Dammit, maxie, you bent the needle on my sarcasm detector again...What a bummer. Man, he would have been so good for us.

Oh fuck off
You're saying that if we pay Gasol to play at the start and end of the current season, we save his salary plus luxury tax, in the middle of the season. Well, that's true only if Olshey signs no one to replace him.
Explain this to me, then what reason do we have to waive Pau now? We could have easily waited to a later date to do so.

Spurs are doing just as badly as us-- down to 5-10 and just lost to the Wiz. Wonder if they'd entertain trading Aldridge.
Which youngin would you give up for him, among Little/Simons/Collins? Can we get him just for picks and Baze?
I think they have another addition on the horizon., and it's time sensitive Quick is the same guy who laughed at the notion of Melo two days before he was signed on his podcast. Love his articles and insight, but he's not connected to our FO.Maybe quick is wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time. But if he’s not, maybe they just cut bait now instead of delaying the inevitable. I still believe they need another center, and sooner than later.
How do you figure? We're still on the hook for him, no?Luxury tax.

huh? This is legal? The report is that the Blazers have protection in his contract. If he can’t play by a certain date, they can cut him and the rest of his contract goes away.

No, I thought he was saying that Olshey learned that when you sign an injured player, you give yourself an out. I'm glad that Olshey did learn that. I was just saying that he didn't learn to be careful about signing injured players period. I can't really criticize Olshey much here though; we aren't hurt much except the absence of enough healthy big men has contributed to a very slow start.I sensed some sarcasm there. Perhaps you didn't
Said 15 games into the season.I wonder what the protections in his contract were? Maybe if he didn't play after a certain number of games it became non-guaranteed?
But was able to waive him after 15 games because he put a clause in the contract.Did he? He signed Pau.

I'm curious as to whether this could just be a move to save luxury tax. I don't know the CBA rules relative to this, but it seems that the Blazers had protections built into Pau's contract and that it's agreed that he doesn't currently comply with those protections. When they waive him, they presumably don't owe him any more on his player's contract so they save the luxury tax on that,
I'm not sure that's true. No website I've checked shows his salary as being non-guaranteed, so I'm not sure the tax is dismissed. I don't know how it was "protected"....maybe. But it might just be one of those contract clauses that gets Portland out of a portion of salary due to injury that doesn't impact their cap or tax position. IIRC I've seen a couple of those types of clauses in the past
This falls under the Exhibit-3 rule. The only way you can waive a player using this rule and not still owe him the remainder of his contract is if there was an injury prior to signing the contract that was written into the contract that if it is reinjured or there's a setback or is taking much longer than agreed upon to rehab then you can actually void the contract. As long as it was written into the contract then the Blazers get out of it.I'm not sure that's true. Holdahl thinks they’ll bring someone else in
Instead of bringing in a re-tread, why not bring in someone from the G-League. Guys like Kendrick Nunn and Christian Wood could help the team right now and they came straight from the G-League.
Bring back Rudy!
