Why are some on here continuing to claim this has to do with mental illness? I've heard nothing about this guy having a history of this. Couldn't he just be a bad guy who wanted to take some people out with himself? I think it's easy to blame this on that, but has anybody heard anything about this?

What causes someone at the age of 64, with no criminal background, to snap and kill a bunch of people?

What constitutes a "bad guy? "

People kill for a lot of reasons. They kill for passion (they catch their spouse in bed with another person), they kill for money (gangs and drug dealers), they kill for anger (the guy that shoots someone because of road rage.) But what causes someone to plan out an elaborate assault on thousands of people that they don't know? Do you think depression is a form of mental illness?

I guess number one would work but why not just have the large scanners the airport has at the main elevator check points so people can get to their room faster? I travel and I want to check in and put away my stuff.

Yeah, I thought of that too. No problem with it as an alternative if it doesn't hold things up too much at the elevators.

He was sane???? He just wanted to try out all his guns??????

He could have had a brain tumor for all we know. Something had to be wrong with him.

I thought about this, but would you ban all guns from hotels? Vegas is actually a really popular location for gun enthusiasts because of special ranges that are available there. Or some people visit places specifically to go hunting. We allow people to transport guns in airplanes, as long as they're stowed below. So are we going to ban all guns from hotels and make people go through metal detectors when they enter the hotel?

I'd think that hotels would have to institute a policy of having a secure place for guests to check their guns.

This is the first time something like this has ever happened in the US. Having a sniper in place might have saved some lives, but it would have taken them time to acquire the target, and what happens if the shooter takes them out first? Having snipers on duty for an event without any kind of imminent danger is going to eventually lead to a drop in combat effectiveness. Maybe at first they'd be gung ho, but after a few years of nothing ever happening, they'd start to take it as a boring gig and they wouldn't be as alert as they should be. And the advantage would be for the shooter because they would know that all concerts have a sniper team, so they would probably try to find the sniper team first. I'm not against the idea, but I don't know if it would be as effective as people might hope.

I can see that being an issue. I think that it would make sense though for the specific instance that happened in Vegas: outdoor concerts in urban areas with nearby multi-story buildings.

The other thing is that it would be extremely difficult for a single sniper team to cover multiple directions. There's a reason why they have many sniper teams to protect the President. It's hard to effectively cover 360 degrees.

Mags is on facebook claiming that there was at least 2 shooters.

So either the cops were completely stupid or all agreed to take part in a giant conspiracy.

No he's not. He retracted that comment.

It could be the Russians. Have a hit squad in adjacent rooms. Shooter is dead before the SWAT team arrives.

Well, one is in the Constitution and the other isn't, but yeah, she does raise a point.
Not a good one. Just about everyone has the right to own a weapon, if they pay for it.
Everyone has the right to health care, if they (or someone like me or another taxpayer) pay for it. And until the ACA shut down the ability to have free clinics, you didn't even need to pay, in some places (like my church's free clinic in West Seattle). You can't even discriminate against felons like you can for voting and gun purchases.

Poor effort meme'ing by this one...

When Paul Ryan was asked why they overturned Obama-era regulation that prohibited people so disabled by mental illness they can't work and receive Social Security, he replied that would take away their freedom. The "replacement" to Obamacare eliminated mental health.

So if you're severely mentally ill (no idea if this killer was or not) you have the right to all the guns you want but no right to treatment for your illness.

Brings up Christianity? Check

Mentions that we're doing nothing? Check.

Brings up the regulation of cars? Check.

This is literally every post about this tragedy on facebook.
So because others raised similar thoughts they are all wrong? Is that your point?

According to Pat Robertson, god arranged the killing because Americans don't love Donald Trump enough. Not sure why his god picked this group, seems there must be more Trump-hating crowd somewhere.

Why the hell are you reading/listening to Pat Robertson?

Oh damn! Pat Robertson!!!!!

Holy shit. For confirmation of this, someone needs to ask Charles Manson.

If you say David Duke agrees with those two you'll blow my mind.

Uhhhh derp a derp Pat Robertson said so. Hahahahahaahahahahahaha. Who fucking cares?

Without going into whether you're correct or not about the regulation (and I haven't seen a replacement to Obamacare passed, so I can't speak about that one) I'll say again...
AFAIK, no one has ever been turned away from a hospital for wanting to pay for medical care, mental health or not.
I, for one, have been turned away from purchasing a weapon, security clearance, valid ID and orders in hand (and willing to pay for it).

Your analogy only seems to work if the people you were railing against were wanting to issue free guns and ammo to everyone in the country. We both know that's not happening anytime soon. And if it did, we could go the Chris Rock method.

No he's not.

Or..... as they've said in news reports..... he had multiple guns, and instead of reloading he was just dropping one and picking up another.

That's what they want you to think. The North Korean branch of ISIS is really tricky that way.

Too soon?

In the Phillipines, before going into Casinos and malls you have to pass through metal detectors. Just wait, it'll happen here.

Time will help explain, but I see no reason for the police, FBI and other law enforcement agencies to hide a murderer here. I'm confident they believe at this moment that there was one shooter.

59 dead, 500 injured, 22,000 wittinesses, hundreds of law enforcement, hundreds of medical staff and millions of onlookers. This isn't where secrets are kept.
