Florida deputy resigns after body-camera video shows him pulling gun on pregnant driver during traffic stop

A Florida deputy resigned after video showed him pulling a gun on a pregnant mother during a traffic stop.

Ebony Washington, who is four months pregnant, admitted that she was speeding at around 75 mph in a 55-mph hour zone with three other children in the car while they were on their way home to Jacksonville from Gainesville on Friday when she saw lights and sirens in her rearview mirror.

The woman claims she did not want to pull over in a poorly lit area, so she did not stop immediately and kept driving with her hazard lights on until she reached a spot where she felt more comfortable.

"Pull the vehicle over, or I’ll put you into the ground," Bradford County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jason DeSue is heard saying in body-camera video over the speakers of his department vehicle.

Washington’s vehicle pulls into a gas station and stops before DeSue gets out with his gun drawn.

"If you make any movement, that’ll be your last mistake you’re gonna make," DeSue yells toward Washington’s vehicle, according to the video. "Do not move."

Washington is seen putting her hands out of her car, as DeSue points his gun at the woman's vehicle from his own.

The woman said the deputy told her to get out, but she responded that she had her seat belt on. Video shows she then gets out, and the deputy pulls her arm and places her in handcuffs.

"I’m trying to tell you the only reason I didn’t stop – I’m a very educated woman – Lord knows, I was only not [pulling over] because it’s dark out, and I have three kids with me. I’m pregnant and I did not want them to feel uncomfortable," Washington, seen wearing handcuffs, explains to the deputy.

Later on in the video, DeSue yells, "Just shut up about the why! Don’t care about the why!"

The video shows DeSue hand Washington a speeding ticket after she was taken out of handcuffs. She tells the deputy, "I just wanted to apologize again," to which he responds, "Apologize to yourself for not thinking."

The deputy has since resigned from the department amid media coverage of the incident.

"Had I have done any movement outside of what he told me to do that would’ve been the opportunity for him to pull the trigger," Washington said in an on-camera video with WJXT. "Him having power, the badge, the gun and the authority to do things, I think sometimes officers, like himself, they take advantage."

"I am disturbed and disheartened how Jacob Desue handled the traffic stop on Ebony Washington. She responded in a manner that was totally understandable in this circumstance," Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith said in a statement obtained by Fox News Digital. "Jacob Desue should have deescalated the situation but disappointingly was unable to respond in the appropriate manner. I have already accepted Jacob Desue’s resignation while continuing the internal investigation into his conduct. I want to reassure our community that I will hold the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office accountable to the highest standards of our profession."

The department said DeSue had been reprimanded several times in the past for insubordiantion and failure to comply with orders from a superior, previoulsy facing a two-week suspension for one of those instances.

Full traffic stop.

The way this officer aggressively acted in this situation only validates her decision to pull over in a well-lit spot.
Because of this, it could now be a reasonable action as a driver to slam on the brakes directly in front of the police car the second you see the lights flashing.

Full traffic stop.

Footage shows Bradford County deputy who pointed gun at pregnant woman pinning a man during arrest
Former deputy Desue had a list of disciplinary write-ups. He was issued a last chance agreement and put on special probationary period in April 2022.

BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. — New body-worn camera footage shows a former of Bradford County Sheriff's deputy pulling a man out of his truck, wrestling the man to the ground and kneeling on his back before handcuffing him during an incident at a gas station.

It's the same deputy that was seen on video pointing a gun at a pregnant woman and handcuffing her while her children were in the car.

Former deputy Jacob Desue responded to a priority call for service at a Circle K on Jan. 11.

First Coast News has obtained body-worn camera footage of the incident from a local law firm. Desue can be seen pulling a man out of a truck, wrestling him to the ground, and putting his knee on the man's back before handcuffing him.

It's not the first time Desue had disciplinary action taken against him.

Desue started his employment with the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office in March 2020. Since then, he has accumulated a list of disciplinary actions, First Coast News has obtained records going back to July 2021.

On July 14, 2021, Desue was reported by a supervisor for insubordination after a supervisor asked Desue to response to a locked vehicle call for service. Desue replayed that another officer was in the area and could “pick it up along the way”.

He also told a supervisor ‘no’ when asked to complete a report.

Then on July 23 he was reported again for ‘employee disrespect’ following a conversation between Desue and a supervisor in which Desue was described as having a negative and disrespectful attitude. The observation report says of Desue “your attitude seems to always be negative and disrespectful and is not tolerated.”

