Aldridge speaks out again about wanting a real center

Lee played Center in New York and the league has changed. How many true centers are even dominating the game right now?

Hickson plays center too, but that doesn't mean he is one.

The center position has really gone away, but like LA said, most champions have had one

How about Bill Lambeer, Tommy Heinsohn, Dave DeBusschere, Paul Arizin, Bill Walton, Neil Johnston, Jack Twyman, Billy Cunningham, Dave Cowens, Jerry Lucas, Dolph Schayes, and Bob Pettit.

Great list, even some centers on there. How many are still alive? You said it yourself, Mags, the game has changed

Then why give two shits about getting a center then? Maybe we should just concentrate on getting talent; regardless if the kid is white U.S. born or not. I would be ecstatic if we somehow got LOve and still had ALdridge. I would be enamored if we have Lee right now. I would go goo goo if we have JJ Reddick coming off the bench. All white U.S. born players that would help us now.

As would I. I would be elated to have any of them The list goes on to.

That's as far as it goes, but it does go on

Except for Brook Lopez, yes, they do. You guys are right. Let's keep drafting them every year until we find #7 in the long line of very good American born white centers in the 52 years of the league

Red Herring alert!

So, how about you quote where one freak'n person said anything remotely resembling that tripe. (I don't think my list went back beyond 1970, so 42-3 years, not 52.)

Get a f'ing grip man. I'm not even disagreeing with you, except that you make it sound like there were no good WAC's. There were a few that I could think of. That doesn't mean that I think there were lots of them. It doesn't mean that anyone thinks we should draft crappy center prospects just because they are white and American.

But, trust me, if Leonard turns out to be good, you'll hear about that for longer than you've been hearing "Deal coming soon."

Go Blazers

You wouldnt take kosta koufos, Christ kaman, Tyler hansborough, nick collison, mike miller, chase budinger, Chandler Parsons, kyle singler, Gordon Hayward, Kirk hinrich, kyle korver, Steven Blake, jimmer fredette?

So now we're just giving MM shit by naming anyone white?

I'm with you MM.

I would take Chandler Parsons in a heartbeat. Not a huge need for us unless you move Batum to SG though. Nevermind, what am I saying? We need ANYONE on the bench who can produce.

Huh? He said he wouldnt go much further than redick, lee, love and Anderson so I asked him about other good white American role players..... I see no harm in that

LaMarcus knows what he is and what he isn't. Complaining that Aldridge should play like the center he wants the Blazers to go out an acquire is like complaining Wes Matthews doesn't go to the basket like Dwayne Wade, or Lillard doesn't play defense like Gary Payton. I do believe fans would find some deficiency to complain about if Lebron James played here.

Too many ISOs that bog down the offense.

It's actually pretty fucking retarded to evaluate talent based on skin color. It's a cop out. If you really knew basketball, you wouldn't have to resort to this idiocy, you'd be able to critique the player by his actual strengths and weaknesses.

Doesn't have anything to do with not knowing basketball. People will often set themselves up with a generalization, and still leave it open to a case to case assessment. Lots of people like to say oh, Duke players all suck, or I hate shoot first PGs, or I hate soft euros, etc. It's making broad generalizations, and everyone does it.

Hickson for Splitter!

Yeah, SA wouldn't do that but looking around the rosters there aren't any bigs that would come close to what JJ is doing that would be available.

D.

M.

C.

He's available, S2!

So ... Hickson back to Sacramento ... a year after they waived him? Seems likely.

Maybe we should play Nolan Smith at center? I mean history tells us small players don't make good centers, but it's retarded to evaluate him based on height

Exceptional straw man you set up there. Almost like you got tons of practice in another forum that wasn't about basketball.

this is just plain silly. just. plain. silly.

your "white american born centers suck" nonsense already got bombed out of the water anyways

There have been a smattering of them in the last 10 years. Exception, not rule. Nothing is 100%

Three things you don't do in the lottery if you want to be a good team

1. Don't draft American born white centers

2. Don't draft players from Syracuse

3. Don't draft a player who slides a bit because of injury concerns in college

There are exceptions to all of those, but for the most part they are very solid rules to draft by
