero nightlife for young black millionaires
The 'High Taxes" part is disputable. Everything you buy in California is taxed pretty heavily and there are ways to avoid certain taxes in Oregon that are not available in other states. Yeah Oregon is in the mid to upper portion of the country but it certainly isn't the highest.
One thing of note is Florida is one of the lowest tax burden states.
New York, New Jersey, Minnesota and Illinois are all in the top 10 of highest tax burden.

Now Zero night life? That could be?

So explain why Atlanta isn't a destination and why they have zero rings there...low taxes...urban culture..night life..warmer climate? New York is another one...sometimes nightlife can fuck up a young athlete's work ethic...guys come here to get better at basketball and live healthy..they spend half the year traveling to every urban destination..it's not like they're hermits in the NW....nobody could go out for a couple years now anyway. I don't buy the idea that Portland is undesirable as a place to call homebase. Off season they can party their butts off wherever they want

This thread isn't thoughtful and posting bullshit like this doesn't make you a heretic... it just continues the downward spiral of your ever dwindling credibility.
Well, thank you for that astute observation!

but just as useless as that melo thread now is.
Sorry boss. this thread is weeeeaaaak sauce.
I disagree. We hear rumors every summer that Lillard is hanging out with other NBA players who want to come to Portland, or talking to other stars about coming to Portland, and yet it never happens. I think it’s worth discussing the reasons this may be happening.

Fair enough. However this conversation is a pete aNd repeat event…. Add nausium.

This has been a discussion for long before Dame was on the team. But its how you portrayed this as a Dame issue and not a team issue that makes this thread weak sauce.

wut?

Portland hasn't had cap-space since 2016 and they had an idiot GM who valued CJ more than Paul George and Jimmy Butler, How the fuck was Dame supposed to recruit anybody into that kind of situation? Convince Lebron to sign in Portland for the MLE?

To Disney World with his Family i presume.

Nothing burger....if we did ever trade the guy it wouldn't be to a bottom feeding team in the east...the idea is that he gets shipped to a team that's a contender...Orlando is not that team...you can trade Ant and Nas back to their hometown for their first round pick ..Dame would laugh the idea of Orlando right out of the room...he's closer to a ring in Portland playing with 19 year olds

It's June 4th. There's three weeks until the draft. Everyone knows that nothing is actually going to happen until at least the week of the draft. This has gotta be the worst time to be an NBA content creator. Lots of people are just throwing stuff up and hoping to get those clicks. That's 100% what this is. It's nothing.

That said, I LOVE this particular nothing. It would make me sooo happy if the Blazers did this exact trade and was able to end up with both of the Thompson twins. If we could get Ausan at 11 and trade Ant and #6 to whoever for some high flying big men it would be a lot of fun to see Amen, Shaedon, Ausar and some other guys that have "jump out of the gym" on their scouting report running all around the court.