In October, Desue was assigned corrective training after a traffic stop incident where the deputy parked in the field of fire of another officer on scene. The supervisor’s report goes on to say that the Desue had a responsibility to “make a decision to terminate the pursuit. This [suspect’s] driving behavior posed a great threat to the citizens and utilizing a PIT maneuver or alike maneuver would have been a good and justifiable means to terminate this incident.”

Then in December, Desue was reported for not working an assigned detail at a local library.

In January 2022, a report says Desue had his body-worn camera turned off while response to an incident in front of the Bradford County jail. Later that same day, the deputy was observed using aggressive behavior while using profanity during a call for service at a Circle K.

In February, Desue lost privileges to utilizes his patrol vehicle as a 'take home vehicle' after the car was left dirty and filed with wood pieces and leaves due to Desue using the car to haul wood in the back seat.

In April, Desue was suspended without pay after an incident in which Desue refused to report injuries sustained during a suspect pursuit. A letter of reprimand was issued for insubordination, non-compliance, and failure to report personal injury.

The letter describes the incident in which Desue was involved in a pursuit of suspect. A responding Sergeant, who arrived at the scene after the pursuit, observed Desue had a bandage around his hand which was bleeding. Desue told the Sergeant that he suffered a cut from a pair of scissors that he claimed were inside the suspect's pocket.

Desue initially refused to allow the Sergeant on scene to see the wound and refused to allow the wound to be disinfected on scene. Sergeant advise Desue that if he did not want to disinfect the injury on scene he would need to go to fire-rescue headquarters. Desue told the Sergeant he would and left the scene. It was later uncovered that Desue never went.

Stemming from this April incident, Desue was issued a last chance agreement in which he agreed to a special probationary period that would last until April 2023. According to the agreement, any violation of BCSO policies would result in the immediate termination of Desue, and per the agreement Desue was made to write a letter of resignation that would be invoked upon any violation.

Desue was under this probationary period when, on August 15, he conducted a traffic stop in which he pointed a gun at a pregnant woman and who had her three kids in the car.

His resignation was immediately enforced.

didn't see this getting posted.
I kind of understand what she was saying, but it really makes her and other police look bad.

Man! @THE HCP was pulled over last night for the first time in at least 20 years. Caught me way off guard. Used to get pulled over all the time in my lowered window tinted VW with my music booming. Not so much anymore. It was legit. I didn't realize my tags expired September 1st. Dude was cool, took one look at Mrs. HCP and let us go with a warning.

Karen with a badge. She really comes off as an entitled pos and everything that is wrong with cops attitudes these days. Probably a real joy to be around in any capacity.

For all the cars without legal tags....

They are allowed in an emergency. They can't just go 90 for the heck of it.

Yeah, it certainly doesn't look good especially with the current climate.

watching again this deserves more scrutiny.

if we stay behind you ling enough we can find something to pull you over for????

That statement just reaks of biased policing. As if they will decide if they want to pull someone over or not, vs doing their job and pulling over anyone driving illegally or unsafe. She is gonna make the choice of who she wants to pull over instead of following the laws????
She shouldn't be behind the wheel of a police vehicle with that mindset.
mindbogglingly dumb tweet.

Perfect argument for fewer laws and more scrutiny on policing.

These people have been trained wrong and are often not the type of people who should be police in the first place.

I wouldn't mind definding police as long as they legalize citizens killing criminals.

Wow, the kid is having a mental health crisis and THAT is how the police handle it???? A shit ton of armed to the teeth cops scared witless of a kid locked in a car with a small knife??? Everyone of the cops involved should be prosecuted and imprisoned. They took a call for help and escalated it into murder. Pathetic. There are absolutely NO excuses or rationalizations even possible.

Couldn't agree more. Cops need to be actively rooting people like this out of the force.

Yes that poor kid was obviously not a threat to anyone in those circumstances. He wasnt close to anyone, he wasnt charging anyone, he couldnt even reach anyone to harm them without them approaching his space. Also what kind of procedure is it for the cop to stand on the hood of the car like that? Horrific results. There were a few good cops in that group who were handling the situation well, but they should have been able to have the overaggressive ones moved back and they didnt.

So before I click on this….was he really murdered because his car wasn’t working. Or did the situation escalate and he wasn’t doing what the police were asking him to do multiple times and then they handled it wrong?
