You trade for a centerpiece center; then you gotta get rid of Leonard. He would rot on the bench.
I think you're overstating it. Not only would Leonard get available minutes at backup center, but Sanders also could slide to the PF spot as well, and Leonard and Sanders could share the frontcourt (considering we know that Leonard has the ability to play outside the key). In fact, that might be a very effective situation for Sanders defensively, with Leonard being the primary lane-clogger, and Sanders freed up to offer help defense as necessary.
It would not be untenable to think that Sanders and our starting PF (Hickson? Milsap?) could each get 34 mpg, while Leonard gets the other 28.
