I'm not the one suggesting a shadow Blazer front office, nor am I the one that's repeatedly been placed on forum probation.

wow, nothing like posting a misrepresentation of what I even said. Please read my posts and if you are struggling to understand what I said, feel free to ask me to clarify rather than post some bull shit of what I meant. Maybe it's time to take the riverman approach as he seems to have done the right thing as this forum has become nothing but a cesspool of fools. Enjoy the forum props.

That would have been better than lying to us

Do you really think he was lying? Or just being optimistic?

I don't think anyone here really knows what is in these guys heads at their levels, but i'm willing to bet that every team entering every season says much the same thing. I don't think our players and management are any different. 32 teams enter the season with title aspirations, from the top to the bottom. Its the fans that often have different opinions, often more realistic.

No team is EVER going to come out and say, before the season, that they aren't going to compete. If they did that they would get chased out of town and play to empty houses.

Easy, easy... I'm just pushing back a little. Making a little joke.

Like this one: You're leaving?!? See you later......under whatever profile you create next.

Also, my friend, I am not calling for any heads to roll. I am just skeptical that the GM isn't the GM.

Not that I wouldn't welcome change, but I'm not making suggestions. This has been a hard season... I can survive off of a glimmer of hope, but I haven't seen a glimmer in a long time.

@Orion Bailey ...not sure all 32 teams have title aspirations. In fact, that list is probably under 10 and the reality is, it's really under 5.

In the least he should not have opened his mouth...lest remove all doubt

Eh?

In 18 games, Turner is putting up 3/2/2 on 38% from the field. He hasn't made a single three all year.

Baze is at 8/4/1 and shooting 36% from three on 4 attempts a game.

Ok so Bazemore is a little better

I think the all-in part of the plan was slated to happen at the deadline when Whiteside or Bazemore could be moved for a better player at a position of need.

Is it still slated then?

And the ones that don't stand a chance should not proclaim such aspirations.

Who are teams #31 & #32? There are only 30 in the NBA by my count.
You must be using that new type of math... :bgrin:

Just like a financial guy, to have trouble with numbers. :biglaugh:

Teams attempt to compete...most fail
compete for what though? A championship. All but one team fails. I still stand by the premise that every team enteres every season optimistic and that they are looking to win it all. HOw realistic it is would need to be dissected form team to team.

I'm a financial guy?

I thought there were 32 teams. My fault. :) Let me restate and say I believe ALL teams enter the season thinking about winning it all.

No. TBpup was the one who stated 32 teams.

Bazemore is shooting 36% from 3 on 4 attempts per game this season. Getting that for ET is no "improvement in production?" Have you looked at ET's stats this year?

Turner has been battling injuries this season

and, to really gauge things properly, compare Turner last season to Bazemore this season...that's the exchange Portland made:

like I said, it hasn't been an upgrade

This is a strawman? Again, do I have to highlight what LAL paid to get rid of Deng/Mozgov? Or MEM with Parsons? etc etc.

the Lakers traded Mozgov and Russell for the expiring contract of Brooke Lopez and for Kyle Kuzma. In other words, they got out of Mozgov's deal 2 years earlier than Portland. They bought-out and waived Deng at a discount. The result of those two moves was that the Lakers had the space to sign Lebron and trade for AD. Yeah, they did a fuck of a lot better than Portland

Memphis traded Parsons of Hill and Plumlee, then waived Plumlee. It was a revenue neutral trade and they got a player that's putting up better numbers than Bazemore. Besides that, Memphis was not trying to compete for a playoff spot like Portland, so the trade made sense for them

The one mistake I've repeatedly gotten Neil for was the stretch of Nicholson. There was literally no reason to do it. If you're gonna kill Neil repeatedly for the CJ extension in every thread, I'm hoping you give him just as much credit for the Nurk one.

first of all....I don't kill him in every thread. I've mentioned it two or three times today, but then in threads talking about Portland's current and future situations, and owing CJ 157M over 5 years seems rather germane to the present and future.

secondly, I have credited Olshey for the Nurkic contract, but I also recognize the circumstances: When Olshey has a lot of cap-space in a competitive cap-space market, he's been a fucking idiot. And when his favorite players are eligible for extensions, he goes crazy. When there is almost no cap-space around the league, no competition, and it's a total buyers market for centers, Olshey will get a C like Nurkic to sign a bargain deal. Should Olshey get the credit for a rare sign of restraint, or should it be the market?

Paul wanted Patty Mills
Paul did not want to give Roy so much money
Paul preferred Durant over Oden but it wasn't so much so to go against everyone else in the room who wanted Oden
Doesn't that show that sometimes dedicated, knowledgeable fans know as much or more than GM's? :)

Here is my question for Neil...

Agree, sometimes some fans, not all, have better ideas than their GMs. But it shows two more things.

1) Paul gave his GMs a very long leash, and seldom denied them their wants. Even when he disagreed with them.

2) Both @TBpup and @tester551 have better memories than I do.

I find your use of these stats as end all be all highly annoying. They don't tell the real story.

lol...what's the "real" story? We were talking about going from Turner to Bazemore. Those stats were exactly what happened statistically in the exchange, one year to the next

And that means one is better than the other on THIS team?

Just an update on an injured player.

Not sure if it has been mentioned? Aminu has been out over a month now with a torn meniscus. Not sure why he is not having it operated on? My torn meniscus did not heal itself.
